The Collision

Rose watched with alert and wary eyes as her daughter talked to the man who she assumed was Marcus. She could tell by Vivian's body language that she was still scared and nervous, but she resisted the urge to interrupt them. Vivian was no longer a child and Rose trusted that she could handle herself. What Rose couldn't handle, though, was her own emotions. Unlike her daughter, Rose was not able to just bottle up her emotions. When Rose had set out to meet with her daughter for a meeting, she had not planned to get into a high-speed chase that ended with the death of multiple people. Rose was so caught up in her thoughts, that she did not notice when Vivian was done chatting with Marcus. “Mom, mom. Wake up mom,” Vivian shouted, her teeth on edge as she kept knocking on the window of the driver's side. She had tried to open the car door only to realize that her mom had locked all the doors. “What?” Rose asked. The sound of her daughter's desperate calls finally shocked her of her thoughts. “Oh sorry.” She apologized with a flushed face as she quickly unlocked the door. “Thanks.” Vivian opened the door and stepped in. The moment she closed the door, her clenched fists opened and her face lightened. She took a deep breath and exhaled. “That was intense,” Vivian thought with a sigh of relief. She took a side glance at her mom who was staring at her with raised eyebrows. By the time Vivian was done talking with Marcus about their new business partnership, it was evening. It was only when Vivian began to notice that the day was becoming darker that she decided to leave. Before she left, Marcus made her promise to come and see him the next day. The details of her partnership with Marcus still needed to be ironed out later, but Vivian was sure that she had made the right choice by accepting his deal. Though the thought of losing executive control of her company still pained her. “Can we go home now Vivian?” Rose turned around to face her daughter and Vivian’s heart melted when she saw the tear-filled eyes of her mom. She had been so focused on herself that she had forgotten the toll all of these must have had on her mom. “Yes we can.” Vivian placed her hand on her mom’s and squeezed. She had been expecting her mom to ask her questions about everything, but she could tell that her mom was too tired for anything else. “I’ll take you home now Mom.” Vivian muttered, smiling when she saw the expression on her mom’s face relaxing. The drive to her childhood home was silent. Neither Vivian nor Rose were willing to talk about the awful day that they had. Vivian spent the entire drive sneaking glances at the side-view mirror, trying to see if she could spot the bodyguards that were arranged for her by Marcus. Marcus had informed her earlier that he was going to have two teams of guards on her at all times in order to protect her. Vivian had objected to his offer at first, but Marcus ended up convincing her that it was necessary for her survival. “We are here,” Vivian said, smiling as she took in the familiar sight of her childhood home. This was the first time that she had driven here in years. “Mom.” Vivian said, frowning as she turned around to look at the passenger side of the car and saw her mother sleeping. When she saw how serene the expression on her mom’s face was, a gentle smile began to spread across Vivian’s face. She opened her door and walked around the car. Vivian had to drag her mom into the house, and even had to ruffle around her purse for the house keys. When Vivian left the house though, she left it with a smile on her face and a relaxed mind. *** Throughout the ride back home, Vivian tried multiple times to spot any of the guards that Marcus told her were now securing her, but she was still not able to spot any of them. She was even beginning to doubt if there were even any guards. “Well, there’s no need to spend time thinking about it. I will find out when I meet with him tomorrow.” Vivian thought, she was almost home now and could finally relax. Vivian's smile slowly turned into a frown as she drove her car into the driveway of her house and spotted her husband’s car parked in the driveway. “Why the hell is he home?” Vivian thought as anger began to rise inside her. Vivian knew she had made it clear to both of those traitors that she never wanted to see either of them again, so what the hell was he doing in her home? With the scowl still on her face, Vivian parked her car beside his and stepped out. Vivian had come home because she thought it would finally be a place for her to rest. But if he was going to be in there and start another fight, she was going to call the police. With that thought in mind, Vivian took out the wad of files filled with incriminating evidence with her. She also took her phone out of her pulse. and walked towards the front door of her home. She opened the door and stopped the moment she stepped in. “Damien is not alone, Vicky was there too,” Vivian thought. She could smell Vicky’s perfume so she immediately knew that her sister was around. The scowl on Vivian’s face turned into an impassive smile as the rage continued to build up in her. “How dare those traitors?” Vivian thought as she closed the door behind her with a bang. The loud sound of the door closing echoed across the entire home. Vivian felt the place grow still before she began to hear footsteps coming down the stairs. “Oh good. The witch is back home,” Vicky said as she gazed down at Vivian with a condescending smile.
