Sick

Kai hovered for a bit before he finally left my room, but he forgot to close my door; so I could hear everything that they were saying. They really need to learn how to be quiet in a shared room. I eavesdropped on their conversation for a while until they got rowdy enough that I could have a reason to make my being awake still known. Acting isn't my strong suit, but I know how to look tired or sick when I need to. I got up and made my way to the door. Not as quietly as I had thought since they all looked at me as soon as I was in the doorway. "Kurosaki?" One of the twins asked looking concerned. "I thought you were sleeping." Kai stated standing up. "I was, but you guys were loud." I stated quietly. "Now, I can't fall asleep again; so I thought I'd go for a walk." "You can't leave the dorm unless you're going to classes, or you're accompanied by someone from the clan, remember?" One of the new roommates stated. "Oh yeah." I started to turn towards my room again. "Night." I gave a small wave as I made my way back into my room and plopped down in front of my desk. "Was that really necessary?" Kai asked. "You do realize that was the first time he's left his room on his own since arriving on our territory, right?" He sighed loudly. "You basically just sent him back in there like some animal confined to a cage." I  huffed but it was covered with a cough. Like that's anything new. I've always been sheltered and held back because I don't fit in anywhere. I've been pretending to be something I'm not for so long that I don't even know who or what I am anymore. A caged animal seems to the the most fitting description of what I am now. I sighed quietly which made me cough again. Great, I'm probably getting sick thanks to the seasons changing, not taking care of myself, and going out earlier not at all dressed for the weather. "Technically he didn't leave his room since he never passed the doorway." I heard and chuckled before it also turned into a cough again. "Not the point Nobu, and you guys know that the school fair is in two days. He has to go to it." Kai answered. "If I find out that he has pulled a stunt like this again because of any of you I won't let it slide." Three 'yes sir' answers were his response. "I'm going to check on him, and hopefully help him fall asleep again." He stated. "Since it sounds like he may have gotten himself sick in the midst of all of this." "I have some night time allergy medicine in the cabinet if you think that'll help." "Thanks, Nobu." "Of course, he's one of us now, right?" Nobu responded. "Of course." "What does your father think of this new sworn brother of yours?" Nori asked harshly. "He can't possibly be happy about it." "Actually, he thinks mom is a genius." Kai answered back just as harshly. Of course it's all business. No one could actually care about the illegitimate 'son' of Lotus clan without some ulterior motives. If there isn't anything to be gained from it I suppose that there isn't any real reason to even pretend to like me. I got up again as the reality of my own thoughts weighed on my mind. I'll never truly have any real friends, not until I can reveal my real identity. I made my way out of my room and walked straight through to the door. I ignored all of them as they called for me. wobbling the way that I was made the guise of sleepwalking that much more believable. I just kept walking. Making sure that I was going towards my territory. I could hear everything being said behind me as they followed me. "Where is he going?" "His territory is this way." Kai answered. "But he doesn't have shoes on." I knew I didn't have any shoes on; I did it on purpose to help with the guise of sleepwalking, shoe's hell I don't even have my phone on me. "How far is it to his territory from here?" "He'll wake up before he even gets a quarter of the way there." Kai responded. "I didn't realize he'd already fallen asleep again because of his coughing." "If he's sleepwalking then we should be able to wake him up." One of them suggested. "No, I want to see how far he gets before he stops." Kai stated. "If he turns or anything then that'll tell me he's not trying to go back to his territory." Kai stated. "We're still on campus so he's not breaking any rules yet, and if he does leave campus in this state; I want to make sure he's not going to get into any trouble." "Why do you care so much about what happens to him?" That was definitely Nori. "Because if anything happens to him it'll cause an all out clan war!" Kai yelled making me freeze. A clan war? Is that really what will happen? Not over me. "No." I stated and slowly turned to face them all. "It won't be an all out clan war." Only a handful of people even know who I really am, and every single one of them are from my clan. My family, doctor, and my trainer. That's not enough to start an entire clan war. "What does the bastard son know of clan matters?" Nori glared at me making me look down at my suddenly cold and aching feet. "That's exactly why it won't cause and all out war, it'll just be these two clans, and whoever they drag in trying to get the upper hand." I stated quietly. "If it's just our two clans it'll be a stalemate because of how equally matched they are." "More than you expected I'd say." Nobu stated earning him an elbow to the ribs making me cringe. "Why are we outside?" I suddenly asked making them all look at me like I'd sprouted a second head. "And why aren't I wearing shoes?" "Do you sleepwalk?" Kai asked. "I don't know." I stated. "Why?" "We were following you." One of the other roommates I hadn't met yet stated. "You weren't responding to any of us when we called out to you." "Kai was the one to figure out you were sleep walking." Nobu stated. "Where were you going anyway?" Nori snapped. "The better question is; what were you dreaming about?" Kai glared at Nori. "I was studying, and needed a book, but none of the ones I have had the answer I needed in it." I shrugged. "Classes haven't even started yet; why are you working so hard already?" Kai asked. "In case I get sick and can't attend classes; I'll still be able to keep up with everyone else." I shrugged before erupting into another harsh coughing fit. "Kurosaki!" Nobu and Kai both shouted as they rushed towards me Kai caught me just as my knees hit the