CHAPTER 005
EIVINA'S POINT OF VIEW
"Rytis I spent the entire night searching for a lawyer to sue my husband for not flirting with men. I needed to find a lawyer who could help me sue my husband,” I said with an unintended edge to my voice. Fear stuck with me as a dark shadow from before, but he somehow made me feel protected despite the fact he's being an absolute jerk.
His eyebrows rose a bit while his mouth formed an expression that mixed a smirk with a grimace. Do I have no other options to locate a lawyer?
His question intensified my existing anger into a full-blown rage. I refused to acknowledge him while my arms locked across my chest to prevent myself from attacking him. Humiliation and frustration produced a burning sensation across my entire face. He had no right to judge me from his position of ignorance about my situation.
He grumbled about my interactions with multiple men while his jaw clenched as if he was suppressing something.
What business is it of yours that I chose to speak with? I responded sharply while my voice escalated as I pivoted and headed toward the building. The irritation that colored my tone remained obvious to the listener. This information doesn't concern you, Rytis.
His footsteps followed me with a relentless rhythm. He made it clear he would not drop the matter.
Do you really have to meet every man available until you discover what you want? Through the clipped tone of his voice, each single word attacked my already hurt pride directly.
I turned to face him while my eyes narrowed. “What? No! I had not committed any wrongdoing. I was just talking to them.”
He released a deep breath while his gaze fixed on my eyes. I sensed something but couldn’t identify it because I lacked the energy to investigate further.
Upon arriving at the building, I increased my speed to create space between us. I didn't want anyone else to spot us together because that would lead to whispers. The attendees showed no interest because they were deeply involved with their personal chats.
A voice thundered through the room's background chatter to request everyone's attention. I stopped moving and turned my eyes toward the stage. It is time to officially initiate tonight’s event by bringing our honored guest, Rytis Adomas, onto the dance floor.
The room focused its attention on Rytis when the spotlight revealed him. My stomach twisted. I moved backward to hide among the people, but his hand closed around mine before I could escape.
I tried to say, “Rytis, don’t,” but my voice failed me when he pulled me closer.
As he guided me toward the room's center, the murmurs around us intensified. My heart raced. Why was he doing this?
I became rigid when he pulled me to his chest with one hand on my waist and the other holding my hand. His warm touch spread through my skin which unleashed a visceral reaction I detested. My stomach felt like a nest of butterflies unfolded while memories of our shared night pushed through my thoughts.
I clenched my teeth to force the memory from my mind. This wasn’t the time.
He whispered to me that I was tense while keeping his voice soft enough for me to hear alone.
I whispered to myself about the crowd's attention while my gaze shifted to the women who watched me from the sidelines. I felt their jealousy as though it were tangible because I sensed their hostility through the surface of my skin.
He let his humor linger, but behind it hid an undercurrent that forced me to go along with him.
I obeyed his lead as our graceful and intentional dance movement unfolded together. Surrounding music engulfed us while he turned me outward before drawing me toward his direction. He gripped my waist with his hand while his fingers spread across my lower back.
The closeness between us produced an overwhelming sensation. His strong scent merged with his body heat while his eyes maintained their unwavering gaze, which became more than I could handle.
“Why dance with me?” I posed my question, but the music drowned out my voice..
His focused green eyes studied mine with an intense, unreadable expression. He moved closer until his lips touched my ear instead of responding.
He leaned close to whisper that every other woman at the party was trouble, which sent a chill through my body.
Trouble. Did he mean to compliment me by calling me trouble?
He stepped back a small distance while his eyes continued to fixate on me throughout this suspenseful moment.
His unexpected question floated effortlessly out of his mouth, "How is your relationship with your husband?" despite his natural tone suggesting indifference while carefully examining my response.
I felt the force of the question slam into me like a slap. Domantas. The sound of his name made my stomach flip inside out.
The words "I hate him" escaped my mouth before I could stop them. “He broke my heart. His love and promises, along with everything else about him, lack authenticity.
Rytis’s lips moved into a smirk because my answer seemed to satisfy him.
“Boss!”
The voice cut through our moment sharply, bringing both of us back to reality. I felt my chest constrict when I saw Domantas approaching us with a fake look of outrage on his face.
He declared to the crowd that Eivina was his wife. She wants to exploit you to achieve what she desires for herself. Her promiscuous behavior is the reason I am filing for divorce.
The room fell silent.
Pervasive eyes surrounded me with oppressive judgment.
Domantas pointed at her while his hand moved in dramatic motions. She spent the entire night flirting with multiple men. She’s shameless.”
My veins burned with anger as I faced him while my voice shook with fury. “You shameless man—”
Domantas pointed at her neck and demanded attention to the visible marks. “Marks from another man!”
I reached for my neck, feeling a surge of heat spread across my face as I comprehended his words. The makeup I applied to hide the hickeys had worn away.
Aurelija moved forward before I could speak, and her voice rang out sharply. As Eivina’s sister, I can verify her loose reputation. Rytis should avoid her at all costs.
My eyes locked onto hers while tears threatened to spill but remained unshed.
Aurelija is the loose one here; I shot back with my voice breaking. Domantas and you both made the mistake here.
The crowd first sucked breath in unison, then started murmuring. Groans became increasingly audible over time.
She has no right to blame her husband.
“She’s disgusting.”
My chest constricted while the space around me felt like it was shrinking. Their judgment felt unbearably heavy on me, but I stood resolute.
“These marks?” Rytis spoke into the chaos and took control of everyone’s attention.
A soft and controlled touch traced lines through my skin as his fingers made contact with my neck. I leaned into him involuntarily as a shiver ran through my body.
He stated firmly that he created these marks. “So what’s the problem?”
Every sound went silent when everyone remained shocked together.
Domantas flushed deeply while his gaze shifted back and forth between Rytis and me.
Rytis pulled me closer while repeating, "These are my marks." He wrapped his arm around my waist while his lips touched my ear, which sent a wave of heat through my body.
The audience watched me while their soft murmurs faded beneath the pounding of my heart.
Domantas retreated one step while maintaining an expression that revealed nothing.
What was he going to do next?
