Rose's POV
For a second there,my heart forgot how to beat and the weight of my body suddenly became too heavy for my shaky legs. I shook my head and blinked to clear my thoughts but the sight before me was still there, glaring. Kane and his mother, in the room, their words still echoing through the air. Kane had been instructed to marry Samantha, his sister and we both lose our lives if he rejected me.
No! I shook my head again and took a few steps away from the door, careful not to make any noise with my foot. This cannot be happening! It can't be! I was trapped in a loveless marriage with a man I would have detested on a regular day and now... My life was hanging by a thread.
I would never be happy with Kane and I would have to live in fear of my precious life. I took a deep breath and leaned against the wall for support. Things were not supposed to end up like this, and now that it had, there was only one thing left for me to do.
Without further contemplations I spun on my heels, lifting my long gown with the tip of my hands to allow my legs free passage before charging towards the stairs. And then I ran.
I ran so fast that the breeze wheezing breeze became the only thing I heard. I slammed the door of the apartment behind me as I stepped out of the house, then I headed to the bushy pathway which led to the only destination I could think of, the wet grass slapping my face and my legs as I ran along.
The blazing moon lighted my path and soon I was at the front porch of the house, banging the door with my fist.
"Father," I cried out, feeling my throat pulsate with the loudness I made the call with. "Open the door!" I banged my fist harder. "There is trouble, big trouble."
I placed my ear to the door and waited for a response, but there was only silence on the other end. Besieged by a sense of urgency, I grabbed the doorknob but it was as stiff as a rock.
"Father," I called out again, knocking the door incessantly. "it's me, Rose, let me in"
A deep wave of pain surged up my throat then and I burst into a peal of sobs to let them out, falling to my knees. Just then, the was thrown apart and my father was came into view, his dark eyes radiating an aversion so thick that my insides shriveled.
"What is the meaning of this!" He growled angrily. "How dare you return to this place! Why did you leave Kane alone."
"Father, there's been a terrible mistake," I pleaded, my voice shaking with sobs. "I should never have married Kane."
In all as much as one breath, I explained everything I overheard, including the passionate moment Kane was sharing with Samantha.
"We have made a mistake!" I said as a summarising conclusion. "I should never have married Kane"
Beta Gaymond remained there gazing like with the impassiveness of a roadside statue. I thought my words had resonated with him and was going to make more admonishment when he suddenly grabbed me by the shoulder and pushed me off the front porch.
"Arrgh!" I yelled as I crashed onto the cold and sticky ground.
"Don't ever again return here," he shouted. "Your home is with Alpha Kane as your duty is to the council of elders." He paused and leaned towards me as I cowered, his eyes darkening with undiluted resentment.
"There's only one mistake here Rose," he raised his hand to my face and tucked a strand of loose hair behind my hair.
"And it is you. The only mistake made,is your life. You should never have existed. Now return to the Moonpaw manor and do as you've been instructed. Imagine the numerous things that Kane would have done in your absence."
He screamed, grabbing my neck and closed his huge hand around it. "Don't ever again leave the manor. You are to remain there and help us secure ownership of the pack. "
He straightened up, turned around and walked out on me, locking the door firmly behind him.
Everywhere fell silent immediately and his words began to echo within the four walls of my head.
I was a mistake, my existence has to significance to any end. I was only a pawn in their game of more, nothing but a means to an end. I gathered my soiled gown and staggered to my feet. The instant I did this, thunder crackled in the sky and an heavy downpour began. Just what I needed now, rain.
I opted to remain at the entrance and leave when the rain stopped but my father's threats resounded in my head and I forged on the rain careful not to slip and fall.
When I was running away from the Moonpaw manor, I had thought l was escaping bondage,i didn't realize that my whole life was a bedrock of lies and false hopes.
I continued walking, the rain increasing in torrents with each second until it suddenly became accompanied by a fierce wind which threw things in all directions.
I started running again, gripping my long hair as the rain threw it in all directions. I heaved a deep sigh of relief when I spotted the mansion ahead. I heaved a deep breath of relief when I didn't meet anyone in the living room but the instant I opened the bedroom door, the sight I was froze my blood to ice.
"Where are you coming from Rose and who were you were you with?"
The sound of his voice sent made different emotions coarse to my head. I wanted to throw myself into his arms again at the same time, I
wanted to push him away.
"I went for a walk," I stuttered, moving backwards as he started closing the space between us. "The weather beckoned to my wolf senses"
With one more stride, Kane closed the gap between us and placed his hand beside my neck to keep me in place.
"Why are you spying on me Rose?"
