Almost as soon as I woke up today I was on autopilot. I tossed and turned for five hours instead of getting any real sleep so I was sleep deprived in pain and hungry. I missed breakfast so I would make it to the college and have my stuff in my dorm before orientation started at eleven. Dad and Kaminae came along with me to help me unload my stuff and get it in my dorm quicker. Dad made sure to make the necessary calls before they tagged along with me; which meant that he also had to inform the clan as to why this development occurred so sudden and unexpectedly. That just means that this clan now knows too; making it three whole clans. I love my lack of privacy. That's sarcasm by the way. I hate not having a moment of peace for myself. It's almost like no one has realized that i'm not a defenseless child anymore.
I sighed as we finally fit everything into my dorm and I was giving them final hugs before they left. I relaxed in my dorm until it was time for me to go to the freshman orientation. I left a little early so I wouldn't have to worry about being late. My plan would have worked if I didn't stumble on an unfair fight in the parking lot just outside of the auditorium. It looked like at least ten to one so without even thinking; I ran over to assist. I grabbed two people by the back of their shirts and pulled them away from the man in the middle.
"That's just cowardly." I remarked backing up to stand back to back with the man. "ten on one, really guys?"
The group rushed us and I sent an elbow into one mans throat while kicking another in the stomach. They started to circle us waiting for an opening to attack again. I noticed the other two men getting dragged away. While I was distracted one of the remaining men rushed me and landed a hard hit to my shoulder. I ignored the pain and swung back at him breaking his nose.
"Hey, this doesn't concern you." A man said walking up in between two men standing directly in front of me.
"Like I said; ten to one is just cowardly." I scoffed at him. "As long as you have ten he has two."
"Get rid of them." The man said backing up again and waving his hand.
Then we both got into defensive stances standing back to back still. None of us moved for a few seconds before they all charged at us. We fought them off as well as we could for a few minutes before the guy I was helping grabbed my arm and switched places with me. Switching sides put me in front of the smaller thugs. I'm sure he did that on purpose. We continued to hold our own against the thugs, but I was getting winded, and my movements were getting sluggish. This fight needed to end soon or it wasn't going to end well for me. I glanced around me looking for a way out, but there wasn't one. I did however get an idea. I called to the man and jumped at him; he caught me effortlessly. He turned and I kicked two of the thugs knocking them to the ground. I was placed back on my feet and we commenced fighting again. I started to notice that the thugs were starting to retreat as we beat them. I linked our arms and leaned back, he caught the hint and pulled me so that I rolled over his back. As my feet hit the ground I did a back flip and kicked a thug square in the chest.
"Hey!" I heard making me look towards the man who seems to be in control of the thugs. A thug close to me managed to sneak up behind me and grab a hold of me. I gasped as what felt like a knife was placed against my throat. I froze knowing that if I tried to hit him I could cut my own throat. "Leave him, he's not our target." The man's grip loosened and he eventually let me go completely with a hard shove towards the man I was helping. "We don't need innocent blood on our hands, but if you step in again I won't hesitate."
"Then I guess he better not try again." I mumbled to myself. The men all piled into a white delivery van that I hadn't even noticed until it started to pull away. I hunched over placing my hand on my knee and the other on my side. Because once the adrenaline started to wear off I felt all of the pain in my body. My ribs being the main source.
"Are you okay?" The man asked coming to stand in front of me. "I'm Sanjiro, Kai Sanjiro."
I gasped and stood up straight facing him. "Kurosaki, Hatchiko Kurosaki." I said quietly looking at my feet.
"You're Kurosaki?" He asked looking me over. "You stated college here this semester, right?"
"Yes." I answered quickly. "I'm sorry for stepping in. I'm sure you could have handled that on your own. I just saw an unfair fight and had to help. I didn't even think."I stated looking anywhere but at him."I just jumped in. I'm sorry. I hope my interference doesn't cause you any trouble." I gasped and looked at my hands as I started picking at my fingers because I realized the damage that I may have just caused. "I'll take all responsibility for any backlash if people find out. I know how gossip and rumors-"
"Hey, hey, calm down." He chuckled leaning forward to try and get me look at him. "You're rambling. It's okay." Kai said grabbing my chin to make me look at him. "Didn't you get seriously injured over the weekend?" I just held up my arm with the cast on it. "Why did you jump into a random one sided fight then?"
