Meeting her

1783 Words
*Dexter* “I am sorry. I will have to take this…” she says. I know the reason why she shutters away. She feels uneasy about the way Linda indirectly accused her. Even the looks on Linda’s face are enough to send away any lady. Damn! Her disdainful glare alone can burn down her skin. After making sure Scarlett is out of ear drop, Linda turns to me, “Are you sure you are safe around her? I don’t trust that lady, if she can…” Why is she doing this? What is she trying to achieve? Why is she f*cking prying into my private affairs? I turn to her, my anger concealing, asking, “Are you trying to show your disapproval of my choice or what?” Her eyes narrow as if she is damn so innocent. How could many ladies like to pretend to make-believe to be a little angel whereas they are f*cking devil replica? I know her words, her glares, her body reactions and her actions are something that Linda shows to disapprove of Scarlett. “Why do you assume that, Sir? It is me doing my job and not interfering with your private life.” she replies, her face bowing to the floor like a professional assistant she ought to be. “I don’t think you really are professional about this being my assistant. If not, you will know your place and stop acting like an angry vulture around my woman. This will be the last time we will talk about this. If not, you know I know your way back to the little downtrodden,” my eyes threaten. She has gone over my nerves. As if she has seen a ghost, her eyes flash with shock, but she looks around before turning to me, catching stares from pass bye, “Sir, we are in public…” she mumbles, trying to control her anger, holding them in her fists as they clench together so that her muscles and bones are visible. I don’t even care whatever she thinks. We were also in public when she was glaring like an angry bird at my girlfriend, accusing her. “Didn’t you think of that before accusing my girlfriend, Linda?” Gritting her teeth, she lets a worried heartily sigh, “But I didn’t accuse her…” she snaps, earning herself a smirk from me. “Alright, I am sorry,” she mumbles slowly with regret after my actions. “I allow my emotion to take over me,” she finally says the truth. Emotion! What kind of emotion would make her act snobbish to my girlfriend? “Then control your emotions. As an assistant to the Heir of Turner Conglomerate, I expect you to curtail how you react to people around me.” I say and leave her standing, staring at me. Out of a sudden, an idea crops into my head and I turn back. The moment I turn, I meet the most devilish frown on her face. I chuckle ridiculously. Approaching her, “Thinking of something dubious, are you?” My words catch her unaware, but she is able to control herself the next minute with a questioning grin, “I don’t get you, sir,” “But I happened to get that mysterious grin on your face some while ago. Do you know what? I won’t repeat anything, but if anything happens to Scarlett, I will make sure all that you love is ruined before your eyes.” I warn. Despite her widened brows, she says, “I apologize… I am not that…” “Save that for yourself. I want you to book for me anywhere I can have a vacation for a few weeks. I mean somewhere romantic with my girlfriend,” I say, waiting for her reaction. She shows no expression other than her lips crawling against each other. “I will do something about it,” she says with a plain voice. “Then I need to get my girlfriend,” I say and trail off, chuckling sweetly to myself. I never know how those fairy tales work, but meeting Scarlett is like a fictional tale, like Hollywood romance movies to me, and I wish to create a quest… such reality adventures with her. She walked into my life when I thought my life was completely out of date and thought, just like Christmas and the New Year, I would be alone, staring at the ceiling of my room for Valentine. My happiness was broken and laughter seemed to be a long ago tale on my lips. Everything that mattered became matterless all because my heart was broken by Selene, my ex. Selene is one of my best friends’ sisters, and we have known each other for a long time. Our love journey was so smooth, with being a big brother to a lover. She is a beautiful damsel with long curly black hair, two full chiseled lips that never lack the shiny texture, best for everyday kisses, a full chest that swings in a melody anytime she walks, and I just couldn’t stop thinking about her, growing up before my very eyes. Upon all the love I showered her… upon all the time I used to cherish her… she woke up one day and broke the sad news to me. She wanted to opt out. She wanted nothing from me, not even my love and my heart. She was now too big, and her coat was too large to stray. She broke my heart and robbed it of my face when she flashed her engagement ring before my friends and her friends, informing everyone who cared to know she was engaged to another man. The man who couldn’t even be considered cuter and wealthier than me. Being ignorant had made her think I wasn’t that wealthy enough to give her the life she wanted. She was ignorant of all the estates and businesses I controlled. She was ignorant of me being the driver for all the Turner subsidiaries and only making people who were visible, like Jayden, take all the credit. It is still me Dexter Turner, the heir to the Turner conglomerate. Everyone who heard of our breakup asked me questions. Not even her brother would change her mind. She left and never turned back. I know she is currently back in New York and I don’t even care. Valentine's Day is just two days away. Like other Valentines, I don’t want to stay without making it memorable. I never knew that the person that would fill my life with love and I would fall in love just at first sight would meet me by the door of my office, sobbing. Yes, she was damn sobbing. I saw the tears even when her lips brushed into mine. The first thing that captured me was her ocean blue eyes. They look like the decoration of an earthen pot my grandmother cherished, lying by the side of my paternal grandparents' mansion in England. The tears in her eyes seemed like ocean water under her eyes. My daydream ends when I see her, talking to Gerald, the logistics manager. Jealousy flows into me like running hot water. I don’t even know what had gone wrong between them, but I know Scarlett was broken by him, just like how I felt when Selena did that to me. Approaching without drawing their attention, I hear, “Gerald, this isn’t a prank,” Does he think everything was a play thing? How can he be foolish to believe that? She f**king proposed to me in front of him, yet he couldn’t figure out that and fought to have her. He stood there like a broken i***t, now he thinks everything is a prank. What a ridiculous assumption! “Then you are hurting me greatly. How can you propose to my boss just minutes after that…” he stops, rolling his eyes. I catch the frustration in his body language. At that moment, I notice Scarlett is also drained, talking about them. I hate to see her look unhappy. When I see through her, I find pain and regret. She seems not to be in the mood to talk to him, but he is pushing his way into her. “Get it, I don’t want to talk about it, and it’s late already. As you know, I am already someone else’s girlfriend… excuse me,” she says and tries to walk past him when he races forward, standing in her way. That is enough for me to put a stop to all this drama. She doesn’t want him, so why is he pushing her around, stalking her? “Yes, she is.” I say, approaching them as they turn to me. I can see his veins sprouting, anger coats preheating in his body. He could have haul me to death, probably he has the power at that moment. But, it never bothers me anyway. “Will I say you find your work boring that you have to pry at her at every given opportunity, Mr. Gerald?” I say just as I pull Scarlett into my body possessively, looking into his eyes. His heart almost stops, but I continue, ignoring his feelings. “I believe you know this is an organization and not a playing ground. You are here to work. Can you return to your office and stop wandering around? Take note, she is now my girlfriend. Always remember that,” I sputter, patting his shoulder. A shock rubs over him, but he finally takes a step away and then walks away, his head down and his teeth grits. A failed attempt! I sense it. Is he trying to convince Scarlett to leave me? I chuckle before turning to Scarlett, “You took too long, sweetheart,” A smile slips out of her face and I find it so charming. She is much more beautiful than Selena and, even furthermore, when she smiles so sweetly, “Yes, it was my best friend. She is too troublesome,” she replies. “Come, let’s go eat, and you will tell me about this troublesome friend of yours,” I say, winking and leading her away. We walk past Gerald who stands, biting his lip in jealousy and clenching his fists, and another chuckle slips out of my lips. It is time to ignore the fool and concentrate on my quest, creating every memory of every click of time I will spend with her, sharing our hearts and creating a perfect definition of a true love story. Even the Valentine's surprise holiday must be the first adventure in her life...
