Kane's unexpected announcement took Elder Raven by surprise and I felt his consternation descending on the atmosphere. This wasn't a good idea. Even I hadn't been expecting the sudden turn of events. Samantha would move into the manor totally and I would be swept aside, even forced to remain a maid. This wasn't the plan, this was not it!
And apart from that, Samantha's union with Kane would strengthen his position as Alpha of the pack and he would no longer be subjected to the council's control.
Grateful that Elder Raven hadn't seen me,I lifted my long gown off my legs and ascended the stairs that led to my room. Tears,hot and blinding, gushed out my eyes. I opened the door and closed it behind me, leaning on it with my eyes closed.
