Rose's POV
It had been two days after Kane demoted to the post of a mere maid and I could only say how horrible the experience had been. I woke up as early as 4AM and scrubbed the tiles. After that I would join the kitchen maids in cooking and cleaning.
Within the period of three days, my hand had become rough and my fingers had become chirped at the edges. I carried out my duties as diligently as I could, hoping Kane would remember me and change his mind about the punishment.
But he didn't,even after I learnt that Elder Raven would be coming visit this pack this morning. I had actually woken up early, thinking Kane would summon me to his room and tell me he had changed his mind, but he did not.
And to make matters worse, Samantha, his sister lover, had moved into the house and she succeeded in making life a living hell for me.
I washed her clothes, cleaned her room, run her bath water while she hits me and the slightest inconvenience for petty crimes. She slept in Kane's room every night and even at this my subconscious refuses to believe that they were sharing pleasures.
For reasons I can't explain,a deep part of me refuses to acknowledge that my mate was sharing his body,my body with someone else,a spiteful person for that matter.
On the day Elder Raven was scheduled to visit, I had finished my morning chores and was just preparing to go and take a bath when the door of my room was suddenly thrown apart.
The action took me by suprise,my heart nearly flying through my nose when I turned around to behold Kane's huge figure. His hand lingered on the door knob, a cold look on his face.
An alarm exploded in my head and I before I could think of what to do I yanked the curtain off the window and covered my naked body with it.
The loud pounding of my heart filled my ears and making me clutch the silky fabric tighter, my eyes dilating willdy in their sockets. The linen fabric had clunged to my unclad body I could feel Kane's eyes devouring me.
"It is respectful when you knock people's rooms without knocking," I stuttered, taking a few steps backwards as he walked into the room. "This act isn't fair or revering in any way."
He kept mute, his eyes scanning the small room with the solemnity of a scavenger. I cowered again, widening the gap between us while he rolled his eyes impassively.
"I'm sure you've heard about Elder Raven's advent." He began, tucking his long hands into his pockets
"Yes," I responded, nodding slowly. "
"You are not to say anything about your demotion or your post in the house"
"What!"
"Yes you heard me," he confirmed. "He is currently waiting at the lobby to receive me. You are not to say anything an your duties."
"You mean I'm not to tell him you've made me a slave in my house?"
"Yes," he confirmed. "Dress well and act normal when he summons you. Don't forget about the condition of the pack, and the trouble we would be in of you told them anything contrary to what they want to hear."
"But why have you made me a slave Alpha Kane?" I questioned. "Why have you chosen to subject me to this ignoble treatment."
He curved his lips into a mocking smirk and turned in direction of the door.
"You are an omega Rose," he declared. "Omegas were made to be slaves."
That trite statement seemed to have different effect on me everytime and it ripped me to pieces now, leaving an invisible chill in its wake.
I felt ashamed,an open wound in a furnace as I dragged my legs into the bathroom. Samantha had all my pretty clothes taken away, including my jewellries and expensive gowns. But I was given leave to dress up today.
I settled for a blue sequin gown and concealed the dark bags under my eyes with makeup. Alisha and Elise helped me style my hair in a ponytail, and then I was all good to go.
I descended the stairs which led to the living room as quickly as I could but instead of the peaceful meeting I had anticipated,I met Kane and Elder Raven in the middle of a heated argument.
I stopped in my tracks, eyes widened in shock. Alpha Kane was on his feet, eyes blazing with fury as his huge figure towered above the old man's scrawny own.
"You and the remaining elders in the council have no right to attempt to control me!" Kane shouted. "I am my father's rightful heir and this is my inheritance!"
"You have no right to raise your voice at an noble elder. Learn to respect the people before you!"
"Oh really"
"Yes!" Elder Raven continued, standing on his toes to match with Kane's massive height.
"You are nothing Kane," he continued, seething with exceeding rage. "The council is responsible for you at this point and if you don't learn to respect us there will be nothing for you. You had the impetuous to reduce Rose to a common slave,or did you think we wouldn't find out?"
The old man put out his hand and nudged Kane's broad chest. "Even at that, you refused to accept her and treat her well. Her father even had to plead with you to reassert her position as lunar of the pack but you refused. What exactly is your problem!"
There was short silence after that statement and I had just begun to think that Kane had changed his mind when he suddenly scoffed, his eyes darkening with rage.
"I was never interested in marrying Rose," he began. "But you people forced me against my will. My step sister, Samantha is alive and I am going to marry her in a fortnight. You and the rest of the sham council are invited to the wedding!"
The atmosphere fell into silence and my legs gave way underneath me instantly. Elder Raven's face became a mask of fear, the colour draining from his pale face.
"I am not rejecting Rose," he continued. "She will be a figurehead wife and the ceremonial lunar. Samantha will be the real Lunar with the complete power and the owner of my heart. "
