Chapter 3:TheBeginning

We went on two more laps until my legs gave out. I couldn’t continue any longer. While we were running, we also took the chance to talk about where we came from and why we both got into the field of science. Turned out we both wanted to be pharmacists but didn’t get in so we just went on to study science and ended up not completely despising the field. After all, it did bring us together. It was already dark, I was tired, and I just needed to rest. He was a gentleman and accompanied me to my dorm. I lived outside the campus. So, it was not safe for a lady to walk alone at night. There were very unfriendly people lurking around, thugs, looking to make a quick buck. There was this corner I was so afraid of passing. So, he accompanied me until I reached my gate. I thanked him while inside the yard. He didn’t even ask for a hug. He just waved goodbye and left. That small gesture left a warm feeling in my heart. I don’t know how, but suddenly the demons I was battling were slowly leaving me. One of them was loneliness. I suddenly felt I had another friend to lean on, who had my back. I felt good at that moment. I even slept better that night. I even woke up to a better, brighter morning the next day. Except for the fact that my feet hurt from all that running I had to do. We continued to see each other from that Saturday. Developed a great foundation for our friendship to grow on. We suddenly did things together. I would want to go grocery shopping, and he would drop anything he was doing just to come lighten my load for me. What a gentleman right? I couldn’t decide on anything anymore without consulting him. Even studying became a lot easier with him there to explain to me, or maybe it was just an excuse for both of us to see each other more. I forgot for a moment how my life was before he was in it. He was like my shadow. Although some things we didn’t share, he would always make time to walk me to my dorm when it was too late for me to walk by myself. We would study till late at night. Stop by the overnight café and buy some snacks. This other time we studied till late and as we were walking I accidentally played one of Taylor Swift’ songs and he started singing. I couldn’t control the laughter that came after. He was a total swiftie, as he liked to call it. After that incident, I learned many songs from him, and I enjoyed them. I liked that he had a little feminine side.