"Because it was one sided." I stated like it should have been obvious. "I know that with the duel this weekend everyone thinks that I'm some violent troublemaker, but I'm not." I sighed and looked down again. "Those two days were the only times I'd ever actually used any of my training."
"Well, you just held your own pretty well against about twenty people." He remarked. "That's pretty impressive when you have no hands on experience." He patted my shoulder making me wince. "Are you sure that you're okay?"
"Asshole landed a lucky punch." I grumbled. "Yeah, i'm fine." I added. "I should get going or I'm going to be late to my orientation." I said glancing at my watch.
"You don't need to worry about that; just tell them you were with me if they say anything." He smiled and handed me a card with his info on it. "Proof." I took the card and left with a wave. "Meet me by the gazebo after you're orientation is over." He called out to me.
I responded with a wave to show I heard him as I picked up my pace. I just found my seat when the dean came on stage to start. To say it was all a waste of time would be putting it lightly; all that he had to say was either basic common sense or already covered in the welcome packages we received upon arrival. That was by far the most pointless hour I've ever spent at a college. I waited so that I was one of the last people out of the auditorium so I had significantly less of a chance of bumping into anyone.
I followed the map and was almost to the courtyard with the gazebo when I heard someone calling out that their brakes weren't working. I turned and looked around to see where the shouts were coming from. I found the source and noticed that there were two women on the path; directly in the path of the bike. Without thinking I took off running in their direction. The older looking of the two managed to get out of the way, but when she tried to pull the other woman with her; all she ended up doing was pulling her down. Just as she stood up I grabbed her and pulled her to the side. Unfortunately, in the process of pulling her with me our feet got tangled and we started to fall. I managed to turn us so that I hit the ground instead of her. In hind sight that wasn't a good idea, but at the same time me landing on her would have caused a lot of damage to her. I may be small, but I am pure muscle because of the amount of training that I do. Muscle weighs more than fat does, and because of my training I don't have any fat; just muscle. We rolled a few times and came to a stop with me on top of her at the edge of the path. I sighed as I saw the bike had made it past us without hitting either of us. I turned to look down at the woman under me and only just then realized how close we were.
"Are you okay?" I asked her once I caught my breath. She just looked at me like she had no idea that I had even said anything. "Are you okay?" I asked again.
"Yeah." She stuttered out. I quickly stood up then and helped her up as well. "You're sure you're okay?" I asked as the other woman walked over to us and I noticed Kai was with her.
"Nala." I heard her call out looking at her daughter. She just kept staring at me. "Nala!" She called louder finally getting her attention. "Are you okay?"
"Thanks to-"
"Kurosaki." I stated. "Hatchiko Kurosaki."
"Well, Hatchiko, You just saved my daughter." She stated looking between the two of us. This is Liera! "You have to let me repay you somehow."
"I couldn't possibly." I said holding my hands up.
"He also helped me with some thugs in the parking lot earlier." Kai added.
"Oh, so you've helped both of my kids today?" She asked surprised. "Then you have to let me treat you to dinner as repayment."
"I really must decline." I stated looking down at my feet. "My parents would be disappointed in me for allowing you to repay me."
"You have already denied her request once today." Kai pointed out from next to me. "You wouldn't want to offend her by declining her offer again, would you?"
"No, but I was raised to not expect rewards for doing the right thing." I answered. "I can't except this offer."
"What if I invited you to dinner as my friend instead?" He asked putting his arm around my neck. I looked at him like he had sprouted a second head. What! He wants to be friends with me? Why? We only just met today. We know of each other, but we don't actually know anything about each other. What if this is some type of ploy?
