Chapter Two

Damon I had heard of her before but nothing prepared me for the way she moved precise, controlled and inhuman. “You do realise that you are in enemy territory right?” Theo asked as she strode beside me, “It takes a lot of guts for a wolf to walk into the Hunter Guild. Do you have a death wish?” “I am not just any wolf,” I corrected her. “I’m an Alpha.” “Cocky.” Was all she said, before silence befell us once more. I led her outside to a car that awaited us, “We will have the rest of the meeting at my office, since you very nicely pointed out how unsafe it was for me to be here at the Hunter Guild.” She harrumphed but refused to get into the car with me, smart. “I will meet you there, I have my own ride.” But before I could give her an address, she was already off. I drove back to my office in silence, already wondering how badly this decision was going to cost me. ••• The low whir of a motorcycle cut through the quiet courtyard below, sharp enough for my enhanced hearing to catch it instantly. Oddly, my heart thrummed. Was it in fear or anticipation of what Theo had to offer to me? I needed to find my son, his dissapearance gnawing at my existence. If it meant hiring a hunter that hated my very own kind to find him, then so be it. After all, there was no one better to find a wolf than a hunter born for the job. I stared out of office window like a stalker, watching Theo make her way towards the front of the building where someone had been assigned to show her in. Minutes later, she walked into my office without bothering to knock. I could waste so much time wondering how she knew where to find me because I didn’t tell her, but then this was Theo. Of course she knew where my office was. I wouldn’t be surprised if she knew where my son. “Shall we go on then?” She asked, my file in her hands. Her hair had been tied into a bun for the ride, a few brown curls escaping the rubber and falling around her face. Theo stubbornly pushed them away. “Sure,” I gave her a tentative smile, as I studied her. She didn’t crack, not even a little which I found impressive. My presence alone was enough to make anyone cower, but not Theo. I haven’t found how to crack her. Yet. Theo scanned the contents of the file briefly before turning to me. When her green eyes met mine, something slammed into my chest so hard it nearly stole my breathe. I quickly recovered before she realized anything. “So I am to find your son, Logan, is that so?” She asked, a little disinterest in her tone. I nodded and she carried on, “And you think he was kidnapped by…Lyra?” “Lyra is my ex-mate,” I began, to which Theo shot me a look. She said, “I didn’t know wolves could change mates, or be ex mates.” “She wasn’t my actual mate, it was more a marriage of convenience.” I said, pushing the bitterness that always conjured when I thought of my life then aside, this was about my son. “Things didn’t…end well so to say, and I think she has my son.” “How old is Logan?” “He’s 14 now.” “Barely a kid then.” Theo said. “It’s hardly kidnapping when his mother takes a 14 year old.” I felt anger brewing inside me, “It is kidnapping if he’s been missing since he was a child, since she ran away from the pack and took him with her. And all I know about them is that they have been together, running away whenever my men are close to getting him back. And now that he is almost of age…I need him back here with me.” Silence befell and I realized I might have said too much, because in truth I didn’t trust her. She was a Hunter. I would always have to watch my back with her, and I thought she felt a single empathy towards me over my sons dissapearance. To my surprise, her eyes softened just a little bit, “you need me because she is less likely to think I will be after her.” I nodded, “And we need to be as discreet as possible if we want to pull this off.” Theo said nothing, her head angled to the side as though deep in thoughts. Her face betrayed nothing else. Her expresssion shifted just for a heartbeat. Then the glass exploded. The office windows imploded in a violent crash, shards screaming through the air as alarms erupted through the building. Insticts screamed one thing in my mind. We were under attack.
