Amelie hesitated for a while, then asked Leon what type of job he was offering her.
Leon assures Amelie it is just a simple job. "You don't have to do much, I don't need employees. I just need your loyalty."
Leon thought Amelie wasn't well-educated, so she didn't want to give her a major position in the company. And he wanted her to be close to him.
Amelie was confused about what he meant by loyalty. She asked him how she was supposed to be loyal.
Leon explained that he needed someone he could trust to handle his daily activities at home and in the office. “I want you to be my personal assistant. You will be by yourself every time, and I will pay you any amount you want.”
Amelie's eyes widened at the mention of money. He could be living for free, doing nothing and still be paid.
After much thought, Amelie accepts the job. “I will work for you, but on one condition.”
“What is it?” Leon asked with curiosity.
Amelie said with a smile on her face, “You will never shout or insult me again.”
Leon hesitated but accepted. He was pleased in his heart. He was interested in knowing more about Amelie by having her around him.
The next morning, Leon left very early for work. He didn't even get to see Amelie before leaving.
When Leon got to the company for the board meeting. Everyone was already seated in their positions waiting for him. The meeting started immediately and he sat down.
Theo started a present on the idea he had for an investment. After presenting, some board members seemed satisfied with his presentation, but it was left for Leon to decide.
Leon locked eyes with Theo, he knew this was Theo's trap against him.
Theo wanted Leon in a tight corner. If Leon agrees to the investment, he will use it to emulate money from the company using Leon's name and signature. If Leon refused the investment, he assured him of picking on him because he was an illegitimate son.
Leon rejected the contract. “This contract is not in alignment with the company policies and goals.”
The board members didn't protest because no one dared question Leon's authority. He had the final say in the company.
Theo's face twisted as he questioned and blamed Leon for rejecting the contract because he was an illegitimate son.
"Why did you reject such a good investment? It is clear everyone liked the idea, and it will benefit the company."
Leon was not bothered by Theo's statement. He stood up from his chair, walked to Theo, and locked eyes with him, giving him a cold and threatening stare.
"You want me to accept the investment, and let you emulate money from the company."
Theo denied that was never the intention. "You are just trying to bully me, don't accuse me falsely. I'm just trying to make our father grow and be the best."
Theo was trying to gain sympathy from the board members.
Leon, being a man of few words, did engage in an argument with Theo. He gave him a straight warning.
"Don't you dare question my authority again. If you do, I will forget the promise I made to my father and throw you out of this company."
Before Leon's father died, he made a promise to him to accept Theo into the company. But Theo wanted more than just acceptance, he wanted ownership.
Theo locked eyes with Leon. "We'll see who will leave the company, watch out for what is coming."
Leon laughed at Theo's confidence, because he knew only death could keep him out of the company and even if he dies, the company will go to who he wills it to.
He decided to give Theo a test of his own medicine. "You can never gain access to his company. Be careful, with your small shares, you will be out of this company in no time."
Theo didn't back down. “I will show you an illegitimate son can be better than a legitimate son.”
Leon gave him a cold look. “But he will always be an illegitimate son, nothing can change that.”
Theo's face twisted in anger, he hated being referred to as the illegitimate son.
