Pregnant

586 Words
Amara stared at Stefania, her horror reflected in the depths of her ocean-green eyes. The world around her seemed to slow, the sounds of the mansion fading into a distant hum. **Pregnant?** The very idea was impossible, unimaginable. Bryan could never betray her like this. He loved her—didn’t he? Olivia’s voice broke through the fog in Amara’s mind, each word like a hammer striking her heart. "It’s been five years since you’ve been gone, Amara. My son is also a man. He has physical needs. So, he moved on." The room spun violently around her, and Amara felt her knees buckle. She reached out, grabbing the edge of a nearby table for support, her entire body trembling uncontrollably. The life she had envisioned, the dreams she had held onto for so long, were shattering before her eyes, crumbling into nothing. **What is going on? How did this happen?** The questions swirled in her mind, but there were no answers, only the crushing weight of betrayal and loss. Amara’s breath came in short, ragged gasps as she tried to make sense of the nightmare unfolding before her, but the more she tried, the more everything slipped away, leaving her drowning in a sea of despair. She looked around desperately, hoping to find something, someone, to tell her this wasn’t real. But all she saw were the cold, unsympathetic faces of Olivia and Stefania, the walls of the mansion closing in on her like a cage. Everything she had believed in, everything she had held dear, was gone, and she was left with nothing but the wreckage of her shattered dreams. Amara recoiled as if she had been slapped, her heart pounding so hard she thought it might burst from her chest. Her gaze locked onto Stefania’s, eyes wide with horror and disbelief. This couldn’t be happening. Bryan would never betray me. He loves me. He’s always loved me. The room seemed to spin around her, the once-solid ground beneath her feet turning to quicksand. Every breath she took felt like a struggle, her entire body shaking as she fought to stay upright. How could this be true? The words, the reality of it all, were too much to bear. Olivia’s voice cut through her spiraling thoughts, cold and devoid of any sympathy. "Yes, Amara. It’s been five years since. My son has physical needs. So he moved on." The world seemed to tilt on its axis, and Amara’s vision blurred as tears welled up in her eyes. Her mind raced, trying to make sense of it all, but it was like trying to grasp smoke. Five years... That time she had spent working so hard, building a future for them, had it all been for nothing? How could Bryan move on? Her knees buckled, and she reached out blindly, her hand brushing against the cold marble of the nearest column as she tried to steady herself. The walls of the mansion, once her sanctuary, now felt like they were closing in, suffocating her. She looked at Olivia, her vision swimming, and then back at Stefania, whose eyes were alight with malicious satisfaction. Amara’s body trembled uncontrollably, her entire world crashing down around her as the truth set in, a truth she was not prepared to face. What is going on? How did this happen? Everything she had believed in, everything she had held onto during those long years apart, was unraveling before her eyes, leaving her lost in a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from.
