Unfortunate Love; Married to the Devil Prince

Not everything is as it seems.

The king just stood there not knowing what to say or do next. His son had come to show him his bride but left as soon as they came. What could be so urgent to make his son do that?, he thought or… keleon must have said something to annoy him.

The king knew that neither of them ever agreed on anything, so he was sure Keleon must have done something or said something to annoy him.

“Your Majesty.”

Queen Calista, who was standing by the corner finally spoke up after the awkward silence.

The king turned to look at her but didn’t say anything. He walked to a seat and signalled to the guard by the door to come. The guard hastily approached him.

“Tell the messenger to send word to Prince Alaric, telling him that I need to see him urgently. And he should come with his wife.”

The king told the messenger.

“Yes, your majesty.”

Then the guard left immediately after the king finished speaking.

Queen Calista just stood there like a shadow, that is how the king had always seen and treated her throughout their marriage. She had gotten used to it by now. She cast a glance at him and after some time she bowed and left. Leaving the king alone in the hall.

What a smart son I have’ the king thought to himself, his son has now married a princess from a respectable kingdom as he had heard.

These are clearly signs of a great leader, maybe the one in the prophecy.

Sitting alone on his chair, he smiled deeply to himself. His life was fulfilled. But how dare Keleon offend Alaric on his wedding day? ‘ I would make him pay’. The king sat there filled with thoughts in his own world.

The carriage has been moving for some hours now and it was already getting late. This was not a safe time to travel again especially with a new bride in the carriage.

Ever since they left the other kingdom Nyx's mind was still in chaos, only today she had met two of her husband’s brothers but none of them seemed to be on good terms with each other.

In her own kingdom, her two stepsisters hated her, but not as much as the hate between these two brothers she had seen today.

Then she remembered her father’s word

‘Your husband has too many enemies, especially from his family. Being his wife you just gained new enemies, even though you are innocent.’

So she just bagged two new enemies she almost laughed out of frustration.

First, her husband decides to shut her out, and she meets one of his brothers at her kingdom who offers them a gift but he refuses it. Then they meet another one who taunts them with words and her husband just drags her out like a doll.

Then she decides to ask questions, but is answered with a death stare. ‘Could today get any worse?’ She thought to herself.

As soon as she finished saying that her stomach rumbled. Nyx looked down at her stomach in embarrassment, why did her stomach have to rumble now? Anyways she was very hungry. Thank goodness Abigail made sure she ate breakfast this morning if not she would have fainted from hunger.

Alaric heard the sound of her stomach rumbling, he turned over and looked at her, then he asked her.

“Are you hungry?”

“No.”

Nyx replied almost immediately. Why did he care if she was hungry after he had just shut her out and warned her? She didn’t want him to pity her.

But her stomach betrayed her it rumbled again, this time louder than the last time.

Alaric chuckled, his wife was not only bold, but she was also stubborn-headed.

“Your stomach doesn’t seem to agree with you.” He said.

Nyx bit her lower lip, refusing to say another word. What more could she say now if she spoke again her stomach might rumble again and she didn’t want that.

“Hold on a bit. There is an inn around, they should have food, we would stop by.”

Alaric continued to talk.

What should she say? Should she say thank you?. No she would not. He was her husband so he should be the one responsible for her entire life from the moment he married her. She thought to herself.

So she continued to bite her lower lip, until she tasted something in her mouth. Blood!!! She nearly screamed. She has already injured herself.

She had to pretend nothing happened. But Alaric noticed it , nothing goes unnoticed when Alaric is there.

“I said hold on a bit, but you decide to eat your lips instead.”

He said like he was talking to a child, as he brought out his handkerchief.

Nyx's eyes almost bulged out from their sockets, how could he think she eats her lips when she is hungry? Oh my goodness this prince is weird she thought to herself.

“I..I… didn’t do it intentionally.”

She said to defend herself.

“Here… Wipe off the blood stain before someone thinks I did that to you.”

Alaric said as he handed her the handkerchief. Nyx grabbed it from his hands without saying anything, then used it to wipe her lips.

“Leo!”

Immediately he called out that the carriage had come to a halt. Then a reply followed.

“Yes, your highness.”

“Is the inn insight?”

“Almost your highness, we are almost there,” Leo replied to him.

“Then hurry up.”

“Yes, your highness.”

Then the carriage started moving again, this time a bit faster than before.

Nyx finished wiping the blood from her lips and was contemplating whether or not she should return the handkerchief to the owner.

Asif sensing her contemplations, Alaric spoke.

“You should keep it with you …. Who knows you might bite your lip again. “

This time Nyx could only pray silently that they arrive at the inn soon enough, so she can escape this weird prince who thinks she eats her lips.

“Your highness.. we are here” Leo’s voice came through.

“We have arrived at the inn, your highness”.
