Richard comes in the motel door with Danny in his arms. I give him an amused look and continue putting things away.
"He started to get tired on the way back. He was fine all the way up until that point," Richard says as he lays Danny on the bed.
"How'd it go today? Any luck?"
"Noone is hiring right now but everyone that I talked to took my number for when they get an opening," Richard huffs out as he walks over to me.
His arms wrap around my body as he kisses my neck, "How'd the shopping trip go?"
"It was good. The store isn't far from here and it won't be too far away from us when we move into the new house. Maybe I could get a second job there."
"No," Richard says a little too loud.
"Shhh. You are going to wake the kids up," We look over at Danny and Lanas' sleeping form. Lana stirs for a couple of seconds but falls back asleep.
"I don't want you to have to work two jobs. I'll find a job. I promise. I'll make this right," His voice a pleaded whisper in my ear. I let out a defeated sign and turn back to the counter, "Okay. If that's what you want."
"Please have some faith in me."
"I do. I just want things to be back to normal. I want us to be normal," I say adding emphases on the word 'us'.
"It will. I promise. I'll make things right again."
"Not to change the subject but... Tomorrow's Thursday and I'd like to take the kids to that little diner down the road. Just have some family bonding time before Friday. You and I both know Friday we're going to be slammed with packing and checking out of the motel in time. And over the course of the next couple of months, we're going to be busy getting the house situated. We got the house cheap for a reason. It's gonna be rough with the kids starting school and..."
"Honey... Breathe," Richard says as he rubs his hands up and down my arms in a soothing manner, "Yes we can take the kids to the diner."
"I'm sorry. I guess I'm just overthinking a little."
"A little? Honey, you're stressing out. I can tell. Just give it some time. We'll get through this together."
After our little talk, Lana wakes up wanting her little candies and to watch my little pony. She sings every song that plays as she has watched every episode over and over again. Danny wakes up a half-hour later wanting to watch something else causing them to fight over the remote.
Richard has fallen asleep leaving me to deal with the screaming kids.
"Okay, that's enough. If you two can't agree to take turns or settle on something you both like then I'll take the remote and no one will watch anything. Am I making myself clear?"
I hear a 'Yes mommy' from Lana and a 'Yes mom' from Danny. Shortly they start watching TV together, laughing like they weren't just fighting. I shake my head at the pair. One minute they hate each other and the next minute they love each other.
I continue my work on my husbands' laptop.
You see I was in college when I met Richard. When I got pregnant with Danny I dropped out and started focusing on our future.
I realized I didn't have to give up on my dream just because I'm married with two kids. So, over the summer I decided to finish my classes.
With sympathy from the board, and telling them I'll pay off the loans if I finish where I left off, they let me come back. I'll only have two months to go before I become a licensed real-estate agent WITH the skills to flip houses. Not only will I be remodeling houses for a living for customers but I'll also get the chance to sell houses for others and get a big commission from it.
Richard has been a lawyer for a while now and he knows what he's doing, but I'm afraid he's never going to get a job as a lawyer again. I don't know how to tell him that but he's hell-bent on becoming a lawyer here. I just don't know what to do. He loves the work he does, well... did, but I can't support us by myself. I love Danny and Lana so much and I want to give them a good childhood. I don't want them to feel neglected.
"Mommy, you're doing that thing again," Lana says with a giggle.
"And what am I doing?" I say as I put the laptop away.
"Staring into space again," Lana laughs. "You look like this," she makes a weird face, laughing again.
"Stop laughing. It's not funny. Mom is really stressed out and you are not helping," Danny scolds.
Lana sticks her tongue out at Danny. He smacks her arm causing Lana to yelp.
"Hey, don't hit your sister," I say as Lana slaps Danny on the leg, "Lana, don't hit your brother."
Danny pulls Lana's hair as she starts hitting him repeatedly. I jump up from the table and rush over to them, pulling them apart.
