Let her die

670 Words
The sky darkened ominously, and the first drops of rain began to fall, quickly turning into a torrential downpour. Thunder rumbled across the sky, and lightning flashed, illuminating the mansion’s grand exterior for brief, blinding moments. Amara stood rooted to the spot, her heart racing with a mix of fear and determination. The storm was fierce, but it couldn’t compare to the tempest inside her. As the rain soaked through her clothes, chilling her to the bone, Amara’s body began to tremble uncontrollably. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to ward off the cold, but her eyes remained fixed on the mansion. Each clap of thunder made her flinch, but she didn’t move. She couldn’t. The thought of leaving without answers was more terrifying than any storm. Inside the mansion, Stefania paced the floor, her anxiety growing with each passing minute. She could hear the storm raging outside, the sound of rain pounding against the windows like relentless drumming in her ears. Her nerves were frayed, her earlier confidence slipping away. “Mrs. Johnson,” Stefania whispered, her voice betraying her fear, “what will happen? She’s not leaving.” Olivia stood by the window, watching Amara through the rain-streaked glass. Her jaw tightened as she saw Amara’s drenched figure standing alone in the storm. The sight of Amara’s stubbornness, so reminiscent of her father, Jason Clarke, stirred something unsettling within her. Jason had been just as unyielding, just as defiant. And now his daughter stood there, refusing to be broken. “Let her stay outside and die,” Olivia spat, her voice cold and resolute, though there was a flicker of something deeper beneath the surface—perhaps guilt, or even fear of what she was about to do. She turned away from the window, unwilling to watch any longer, unwilling to let Amara’s defiance weaken her resolve. Stefania’s eyes widened in shock at Olivia’s words. “But… what if Bryan finds out?” she stammered, her fear intensifying. “What if he—” “Bryan is not here,” Olivia cut her off sharply, her eyes narrowing as she spoke. “And he won’t be back for days. By the time he returns, it will be too late for Amara to cause any trouble. She’ll be gone. One way or another.” The storm raged on outside, the thunder echoing through the halls of the mansion as if nature itself was voicing its disapproval. Olivia’s words hung in the air, cold and final, as Stefania looked at her with wide, anxious eyes. Outside, Amara stood with her eyes closed, her body shivering violently as the rain pelted down, soaking her to the core. Her hair clung to her face, her clothes heavy with water, but she didn’t care. She couldn’t leave. Not like this. Not without knowing why her world had been torn apart. Each clap of thunder made her heart jump, but it also fueled her determination. She was scared—terrified, even—but she wouldn’t be driven away. She wouldn’t give up, no matter how long it took. Inside, Olivia knew that time was running out. The storm might do the job, but the longer Amara remained, the greater the risk that someone would see her—someone who might intervene. Someone who might question why a young woman was left to die in the cold. But Olivia couldn’t afford to care. Not now. Not when everything was at stake. With a final, cold glance out the window, she turned to Stefania. “Let’s go. There’s nothing more to be done.” Stefania hesitated, looking once more toward the door, where Amara remained outside in the storm. Fear gnawed at her, but she nodded and followed Olivia out of the room. Outside, Amara stood alone against the fury of the storm, her resolve as fierce as the lightning that split the sky. She wouldn’t leave. Not until she had the answers she needed. Not until she saw Bryan, no matter what it took.