ground. I couldn't seem to catch my breath. Every time I tried to breathe I just coughed that much harder. "Hatchiko!?" Kai shifted his hold and picked me up bridal style once I stopped coughing. "I'm taking you back to your dorm room, and I'm going to take care of you until you've completely recovered." "B-but." I tried to argue. "No buts." He snapped thumping my forehead before freezing and placing his hand over my forehead. "You're feeling feverish." "I'm fine; I'll be back to normal tomorrow." I argued. "No one get's better over night." Nobu chuckled. "There's no point in arguing with the boss you know that, right?" He asked. "It doesn't hurt to try." I stated. "I'm just as bull headed." I remarked. "We are both forces to be reckoned with in that sense." "This is true you are a hell of a debater from what I've seen and heard." Kai commented. "I've seen some of your debate footage from your high school debate team." "You've watched those?" I asked. "Yeah." He stated. "Why?" "I wanted to see if the rumors were true." He answered. "I couldn't believe that you'd never lost a debate without using any dirty tricks." "That's why I was the one featured on CSPAN for our debate team." I stated. "I don't have to use dirty tricks to win either side of an argument." "Cocky prick." Nori grumbled making Kai stop. "I-I don't feel good." I whined burying my face into his chest . "It's to bright out here, and cold." "I'll deal with it later then." He stated as he continued walking again. "Just leave it be." I mumbled as I was really starting to feel worse. "It's not worth it." "You're probably right." "I know I am." "Rest." He stated. "I'll take care of you." He patted my shoulder. "There's nothing for you to worry about while I'm here." "Mmm." Was my simple response which made him chuckle. "Is he falling asleep again?" one of the others asked. "Yeah." Kai sighed. "Hopefully this time he'll stay asleep." He remarked. "He'll never get better if he doesn't rest and take care of himself." By the time we made it back to our dorm I was completely out, and the only reason I know that is because Kai and Nobu were trying to wake me up and keep me awake long enough to take my temperature. It was a hassle to say the least. I'm not a people person when I'm sick. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of getting me to fall asleep if they were just going to wake me up again. "Come on Kurosaki, we need to take your temperature." Nobu stated making me sit up even though I was still trying to stay asleep. "Is this a regular thing when he's sick?" Nobu asked. "I don't know, this is the first time I've ever even heard of him getting sick." Kai answered. "Even if he did it wasn't ever this bad; I think it's because of his injuries and lack of nourishment lately." "So, we are to blame for this?" Nobu asked. "No." Kai and I both stated. "It's my own fault." I continued quietly. "I should have just went to school in my own territory." "What?" They both asked looking at me shocked. "Then I wouldn't be causing so many problems for everyone, I'd be a little more welcomed, and I'd be able to have a bit more freedom without having to look over my shoulder all the time." I finished. "Now that you're a little more awake let's take your temperature." Kai stated. "Then I have some medicine for you to take, and you can go back to bed." "Can't I just go back to bed now, I was already sleeping." "No, just let me do this so I know if I need to go get some other medicine for you." Kai answered holding the thermometer out to me. I sighed and just let them take my temperature. When it beeped and Kai read it he sighed, and looked at Nobu before handing him the thermometer. He sighed as well, and left. "What?" I asked looking up at Kai as he pushed me back against my bed. "Just relax, we're going to wait to give you medicine, just try to go back to sleep." He stated pulling the blanket back over me. "That bad?" I asked. "Just rest." He sighed. "I'll be right here if you need anything." "I'll be fine." I remarked with a sigh. "I can take care of myself." "I beg to differ." Nobu stated coming back in my room. "If you could you wouldn't be in this condition now." He stated handing a wet washcloth to Kai. "This should help a little." I just huffed and rolled so that I was facing away from the two of them. I sighed and closed my eyes just to try and fall asleep again. I felt the cold towel get placed around my neck and jumped at the coldness of it. I huffed as I finally started to relax. I still felt hot though. "Give me your wrist." Kai said and I just held my hand out towards him. He took it and tied another cold cloth around it before letting my arm go again. "It should help you to cool down again." "Try and get some rest." They repeated at the same time making me sigh yet again. I hate getting sick because people feel the need to fret over me like I'm not capable of taking care of myself. I'm twenty almost twenty-one years old; I'm more than capable of taking care of myself. Granted, I'm well aware that I haven't actually shown that to these guys yet, but it's still true. I just decided to stop responding to them when they addressed me so they'd leave that much faster. I was partly right; only Nobu left. Kai was still sitting next to my bed and every time I'd move would either fix the cloths around me or pull the blanket back up over me. He eventually took the cloths away once they dried out. He attempted to take my temperature again without waking me up, but I'm not sure how well it went since there wasn't much of a reaction form him after it beeped. It did get him to leave for a few minutes though. I was finally able to relax more and actually get closer to falling asleep again. He needed to stop freaking out every time that I shifted even the tiniest bit. I probably wouldn't have had any issues falling back asleep if they would have turned my light off after taking my temperature. Waiting hours to fall asleep when you aren't feeling good is quite annoying to say the least. It took so long for me to fall asleep that Kai actually ended up falling asleep first. That was apparently what I was waiting for since I fell asleep shortly after he did. How he was able to fall asleep leaning against the side of my bed; I have no idea, but I'm glad that he did.
