Chapter 9

2627 Words
The car I was in was luxurious enough that it was almost like a limousine. The driver looked Asian but it was hard to tell. He got out of the car and opened my door when they picked me up and I got a good look at him. He was about as tall as Brooks and built like a brick wall. I couldn’t see his eyes, which put me on edge a little. He hadn’t smiled or frowned or even spoke the entire time I was in his company. He smelled of blood not fear, which is what the escort sitting beside me reeked of under her perfume. Now she was a different story, she hadn’t shut up as soon as the door shut. Her name was Destiny and she was twenty-seven. She had been doing this since she was seventeen because both of her parents died and she had a friend in the life. She was about five foot one with bright red hair that wasn’t natural. She had darkened it because her natural color didn’t stand out enough, or so she told me. She had brown eyes and at the moment there was so much excitement packed inside that I thought they might burst. The excitement in her eyes was at odds with the smell of fear emanating from her. I could tell that she had had some work done because her breasts and nose weren’t real. She told me without having to ask that she was a B cup and had them enlarge to attract business. Also, her nose was too big before so she had them make it smaller. I thought that after she told me her life story, she would stop talking but no such luck. She wanted to know why I choose her to accompany me, what my name was, what was going to happen once we got there, if my breasts were real. I had planned on filling her in but she wouldn’t shut her trap. I looked in the rearview mirror as she rambled and saw that the driver was watching me with unusual interest. So, he did have more than one setting. When he noticed that I was looking at him, the car started to slow and pull off the road. “Why are we pulling over?” Destiny had finally stopped staring and talking to me long enough to ask. Without a word he put the car in park and got out. I was curious as to why he would pull over now and not just grill me at the safe house. It was clearly what was on his mind because he came to my door and opened it. “Destiny, would you do me a favor and stay in the car. I believe he wants to talk to me in private. When I get back, I’ll fill you in on what’s going on.” “Ok sure.” I stepped out of the car and moved away from the door enough for him to shut it. I knew he wouldn’t leave me here because of two reasons. One I knew the license plate number of the Lexus he was driving and I knew where to find them. And two because my target was expecting two girls and would kill him and Destiny if it looked like they didn’t respect him enough to cater to his every whim. I was counting on the fact that he cared enough about what happened to her that he would be smart about this. We walked away enough so the blabbering hooker wouldn’t be able to overhear our conversation. “So, I’m assuming that this stop isn’t because you want to get a good look at me. Just tell me whatever it is you have to say and I’ll be polite and listen. I can’t guarantee that I won’t laugh and tell you to shove it but I’ll at least listen.” I wasn’t going to beat around the bush on this. We had maybe two minutes and then we would arrive at our destination late. We were about ten minutes away and we had to be there in fifteen. “I wanted to find out what it is you think your doing. I’m being paid to keep her safe and I believe you need to help me do my job.” “So, you can speak. I hate to tell you this but I don’t care about your job or what you believe I should or should not do. I know you’re no stranger to death. I can smell the blood and death on you. So, here’s the deal, you don’t get in my way and I’ll try to keep you and the bimbo in the car alive.” “That’s not good enough.” “Excuse me? Not good enough? Listen to me well big boy. I don’t give two shits about you or your so-called job. And that little w***e in the car is the last thing that I would consider worth my time and energy. So, this is the only time I will make this offer. If you let me do my job and stay out of my way, I will try to keep her alive. I can’t guarantee that she will remain uninjured or unscarred. As you no doubt know, once you see death and destruction first hand something inside of you dies and everything changes. Now, if that’s not good enough for you then I can snap your neck now and drive us there myself. What’s it going to be?” He looked angry as his jaw locked. I could tell he didn’t like me being in control of this mission and his client’s life. Maybe he just didn’t like to give up control at all. Frankly, I didn’t care what he did or didn’t like. This was my job and I had to make sure that it was completed without losing my crew in the process. If I could avoid losing these two as well then it would be a good day. What I wasn’t going to tell Mr Personality, is that I would try everything within my power to keep them alive so I could kill them myself later. They couldn’t be allowed to live since they have seen my face and know where our safe house is. “I will agree to allow you to do your job and stay out of your way, on one condition.” “You’re not really at liberty to make demands. However, I said I’d listen.” “After you have completed your mission, I would like for you to make her death quick and painless. For myself, I would like to meet with your superior to discussion employment opportunities.” “Well. That’s not what I thought you would say. I can agree to the first part of your request. The second part I can’t agree to unless I speak to my superior.” Without hesitating he handed me a cell phone and without a word returned to stand by the car. I open the little flip phone and dialed the temporary number we used to contact John when we needed to ask him about something while on a mission. The phone rang once and someone picked up. I made sure that I lowered my voice so the man standing by the car couldn’t over hear what was said. “Angel? What’s wrong?” It was John and he sounded worried. “Nothing’s wrong John. I’m safe and uninjured. However, I have run in to a little snag. The escort that I’m riding with has a driver and he’s making a request that I cannot fulfill without your consent. After our mission is complete, he wants me to kill the escort quickly and as painlessly as I can. This is not a problem