Chapter 14: The Breaking Moon

257 Words
Darius The moment Alina emerged from the flames, crowned in ash and wrapped in light, I knew we were past the point of return. She looked… otherworldly. Hair wild, eyes blazing, skin etched with glowing veins that pulsed like moonlight under her skin. The mark of Virel shimmered on her collarbone. So did Thorne’s. She bears both. She shouldn’t be alive. And yet, she stood. Breathing. Changed. I wanted to run to her. But she didn’t look at me. She didn’t look at Jaxon either. She looked at the sky — and it cracked. A thunderous roar echoed through the trees as the Blood Moon began to eclipse. And from the heart of the woods, something stirred. ⸻ Alina The ground trembled beneath my boots. My heartbeat was no longer my own. It belonged to something older, something primal — and now awakened. I clutched the crown in my hand, its ash smearing across my palm like soot from a burnt offering. “Do you feel that?” I whispered. Jaxon stepped closer. “The First… he’s waking.” Darius’s voice was low, reverent. “You just broke the seal.” Suddenly, pain tore through my spine. I dropped to my knees as the wind screamed, and glowing symbols erupted across the trial stones, forming a sigil I had never seen before — but somehow knew. The Seal of Origin. My soul is his key. One seal has broken. The First Alpha stirs. And not everyone who walks beside Alina plans to protect her from what’s coming.
