We did not wait until Thursday to start renovations to my house because we figured it was going to take a long time to clean and do all the paintings, so when the morning came, we took our behinds inside Junior’s car and went to the market to do some shopping for supplies.
I decided to get black and white paint for my parents-turned-mine room and royal blue for the other two rooms. After getting paints and brushes and cleaning materials, which Andrew paid for, we headed back home just for me to find Grey in front of my gate.
My only guess was that either Junior or Andrew would have called him so I didn’t even try to ask. I only smiled and waved a greeting at him and opened the door to step inside. After all, we needed extra hands and I'm not in any position to choose.
"So what’s the plan?" He asked once we dropped the load we carried from the car in the middle of the living room.
"Well, we would start with Dee’s parents' room and clear it out, take their stuff to the store room at the backyard and clean up the place." Junior stated, "When we are done, we are going to paint the room and move Dee’s stuffs in there."
"Why are we moving her stuffs there? What is the occasion?"
"We’re renting out the rooms...ow!" Andrew screamed as I stomped on his foot.
"Thank you, Drew. Why don't you tell the whole neighborhood too?" I glared at him and he muttered an apology.
"So you weren’t going to tell me? What the hell, Dee!" He yelled and I rolled my eyes because I wondered why he was the pissed one.
"Do you think you deserve to know?" I raised a brow at him.
"What's your problem with me? You’ve been acting like a b***h since your grandmother died." And that struck a nerve in my body.
"Why shouldn’t I?"
"Look, I know you loved her but isn’t taking it out on me a bit too much?" His voice softened.
"Is it? Why shouldn’t I?" I pressed on.
"Just stop. I'm sorry OK? I really am."
I sighed. Truth be told, I wasn't going to be angry at him forever. I wasn't even angry anymore, I realized I was just foolish during the time away from him.
"I'm sorry too, that you're a w***e and that I was too blind to see it." I turned on my heels and headed towards my parents room, "And I have nothing against you. I'm only reacting based on your actions. I'm happy you're here to help though."
We started with the clothes in my parents wardrobe and I decided I would give them to the beggars on the street.
We didn’t have much to clear out as my parents didn’t have many things to begin with. They always liked the simple life and always said we don’t take things to the grave. All we had to do now was take out the bed and start painting.
"Why did you pick black though? Isn't it a bit too..." Grey voiced out his confusion.
"A bit too what?" I moved to stand on the stool so that I could clear the cobwebs in the corners. Grey and Andrew were doing a good job with sweeping and Junior was cleaning the windows. I liked the way we were moving at a fast pace and at this rate, we would be done before Friday leaving me enough time to get ready for work Saturday.
"Dark? Weird?"
"Dude, is this the first time I'm doing something weird?" I raised my eyebrow at him.
"You got me there. You're a walking state of confusion. Then again, I don’t think black is going to look great."
"Well, it's my room and that’s what I want. Also, it's going to look great." I stuck my tongue out at him.
"Let's bet on it." Junior pitched in and I frowned.
"You just like showing me you have money. Okay, 10 thousand."
We laughed and got the paints ready after Andrew announced that they were done with their chores.

We stood back to admire our work and I had to admit, my room looked f*****g awesome. I was actually afraid of the end result and that I would have to pay Junior 10 thousand out of my broke account, even though I knew I wouldn't have to, but looking at this, I should be a f*****g painter from now on.
"Guess you owe me ten thousand naira now buddy." I patted his back and wiggled my eyebrows at him while he rolled his eyes.
Of course my room wasn’t completely black, even though I wanted it to but I am afraid of the dark so it was a bad idea. The wall where my bed would be was the only wall we painted white while the rest were black. I had done an art work in white paint against the black walls and also drew music notes.
"Well, it turned out okay for black" Andrew commented and I nodded, "Now we wait for it to dry so we can move your things in here."
"What's the time?" I asked, hoping it wasn’t too late for us to clear out the other rooms.
"Uh...3pm" Grey showed me his watch.
"We can still clear out the other rooms before we have lunch right?"
"Sure, I'm surprised you aren’t tired." Junior rubbed my shoulders.
"Are you trying to say painting is gender specific?" I questioned.
"Let's go and clear the other rooms." He ignored my accusation and left the room in a hurry.
It wasn't that easy to clear out my room and my grandmother's room due to my numerous things and me breaking down in my grandmother's room a few times but we finally did it and we started cleaning them right away.
As soon as the paint got dried, we moved my things into my parents' room. After folding clothes into the wardrobe and arranging my novels on the shelves, we slumped onto my bed with aching muscles and growling stomachs.
"I think we should do the rest tomorrow, right guys?" Andrew groaned into my pillow.
"Absolutely. I'm starving." I whined. My joints were on fire and I really needed a massage.
"Let's use your 10 thousand to buy food." Grey nudged me and I eyed him.
"When I was making the bet, where were you?" I eyed him, "See his mouth like ten thousand. Why don't you drop the money?"
"Don’t worry, I'll pay you back." He smiled that smile that I once used to be attracted to but not anymore, it wasn't swoon worthy again.
"You better, or I'd chop off your balls." I threatened him.
"Well since we're doing this, what do you wanna eat?" Junior stood up from the bed.
"It's been long I've eaten pizza, let's get that." Andrew sat up and I nodded in agreement.
"Pizza it is then. I'll be back in a few minutes." Junior said and grabbed his keys, leaving us three to soak in that new paint smell.
"He better not eat part of it before he comes back or he's dead meat." I muttered and stood up to get water to drink from the kitchen.
I used that time to reflect on my decisions like whether I was doing the right thing by renting the rooms out. Who would the tenants be? What's their gender going to be? I have must have been lost in my thoughts for so long because I heard Junior call my name from wherever he was to tell me that he is back with the pizza and drinks.
"Wow, you got three boxes of pizza…I know you added money for that." I gasped when I entered my room and saw heaven on my bed.
"Don’t think I'm giving you the money for that." Grey gave me a serious look.
"Then don’t eat it, it's not by force." I smiled sweetly while batting my lashes at him.
"You're a manipulating b***h, you know that right?" He groaned and sat down to grab a slice.
"I know baby." I replied and opened my bottle of Sprite and Andrew laughed at Grey as he grumbled more.
