I lie motionless in my bed, staring up at the ceiling, a wave of self-pity crashing over me like a tidal wave I can’t escape. “Why me? Why can’t I just be normal like Yasmin?” I say aloud, barely above a whisper. Suddenly, the wall shakes as Yasmin kicks it. “Shut up, Lux! Stop being all angsty—it’s eight in the morning!” Yasmin yells from the other side of the room. I roll my eyes, too tired to care, and slowly drag myself out of bed. I shuffle out of my room like a zombie searching for brains. “What do you want, Lux?” Yasmin groans, rolling over in her ridiculously fancy silver luxury bed, her twin-sized mattress looking like it belongs in a five-star hotel.