"That's it. You two are grounded. No more TV," I say as I turn the TV off, "Both of you are going to bed. It's past your bedtime anyway."
Both of them climb under the covers and close their eyes. Before I can change my clothes into my pajamas they're already asleep.
I look at the clock again.
11:42 P.M.
I sign as I climb into bed. I switch the bedside lamp off and snuggle closer to Richard. I let my thoughts run wild as I slowly drift off.
_____
Richards' P.O.V. Thursday Morning
I wake up to the sound of Sandy calling out my name.
"Richard," Her annoyed voice fills my eardrums.
"Hmmm," Is all I can muster at the moment.
"Will you get Danny out of the bath while I run down to the car?"
"Yeah," barely getting the word out of my mouth before I start to fall asleep again.
"Richard!"
"I'm up. Go do what you have to do." With that said, Sandy closes the door behind her and I find myself getting extremely comfy on this bed.
I stir awake yet again to Sandy's loud and irritated voice booming through the room. I barely understand what she's saying with all the groggy feelings I'm having right now. All I catch is bits and pieces.
"...Are you doing Richard... Out of the bath... What if he had drowned..." That line right there made me jump into a sitting position.
" Richard, I asked you to get Danny OUT OF THE BATHTUB AND YOU WENT BACK TO SLEEP?!?! WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM?!?!
"Mom, it's okay. I'm fine. See?" Danny walks over to Sandy with his towel wrapped around him. I hear her sign and then sit down in the chair.
"I know Danny. I just worry about things like this sometimes," Sandy says as Danny hugs her.
I stand up and stretch, a loud yawn escapes as I start walking towards the bathroom.
"I'm gonna take a shower and get ready. Will you get the kids ready while I shower?" I ask Sandy as I cut the corner.
"Yes, dear. Anything for you..." She calls back. I'll tell you one thing, she may be a pain in the butt sometimes but she's good to me and the kids.
After I take a fifteen-minute shower and get dressed, I come out of the bathroom where everyone's waiting for me.
"Mommy I'm hungry," I hear Lana whine as I open the door.
"I know baby. We're getting ready to leave. Okay?" Sandy softly says.
"I'm ready. Let's go eat," Lana squeals as the runs ahead. of us. Sandy turns and leaves the room without even looking at me. I know she's mad but I was tired after the day I had yesterday.
Sometimes I feel like she doesn't believe in me. I've been busting my butt trying to find a job and it seems like every time I turn around she's talking about getting more jobs so she can support us. We're supposed to be a team.
I just want us to be happy.
With a sigh, I close the door behind me and go to the car. Sandy already has the kids in the car and is buckled up herself.
It's silent between us the whole ride there. Even when we walk into the diner Sandy doesn't talk to me. She can't stay mad at me forever.
Lana runs over to a booth with a window so she can look outside while she eats. Lana and Danny sit on the inside while Sandy and I sit on the end seats.
The waiter comes over to the table with four menus in hand. She passes them out and reaches into her shirt pocket, pulling out a pen and a note pad.
With a click of her pen, she asks, "What can I get you to drink today?"
"I'll have a coke," I say as I look over at Sandy.
"I'll have a water please," Sandy says as she flips through the menu.
"I want a coke," Danny Answers.
"I want a... a big cup of orange juice," Lana whispers to Sandy.
"She'll have a small cup of orange juice," Sady says to the waiter, Lana whines in return.
"But mommy, I wanted a big cup."
"And I know you won't finish a big cup," Sandy replies without taking her eyes off the menu.
She knows our little girl well. She never finishes a small cup of anything. She either spills it or leaves it for Sandy to throw away.
The waiter returns with our drinks and asks, "Are you guys ready to order, or do you need more time?"
"No, I think we're ready. I'll have the biscuits and gravy platter with hashbrowns."