"I don't know." I answered after i thought about it for a few seconds. I don't want to go with them in case I need my security team since they aren't here yet. "It doesn't feel right."
"I'm pretty sure that my sister would be more than happy for you to join us." He said like that was supposed to be a convincing point. He looked at me and smiled. I glanced at her and she smiled at me.
"Fine." I sighed. "I don't know where anything is though."
"Don't worry about that." Nala chimed in. "I'm pretty sure we have enough room for you."
At this I felt an intense panic hit me. I unconsciously stepped away from them. My breathing became quick and shallow. I was trying to come up with any excuse that I could to get away from them before I had a full on panic attack.
"I need to get back to my dorm." I lied. "I need a shower if i'm going to join you for dinner."
"I'll meet you in the parking lot later." Kai said giving me a suspicious look.
I just nodded and walked away. Once I got far enough away from them that I couldn't hear them anymore I could finally feel myself start to relax. I don't want to go to this dinner tonight, but I've already agreed so I don't think that I have much of a choice now. I sighed and immediately regretted it. The pain that I was feeling from my broken ribs has now spread to cover a fair portion of my back as well. That was really dumb and I'm definitely going to feel it in the morning. I'm just glad that this first week of school is supposed to be easy since classes don't actually start until next Monday. These first two weeks are for the school fair and getting moved into our dorms. I finally got to my dorm and sighed as I sat on the bed in my room. None of my other roommates have arrived yet. There's three more rooms so I'm hoping that the three others aren't going to be complete assholes. If they are; this is going to be a long year.
I decided to lay down for a quick nap before I take my shower. I made sure to set a few alarms so that I didn't over sleep. It took me a few minutes to fall asleep, but once I did it was a restless sleep. I couldn't seem to find a comfortable position to lay in. When I woke up I realized that going to bed wasn't a good idea at all. I was so sore and stiff when I woke up that I just wanted to stay in bed. I let out a pained groan when I sat up followed by a quick curse. I just hoped that my roommates hadn't arrived yet. It'd be much harder to hide my injuries if I spend any real amount of time with them. Right now; that means introductions if they are here; unless my roommates are going to be my security team. I sighed and slowly opened my door to make sure that it didn't make any noise in case there was anyone else here. I was glad that there wasn't anyone else here yet.
I made my way to the shower area as quickly and as quietly as I could. I was hoping to avoid running into anyone. To be honest I just wanted to shower and go back to sleep. I couldn't do that though because I had stupidly agreed to go already. I didn't have my hands wrapped up when I jumped into that fight, and my knuckles were screaming at me now because of it. I quickly washed up and got dressed before heading back to my room. I had just thrown my clothes in the small basket next to my bed when I heard the door open and heard voices faintly talking. I sighed knowing that I couldn't get past them without introducing myself. I grabbed my phone, keys and wallet before making my presence known by opening my door.
I saw two boys just standing in the center of the room looking around. I cleared my throat making the slightly shorter one jump and turn to face me. He nudged the other boy and he turned around too.
"Who are you?" He asked sizing me up.
"Kurosaki, Hatchiko Kurosaki." I said pointing to the label on the door behind me. "You are?"
"I'm Nobu and this is Nori we are the Natsumi twins" The smaller one, Nobu, answered.
"I don't wish to be rude, but i'm on my way out." I stated. "Your rooms are the two on the right." I pointed. "Maybe we can get better acquainted when I return." I gave them a wave and headed to the door.
"Where could the bastard son of Lotus clan possibly have to go on his first day in our territory?" Nori asked making me freeze half expecting him to pick a fight.
"Nori!" Nobu whisper shouted at him. "That's rude!"
"He's unwelcome in our territory." Was his simple response.
"Dinner." I stated trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice. "With Kai, Nala, and Liera." I added I couldn't help but smirk at the falter in his steps when I mentioned Kai. "I'm not allowed anywhere in the territory except the campus unless i'm accompanied by a member of your clan, so I don't think you'll have to worry about me causing trouble." I snapped. "Besides if you knew anything about me you'd know i'm not a social person."
