The heavy rain beat down on Davina as she ran inside the old abandoned church on the outskirts of town, she was been chased by something or rather someone.
Davina was filled with uncertainty, she knew she was being chased but couldn’t tell what it was. She could hardly breathe when she entered the church, it was her first time running as she had in her entire life. She scrunched her nose at the dusty air inside the church as she peered around for a hiding place.
She quickly went hiding in between the row of chairs in the church, hoping that whatever was chasing her at the moment wouldn't find her.
Just moments after she'd hidden herself away the door to the church slammed open. The forceful opening of the door brought with it a gust of wind that blew in more dust as well as dried leaves from outside the church, causing the air inside the church to be even more dusty. Davina stifled a gasp as she heard movements getting closer to her. The terror she felt was so intense that it seemed to seep down into her stomach, she could feel it settle right in her guts. Her mind raced and her hand clasped tightly on her lips prevented the sobs she felt wracking her body to shred through the nights air as she listened to the chilling sounds of something approaching her hiding place.
Davina quirked her head to the side, straining her ears, hoping to catch sound of any movement, to her surprise there was none, the church had gone silent. The movement that filled her with dread has suddenly stopped, as sudden as it had started in the first place. There was no movement, but Davina was aware that she wasn’t the only one in the church.
Then she heard a strange sound fill the church, it was a loud, grating sound. She could hear the sound of things cracking and snapping together, which made her cover her mouth to stop herself from making any sudden noise. It would all be over soon, that was what she wished for.
“I don’t think she is here,” someone said while looking around the church.
“Oh, she is. I can smell her and hear her heartbeat”
Davina was so scared to death, she had just witnessed the most terrifying thing in her twenty-two years of life and she was in danger because of it.
“Davina, I know you are here, just come out and don’t make things worse for us, pretty please,” she heard one of the voices say.
She shook her head, and steeled herself, trying so hard to be quiet, one thing she knows for sure is those things aren’t human, they talk like one, and act like one but they are different during the full moon. When it is a full moon, they become the most fearsome mystical beings. Werewolves.
“Doing this will only make it more difficult for the both of us, love,” his footsteps were getting closer to her, while she whimpered in silence.
Suddenly all movement stopped and everything stood still in silence, no one moved or said a thing. 'Are they gone?' Was Davina's thought.
“Found you, my mate,” his voice said behind her
Davina slowly turned to her back and he was right there with a smirk on his face, her stepbrother, the Alpha of the clan, and most importantly her mate.
“Ah!!!!!!!!”
A week before that night…
Davina pov
The waning sunlight prevented me from enjoying the vista that rolled by, which was a waste. It had been long since I had been in New Orleans, and I would have loved to see the view of the place.
“Don’t try so hard, you can always come back after the funeral,” Michael, my mom’s driver who came to pick me up from the airport said while I smiled awkwardly at him and continued peering outside.
He didn’t bother stopping me this time and focused on the road instead.
“Are you ok though? I heard he was like a real dad to you” I thought he was going to shut up and just drive, but he seems to be chatty and that is something I wasn't in the headspace to do.
Besides I never liked talking to people I’m not close with, it had been a habit since I was young. And it grew more when my mom decided to marry another man, not that I hated him.
Steve was a good man, and he tried to be there for me any chance he had, the problem was his children who hated me with passion but not my mom. They said little to me and ignored me like I didn’t exist, so it became a habit to keep to myself. It didn't take long before I had to leave for Los Angeles to stay with my aunt.
Why am I back? Because unfortunately, Steve is dead.
I said nothing to the driver's question, plunging the car into silence and before I knew it we were at the Marshall’s estate. “Welcome back home,” Michael said as he drove in.
It is a big estate, with multiple houses on it. I also find it weird that Steve allows this many people to live on his land. The way the estate was structured I would think it was a communal property like a village or a small town but steve was just a generous man after all.
Michael stopped the car and rushed out of the car to open the door for me, I smiled at him anxious and he helped with my luggage too.
I looked at the big house in front of me, it was an old styled mansion, I knew it has been around for a long time, more than I had been alive, yet it still looked the same as the first time I saw it. The big door to the house suddenly opened and my mother ran out to hug me.
"Oh my sweet Davina,” she uttered pulling me into a tight hug squeezing the hell out of me. "I can’t believe you are here” she said and pulled away from me, she held my hands as she stared at me.
“You look different,” Mom commented while I scoffed.
“Says the woman that changes her hair color with every season. I’m sorry about what happened to Steve, are you ok?” I asked with concerns, my mom and I might've drifted apart from each other after her marriage, but it doesn’t change how much I care for her.
“No, but I will be fine now that you are here. Let’s go inside,” She held my hand and took me in while Michael followed with my bags.
I had planned on only staying for two weeks before I go back to L.A, but my mother insisted on me packing more stuff, I found it weird since I’m not going to be staying for the long term. But I know my mom, she can go out multiple times with each outing with it's own outfit and she always likes it if the person she was with to match her vibes.
It can be stressful but also fun. We entered the house, and I was wowed by the interiors. The house used to look so old and lifeless, too dull but now it is different. There is a big hallway that leads away from the front door and connects the many rooms in the house. The living room was empty the last time I was here, but not anymore. It had fairly new and tasteful furnitures and to the side of the room right behind the window was a piano. The glowing light from the chandelier made it even nicer. I could see that my mom has done well with the place, yet the old haunted house vibe still hung on the mansion.
She took my hand and directed me to the couch where we sat. "Do you like it?”
“Yes, I love what you have done with the place. It is beautiful,” I said while she giggled and flicked her fake blonde hair proudly.
“I’m glad you like it, wait till you see your room,” She smiled excitedly and it made me more delighted. It is good to see her smiling again, she looks more prettier when she does.
I used to hate my mom, especially after she married Steve. In my youthful stupidity I questioned why she had to be with Steve, I wondered if I wasn’t enough to make her happy, and why she allowed me to go live with my aunt because his kids didn’t get along with me, I never understand it till now but I realized the hatred was gone, maybe this time I can convince her to come with me.
“So tell me about school? Any boyfriend or girlfriend?” Mom asked the last part less exuberantly and with more hesitation.
"Mom!” I exclaimed embarrassed.
“What? You've been gone a while, I want to know about your life so badly.”
I was about to talk when the door suddenly opened and the last people I wanted to see entered the house.
Steve’s Children… Theo, Jamie, Finn, and Aubrey, I gulped nervously on my seat, my mom let go of my hand and ran to them.
"Where have you all been? I told you not to take Aubrey along, look how messy her beautiful hair is,” she said removing the dirt from Aubrey's hair.
"I’m sorry Mom, I'll be more careful. I was just so excited to finally turn….” She halted and they stared at me like I was an intruder in their house.
And to be honest, I was angry too. Where did she find the gall to call my mom hers', and why are they acting like they're real mother and daughter? I thought I couldn’t be replaced but I guess I was just being delusional.
“Oh, she is here, nice to meet you. I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Aubrey your sister,” She moved toward but a loud voice stopped her which had me startled.
“Don’t f*****g touch her! I want none of you near her,” Theo said while I shake in fear and a bit of excitement.
He was staring at me, his gaze so intense and my heart was beating fast, not only my heart, but even part of me was acting so strangely.
He looks so confused too, hesitant to approach me and we just kept staring at each other.
It felt like it was just me and him in the house, no one else. And to be honest, I wanted him to approach me, it felt right and so wrong at the same time.
I want to be touched by him and if possible I want to do more than that.
It seems like I’m sexually attracted to my step-brother...
Ok, what the hell is going on with me?
