KNOX Grayson put the expanded archive report on my kitchen table on a Thursday morning in the second week of December, before Riley was up and before the morning had properly committed to itself. He'd been building it since October. He'd told me it was almost ready three separate times, which with Grayson meant different things on each occasion — the first time meant he was beginning to see the shape of it, the second time meant he was in final verification, and the third time, which came at nine o'clock Wednesday evening via text, meant it was done and he was deciding how to deliver it.