"If you aren't a social person then why are you going to dinner with the boss' family without him." Nori demanded.
"I didn't get a choice." I stated opening the door. "I don't know if he's going to be there or not." I added glaring at the partly opened door. "You wouldn't want to be the reason i'm late would you?" I asked. "Oh, and don't worry this can stay between us, I'm not as much of a problem as everyone thinks I am."
At that I left closing the door behind me. I can tell that this is going to be a fun college experience for me. I sighed again as I headed out towards the parking lot. I made it out to my car with no problems, but I did notice that a lot of people were watching me. It made me immediately feel exponentially more uncomfortable than I had during the conversation with Nori.
"This is yours?" I heard from behind me making me jump.
"Kai." I greeted when I turned around. "Yes, this is mine." I stated. "I'm going to call my dad to come get it so nothing happens to it." I stated glancing around the parking lot.
"Why?" He asked.
"I'm not exactly welcomed here." I stated. "I'm not leaving this here after my dad and brothers spent years restoring it for me just so it can get ruined."
"Why do you think something's going to happen to it?" He asked like it wasn't obvious.
"Take a look around us." I stated. He looked around and I heard him sigh. "See what I mean?" I asked.
"Yeah, i'll get this sorted out." He said putting his arm across my shoulders. "Let's go." He turned me towards a black Expedition. "Don't worry i'll have this delivered back to your house tonight."
"You don't have to do that." I stated looking back at it.
"Don't worry about it." He stated. "It's no trouble at all."
I sighed. "If you insist I need to get my bag and books out of it before you send it back."
"We can wait go ahead." He said dropping his arm.
I walked over to the car an grabbed most of my stuff that I needed for classes. I had a couple books left that i couldn't lift. He was talking to two of his men and he gestured towards me, or well, my car. They nodded and he pulled out his phone and made a quick call before walking up to me.
"Do you have everything you need out of there?" He asked. "My men are ready to take it to the border."
"I have a couple more books on my seat that I can't carry." I answered.
"I'll grab them for you." He stated holding his hand out for the keys. "Go ahead and take those back to your dorm, i'll be right behind you."
"Thank you." I answered him as I headed towards my dorm building again.
It didn't take him long to catch up to me. By the time that we had reached my dorm room we were walking side by side. I stopped outside the door which earned me a confused look from him. I warned him that two of my roommates had arrived before. When we walked in they were having a loud and quite extensive argument between themselves. I just made my way across the room towards my door completely ignoring what they were saying. I couldn't care less about their opinions towards me. Their opinions aren't much different than anyone else around here. I can guess what the argument is about. I quickly dropped my bag and books off on my bed and went back out to the main room to see the both of them sitting on the small couch in the main room with Kai standing in front of them with his arms crossed. I came over and took the two books from him that he had carried in for me before going back to my room. When I walked back out again they were still sat the same way.
"Are you ready?" I asked him coming to stand behind the couch. "Nala and Liera are waiting on us."
"Yeah sure just a few more minutes here and i'll be done." He glared back at the twins.
"Just leave it." I stated. "Siblings argue all the time." I stated. "There's no need to scold them over a simple sibling rivalry."
He glanced back at them and looked at me again before sighing. "I suppose." He answered. "You two need to be mindful that you have roommates here." Was his final parting message for them as he gently pushed me towards the door.
"Oh wait; I laid my phone down." I stated patting my pockets. "I'll meet you outside; just give me a second." He continued out the door and I let it close behind him before facing the twins. "After tonight you won't even know I'm here. I'll be sure to stay out of your way." I went to the door before turning to face them again. "Just give me one night of false freedom, please." After I said that I left and met up with Kai just as he hit the exit or my dorm building.
This time we made it to the Expedition and I climbed in the back awkwardly being to short to get in effortlessly. Nala was in the back with me while Liera was in front of me and Kai was driving. We were only driving for about five minutes before we arrived at the restaurant. I looked down at the jeans I am wearing and sighed. I'm so under dressed for this kind of place.
