Chapter 4

It doesn’t take him long to unlock the door and storm in. "Looking for something?” I smirk. He slowly closes the door behind him, locking it as he keeps his eyes pinned on me. I roll my eyes in return, crossing my arms across my chest as I ask “seriously? Locking me up already? We've just met”. A cat-like smile spreads over his face as he pulls up a chair on the other side of the desk “just making sure our little chat isn’t disturbed. Now would you like to tell me why you hate me? Or am I to guess?”. “The list is long. I think it would be too long for you to guess,” I sneer, looking anywhere but at him. From the corner of my eye I see him motion for me to continue. With a huff I start listing off my reasons quickly and, without pause, “Well, for one, I never wanted a mate, I am a person not someone else’s possession. For two, I have plans for my life which do not include being tied down to a mate...... Now let’s start on you personally”. My eyes glide back to his as I stand from the chair, leaning over the desk to look down upon him.“ For one, you’re an Alpha, which means you’re even more possessive than the average wolf. For two, I’m still in high school whereas you are in your mid-twenties. And for my third and final point. You are a man wh*re. I don’t like to touch things when I don’t know where they've been”. Only now does Judah break eye contact, looking down at his hands for a moment before rising from his chair to look down upon me, hands resting on the desk as he leans in suffocatingly close. “I can see you're not going to make this easy. How about a deal? A compromise of sorts”. “Compromise? You shock me, I didn’t know you were capable of such things.....” my sarcastic tone turns serious as I ask “What kind of deal?” “Give me one week to convince you, otherwise you can reject me, I’ll accept, and you can be on your merry way”. I scoff, “A week, and you would set me free?” He nods “ Yes, BUT you will have to let me treat you as all mates do. Let me take you on dates, talk about stuff, let me touch you...” I interrupted before he can continue. “I am sooooo not having s*x with you.” He instantly frowns, slight offense as he replies “I was never suggesting that. I was saying non-s****l, like holding hands ect. You seriously think I’m that low? I would never force you to do anything......”. I roll my eyes “you want to take me as your mate, and you don’t even know my fu*king name?” “It doesn’t make you any less my mate.” “Poppy” I groan, arms crossing over my chest, somehow feeling vulnerable now. “That’s a beautiful name,” he replies, not holding in his smile even a little as he eases the tension within. I shrug and pull back my shoulder in an attempt to rid myself of the feeling and, thankfully, successfully hold in a smile of my own. He leans over to stroke my cheek and tingles jolted down my body, a sweet fire lingering where he touches, almost making me moan. I shake it off quickly and regain my composure, but not before he realizes what he has done to me and lets out a smirk. I mentally roll my eyes and get back to more important things. “If I decide to do this, I still get to finish school next week?” “Of course” “Do I get to stay with my family?” He smirks further “I would have thought you would have wanted to keep it a secret. You know, I don’t think your father would react well if you told him your intention to reject me”. My brows furrow. “Wait, you don’t know my name, but you suddenly think you know what my father would want?”. His smile turns smug now as he leans even closer, his breath warm across my skin as he replies “I may not know your name, but your eyes tell me you’re the Beta's daughter. Although I have met your sisters and brothers many times.... why have I never met you?”. I'm lost, lost in his scent, his closeness... and I almost answer. Almost. I lean back, finding myself again as I move further steps away, asking instead "You’ve got a point. What did you have in mind?” “I have a cabin in the woods. We could stay there” he holds his hands up in mock surrender to add“ separate rooms, of course”. I nod slowly as I sigh, relenting when I can't come up with anything else “okay, you’ve got yourself a deal”. He smiles triumphantly, before smiling further as he asks again “Now tell me why we haven’t met before?”. His smile is as wide as it was goofy, and it takes everything I have not to smile in return, turning away from him instead. Hope, my wolf, is already enraptured with him, pleading with me to accept him. And the whinging is already giving me a headache, only complicating matters further as I feel Judah again take steps to close the distance between us. I pinch my nose as I try, again, to explain to her why having a mate isn't what we need right now. But it was pointless, and she's determined. I sigh, turning back to a much closer Judah as I lazily answer his lingering question. “We have met before, we were just younger. You probably don’t remember, you know, since we didn’t fu*k. Although I doubt you even remember all of them. And..... it’s because I didn’t want to”. I motion between us with a smug expression “I should have tried harder”. Judah shrugs, completely unfazed by my comments, still smiling the exact same. “Okay, have your stuff packed and ready, we move in tomorrow morning, nine am sharp”. I want to argue but he cuts me off. “A deals a deal, don’t tell me now your word means nothing?” he smirks playfully. I roll my eyes. “Fine nine am it is. But you tell no one about this. No one but Jacob. He won’t believe anything but the truth.” His expression is serious as he nods, adding with a shrug “Fine with me, meet you at the back of the pack house. Nine, sharp”. I nod, making sure to keep enough space between us as I move past him, and I can feel his smugness as I do.... I need to get this under control... fast. I rejoin the party and Jacob is beside me in an instant. I quietly fill him in as he just nods in return. When I finish, he replies plainly “I hope your plan works Poppy, I don’t see how he could make you happy”. “Me either, way too serious”, I smile with a little laugh, but then I think for a moment about the man I have just spoken to. Unlike the Judah I had previously known, well more what I had heard of him, he wasn't serious.... he was almost playful. I shake my head, attempting to rid my mind of his stupid goofy smile. I meet up with my sister and Peter, catching up and chatting together before she has to return home. Jacob and I then enjoy the rest of the party together, dancing and messing around, but I can feel Judah’s eyes on me the whole night.... this is going to be a long week.
