After Mama Tasmina and Asha had finally left, Eli and I were alone with the babies. They were sleeping softly in their cot beside the bed. We had tried putting them in separate cots but they had screamed until we had reunited them.
I lay with my head on Eli's chest, listening to his strong heartbeat. We hadn't spoken after everyone had left us and we lay in silence now.
"I know you are angry at my decision... but if war comes, I need you and the children as far from the fight as possible," he said, his voice deep and clear in the dark.
There was a tight feeling in my chest, as though someone held my heart in their fist.
"I can fight... I have trained with Sakina in these months and..." my voice caught and I took a deep breath as Eli pulled me close against him.
