As I sank into the luxurious leather, the blend of its rich scent and his cologne invaded my senses. His presence was a magnetic field, its pull growing stronger as he positioned himself behind me. The atmosphere crackled with unspoken tension. When his hand brushed against the desk, a ripple of electric awareness shot through me. His lean in brought his warmth closer, his breath a soft whisper against my skin, stirring a storm of goosebumps.
His intense focus magnified as I navigated through his laptop. A semblance of professionalism held my voice steady as I began, "Look here." With each accomplishment unveiled, my confidence bolstered, but the soft tremor of vulnerability lingered.
As I finished, the reality of our proximity was a jolt. Silence enveloped us, thick and charged. Each tick of the clock stretched the seconds into eternities. His voice, husky and close, sliced through the charged silence, "Face me." Panic surged. Facing the screen was one realm; facing him was an abyss I feared to traverse. My throat tightened. Was this his way of cranking up the tension? "I... I can't..." The admission was barely audible.
His voice lowered, a soft caress in the silence, "Do I make you nervous, Ms. Smith?"
With a hard swallow, I admitted, my voice a shaky whisper, "Yes."
He leaned closer, his words a soft growl, "Why?"
My mind was a whirlpool, words lost in its depths.
"I don't know," I whispered.
A beat. Two. And then, he pulled away, his tone shedding the intimacy and donning professionalism, he noted, "That's... impressive."