"I'll have the fried eggs and sausage with the gravy and biscuits separate. I hate when the biscuits sit in the gravy for too long," Sandy closes her menu and slides it to the edge of the table.
"Lana, what do you want?" I say as I take their menus and place them on top of the others.
"I want pancakes. Oh, with lots of butter and lots of syrup," Lana fidgets as she talks to the waiter.
"I want what dad is getting," Danny says without taking his eyes off the scenery outside.
As the food arrives my phone starts going off.
"I'm sorry but I need to take this. It could be a job offer," I grab my phone and head to the back of the diner where the bathrooms are at.
I answer the call, "Hello?"
"Good morning sir. Am I speaking to Mr. Sawyer?"
"Yes, that is I."
"I'm Mr. Eddon at Pattensons firm. I'm calling about the job application you submitted last June for the lawyers' position? Are you still interested in the position?"
"Um..." No, don't freeze up. You need this job, "Yes I'm still interested in the job."
"Okay. Well, we shall set up an appointment for an interview. Let's say... next Tuesday at nine in the morning? Does that work for you?"
"Yes. That's perfect," I say a little too eager.
"Okay. Then it's settled. I'll see you next Tuesday."
"Yes sir. Thank you sir for this amazing opportunity," The line goes dead so I hang up the phone and place it in my pocket.
"Hey," a familiar voice calls. I turn to see the waiter from earlier approaching.
"Hey, is everything okay?"
"It is now. So was that your wife and kids back there," She unbuttons one button on her shirt.
"Uh... No... That's my sister and her two kids," I lie. I put my hands behind my back and slowly slip my wedding ring off and stick it in my back pocket.
"Good because I haven't gotten any in weeks. Normally I wait until after my shift is up but I don't have any tables to wait on and I saw you come back this way so..." She grabs my now growing bulge as she presses herself up against me.
"Are you always this direct."
"Yes. I go after what I want and right now I want you in my mouth," She says as she takes my fingers and starts sucking on them.
"I'm sorry. I have to go," I quickly walk back to the table and sit down.
"What took you so long."
"I got a job interview next Tuesday at nine," My smile could be seen from outer space are now.
"Oh my gosh, honey. That's great. Which store called you back?"
"Well... It wasn't a*****e that called me. It was for another lawyers' position..."
"A lawyers position? Where is a firm around here?" Sandy's face scrunches up with confusion.
"You see, that's the thing. It's The Pattenson Firm and..."
"Honey, we just moved away from that area because of everything that happened. We literally sold everything to get away from there. Why would you want to go back?"
I slam my fist on the table making all of them jump, "It's a job okay. You should be happy I have an interview, not sitting here bitching at me," I get up from the table and walk out the back door of the restaurant.
Standing by a Jeep, I see the waiter from before. I approach her, without a second thought my lips are crashing into hers. She gets out a small moan before pulling away.
"Change your mind stud?"
My only reply was kissing her again. Since my wife doesn't seem to care about me then she won't care about what I do. I'm tired of not being appreciated by my own family.
"Let's go somewhere a little more private," She pulls away from me.
"Baby this is private. Get in," She pulls the back door open for me. I slide in and she climbs in beside me, closing the door. She starts to undo my belt but I stop her.
"Wait. I don't want anyone to walk out here and see us," She leans in and nips my ear before touching my bulge through my pants.
"Don't worry. The windows are tented. No one can see in here," Her fingers make their way into my pants where she starts stroking my manhood. I close my eyes shut when she starts bobbing her head. It's been so long since any woman has ever done this. Even Sandy. She never touches me.
"Do you like that baby?" She hums.
"Yes, I do."
She stops and climbs on top of me. Her legs on either side of me. She slowly slides the tip in. She's so wet I can tell she was just begging to do that. Her weight drops and all of me slides into her.
(And that just happened Love. I'll edit this to make it better in the future. It's currently 4 A.M. where I'm at so it's time for bed. I try to update the story every two days.)