because I can grant that request. The second part of his request is that he is allowed to live and I bring him with me to the airport to meet you about becoming a part of our organization. I know that he’s killed before and probably multiple times. Other than that, I’m not really sure who he is or anything else about him. What would you like me to do?” “Is he refusing to drive you if his conditions aren’t met?” “He didn’t say that but I believe that’s what he’s thinking.” “Alright. When this is over bring him with you to the airport. I need the description to give to your crew so they don’t kill him. Also, Jason’s fine but unable to shoot. Adam’s taken over his spot.” “I’m glad Jason’s ok. The driver is about Brooks’ height, Asian decent, built like a brick wall. Dark hair buzzed in a military style, wearing sunglasses, no personality, driving a Lexus. That’s about all I can tell you.” “I’ll let them know. Angel, be safe and come home.” “I always do John. Get rid of the phone now. I won’t be calling again.” “I will, see you at the airport and be careful with the driver.” The phone went dead. I turned and closed the phone and started to walk back to the car. The driver was looking at me expectantly with his hands crossed in front of him. My anger was starting to rise because of his cocky attitude. It was time to knock him down a few pegs. “Here’s the deal. My superior is willing to meet with you but there are a few conditions. I already said I’d meet your first condition but with that I choose how it will happen. Secondly, if you double cross me or those, I work for I’ll make sure it’s the last thing you do. The last thing is when you meet anyone from my organization, you’ll do it unarmed. Any questions?” He backed me up against the car door and leaned in as close to me as he could get. I could feel his body under his clothes and tell he was excited. My mind immediately went toward taking care of the bimbo in the car so we could use it. “Sounds reasonable. And just so you know, I may think you are extremely attractive. I wouldn’t mind giving you a try. I bet you make the sweetest sounds and taste even better. But make no mistake, if I believe that you’re going to double cross me then I will kill you.” I put my hand on the center of his chest as he slid his hand to my rear and the other to fist in my hair. Before I could push him away, he pulled me closer forcing my back to bow. His words had sobered my thoughts and my anger was surfacing. He had a small smile playing on his lips as he massaged my rear. He had removed his glasses before he spoke and his light brown eyes were telling me everything I needed to know. From the heat in his eyes and the feel of his body, he was more than extremely attracted to me. I pushed a little harder on his chest and he stepped away. The heat was still in his eyes but the smile was gone. That caused me to smile, as I turned enough to open the car door and slide into the seat. “You could try.” “What was that about?” She couldn’t even wait for me to get the door closed. The driver got in the car and started the engine again. I was beginning to realize that Destiny was the kind of person who was curious to a fault and couldn’t tolerate silence. This was going to be a long ride. The driver just looked in the rearview mirror at me. This guy was stomping on my last nerve. Any bit of attraction that we shared earlier was gone from my mind. After what had transpired at the safe house with my crew right before I left and now the chatty bimbo sitting beside me, I was quickly losing my temper. The driver pulled out as I lost the last thread that held my temper in check. “Ask your man up there. And if you don’t mind shut your mouth. I’m working on my last nerve right now and neither of you are helping matters. I have things to tell you, instructions for both of you, and warnings to deliver so that both of you make it out of this alive. Now, am I going to be able to do that or should I kill you now.” Destiny’s eyes were wide and her mouth was hanging open. It was the first time she had her mouth open without words falling over themselves to be the first one out of the gate. A quick look towards the front of the car confirmed what my senses were trying to tell me. Mr Personality was pissed. I could feel the tension in the car like a pit bull that’s been backed into a corner. I don’t normally like to be mean to someone who’s helping me but my nerves were frayed and raw. There wasn’t much time for me to tell them what needed to be said and these little detours and distractions were using all the time I had. When there were no comments or questions I continued. “Good. I know that Mr Friendly up there isn’t just your driver. He’s a little to protective for just that. I’m guessing some kind of body guard.” I took their silence and the fact that their eyes met for a moment that it was probably a little more than that. I filed it away, just in case I needed it later. Whatever their situation or agreement was, they needed to stay out of my way. We only had about eight or nine minutes to get there before we would be late and my target would be pissed. “Alright. I’ll tell you now that I will do my best to keep both of you alive, but I’m not making any promises. Now we only have a little time before we get there so I’ll run through this as quickly as possible. Destiny, go in like nothing is out of the ordinary. For the time you’re with me, you can call me Grace. I have no intention of having s*x with you or your client, so don’t try. Once everything starts you will need to stay close to me or find a place to hide and stay there. Understand?” “What do you mean you don’t want to have s*x with me? What’s wrong with me?” She stuck on the one comment about s*x and probably didn’t hear anything else I said. “Destiny, I’m warning you. Did you hear anything else that I said?” The anger in my voice seemed to snap her out of whatever selfish place she went. All she could do was snap her mouth shut and nod her head. “Good. Now as for you….” I realized then that I didn’t know his name. “What’s your name anyway?” “Travis.” “Well, Travis.” His name was dripping with sarcasm as I said it. I’m normally not that mean but I couldn’t help myself anymore. “Once we get there, I want you out of my way. You can drop us off then park away from the house, as close to the woods as possible. That way my crew won’t mistake you for one of his guys.”
