Theo pov;
As a werewolf, it is said that one can recognize their mate from a mile away. I thought it was a myth, just a story told to us as children not until I found myself inexplicably drawn in by a singular force, a lone thought that pushed me to walk eagerly towards our house. I felt more compelled than ever to get there as quickly as possible.
I caught a whiff of her scent, a beautiful yet intoxicating aroma that quickened my heartbeat as I drew nearer to its source. Her smell was soft, sweet, and yet dangerously captivating.
My wolf was struggling to contain himself, as something was pulling him closer, but we had no idea what-or rather, who.
Each step I took felt excruciating, the need to get closer becoming almost unbearable.
"Theo everything alright? You're walking too fast," Aubrey, my little sister said, her voice sifting through to my thoughts as she caught up with me. We had just returned from the woods, where I had been teaching her along with my two younger brothers Jamie and Finn how to control her newfound werewolf abilities after her first transformation the previous night.
"I can hardly keep up with you, what's wrong?" Jamie, my younger brother, inquired. I couldn't find the words to respond; all I knew was that I needed to get to the house.
I found myself wondering if he could sense the intoxicating scent that was driving me mad. But I couldn't tell if he was aware of it. Although everyone was focused on me, my attention was fixed on the figure inside the house.
"You're not going to speak?" Jamie probed, but I remained silent.
"Just leave him be. He will speak when he's ready," Finn barked from behind us as Aubrey opened the door and we all entered.
A whirlwind of emotions hit me as I saw her – guilt, relief, admiration, happiness, and most significantly, possessiveness. The drive, powerful and unwavering, a profound and at the same time irritable feeling to have her to myself and only myself no one else.
It had been years since I last saw her, and I never maintained contact because I thought it was for the best. Her mother became part of our family through marriage to my dad, but I believed she was different.
She had her own life to lead – after all, she is human. “Foolish," my wolf growled within, and I concurred.
It was foolish. She had been close by all this time, and I had let her slip away. But that's in the past now. She's home, with me, with us.
She stood as we entered, and her eyes blazed upon seeing her mom with my sister. It was evident she wasn't pleased with the situation.
Davina appeared so different from the seventeen-year-old that I knew before. Her body had matured, and her face had lost its teenage features. Yet she still looked innocent and beautiful. Her bangs covered her eyebrows, but it didn't detract me from seeing how beautiful her face was.
Her golden-brown hair matched her brown eyes, and her lips, they were such plump delight, full and rosy, calling me to partake in their sweet pleasure. I wondered if her lips has always been this attractive. She had on a plain t-shirt that was probably two sizes too big for her and a pair of jeans but the clothes didn't hide her curves.
She is pretty, and that made my wolf proud at the same time crazy. I want to touch her, feel her lips on mine, worship every part of her body.
Claim her just like I will, but I wanted to do it right this moment. I need her, f**k I never knew how empty I felt until I found her. It isn't a want, it is a need because if I don't, it feels like I would lose my mind, like it would be the end of me.
Was this what Dad meant when he said you will know when you find your mate? I feel delightful and at the same time afraid.
Why is she not looking at me? What should I do if she finds me weird? Will she accept me like I want her? My wolf doesn't care, he found her, that is all that matters, but humans are complex creatures.
Or rather pretends to do, it is strange I need her but the fear of her rejecting me hurts so much that it makes it hard for me to breathe.
Does one mate have that much power over the other? But why do I get the feeling she doesn't feel the same? Aubrey tried to move closer to her but I had to stop her, no one touches my mate.
“Don’t f*****g touch her, I want none of you near her!“ I threatened and she flinched back while everyone else stared at me.
Davina's attention was now on me, but I couldn't read her, is she scared or surprised, it was so confusing.
I want to be near her, we are too far apart. I could sense my wolf trying to take over. He wants to be felt by her too, we need it.
“Is everything ok?” Linda asked but I couldn't find any response within me than to growl, my mate was finally in front of me.
My eyes were burning, my muscles grew thicker, and I was about to change, will she sees us for what we are, she will accept us, right?
Even if she doesn't, she is stuck here forever.
Jamie suddenly moves in front of me, which halt my transformation and made me pissed.
“Are you going to transform in front of her, are you crazy?” Jamie whispered in my ear.
I want to attack him not because of his words but because he was blocking me from seeing what is mine.
“She is mine, get out of the way,” I warned but the bastard didn't move an inch.
“I know, but Theo you are being irrational. If you transform in front of her, your chance of being with her is slim, if she is your mate then her body will be in heat for yours too. But what about her heart? Do you want your relationship with your mate to be just like our father and mother? Do you want that?”
He was right, it is dreadful thinking about it, but my wolf doesn't care. He wants her right this moment, and it is hard to control him especially when I want the same thing.
“Don't give in to your wolf,” Jamie pleaded.
I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, I opened it and I didn't bother looking at her before I left the house.
Both Jamie and Finn followed me outside. “Is someone going to explain what just happened to me?” my youngest brother Finn asked.
“Our Alpha found his mate,” Jamie answered while Finn stopped on his track and we did the same.
“That girl, that weird nerdy-” Finn didn't finish his words after noticing the look on my face. He would be dead by now if he wasn't my brother.
“I mean the drop dead gorgeous is our Alpha's mate,” he smiled at me while I rolled my eyes and we started walking again.
“But you are still aware that she is Linda's daughter which practically makes her our sister,” he blurted out like I didn't know that.
“Step-sister and I don’t care. Tell every wolf in here, not to come one meter near her. She is either with her mother or me,” I ordered while Jamie nodded and Finn shook his head at me.
“Males or females?” Jamie asked
“Both,” I answered, I didn't want to smell another wolf around her, even my siblings.
“We'll do that, but we have more alarming matters to attend to. Three werewolves disappeared two days ago, we have been searching for them but have nothing. Not even a clue on what could have happened to them”
“Could it be the works of other packs?” I asked, switching to Alpha mode. Letting my duties as Alpha come to the fore made for a not so effective distraction but it allowed me to reduce the intensity of Davina's presence, somewhat.
“That was what I thought, but there are no traces. And we will surely know if other wolves are in our territory,” Jamie responded and sighed.
“I will look into it and tell the pack members affected that their families are missing, but don't say anything to other members, their alpha died two weeks ago. I don't want them to worry,” I said and Jamie and Finn nodded in agreement.
I looked at the house one more time, knowing that my mate was inside, and just a few steps away was tempting. But I let her rest for today because this will be the last time we will be apart.
