Alina’s POV
It moved like me.
It spoke like me.
But it wasn’t me.
This… thing standing in the center of the chamber wore my face twisted in cruelty, my voice laced with venom, and my memories sharpened into weapons.
“You’re weak,” it sneered. “Still clinging to fairy tales and forbidden crushes. Still pretending you’re normal.”
I stepped back, instinct screaming, heart pounding. “You’re not real.”
Its smile widened. “I’m the most real part of you.”
Darkness rippled out from its feet, swallowing the glowing runes on the floor. The chamber dimmed, and all I could hear was Jaxon’s muffled shouting on the other side of the barrier.
I tried to summon the energy I’d felt before—the light—but it wouldn’t come. My mark pulsed, but weakly, like it was unsure.
“You think you’re the Moon’s chosen?”
“You think he really cares about you?”
“You’re just a human girl with a fancy scar and a death wish.”
It lunged.
We collided hard. I hit the stone, gasping, pain blooming across my shoulder. The mirror version of me stood over me, its hands glowing with silver flame.
“You’ll never be strong enough to survive in his world. Let me end the lie.”
I closed my eyes.
Not because I was giving up.
But because I finally realized what the Reflection wanted: my fear.
I opened my eyes and whispered, “I’m not afraid of being broken. I’m afraid of losing myself.”
Light exploded from my wrist—the mark flaring white-hot. The Reflection screamed as it staggered back, skin cracking like shattered glass.
I stood, blood in my mouth, fury in my bones.
“You’re not me,” I said, voice steady. “You’re what they tried to turn me into.”
I raised my hand—and the flame that burst from my palm was mine.
The Reflection lunged one last time.
I didn’t flinch.
I struck first.
When it shattered into mist, the chamber walls pulsed once—then slowly, the barrier faded.
Jaxon caught me as I stumbled out. He didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to.
I passed the first trial.
But deep down, I knew something had changed.
Inside me.
And around me.
Because as I collapsed into Jaxon’s arms, another whisper echoed through the chamber:
“One bond has awakened. Two more remain. And then… the seal will break.”
From the shadows of the chamber, unseen by all… a figure cloaked in moonlight smiled.
“She’s stronger than I hoped.”
