LARISSA GLANCED OUT the side window as she sat there, doing her best not to shake or bounce her leg, which was a nervous tick she had discovered about herself recently. Whenever she was nervous, stressed, or scared, she would bounce her leg by the ball of her foot. She hadn’t even been the one to discover that particular quirk about herself. Kiran pointed it out to her a few weeks back after berating her for not having something trivial done the way he told her to do it. The man was insufferable in his quest to out-do his family, and she was tired of being his punching bag. When she set out to leave that morning, Kiran insisted that Hunsaker drive her, not wanting his protection to lose sight of her again.
