My heart hammered inside my ears as Raymond loomed over me.
Through the thick oak panel behind my head, I caught the faint, unmistakable sound of Ramona’s soft chuckle as her footsteps receded down the corridor. I inwardly fumed at the woman. She could clearly see my distress yet chose to leave me at the mercy of her son without a second thought. But whatever anger I held toward my former Alpha matriarch evaporated the second Raymond leaned even closer.
The sensory overload was staggering. The heat radiating off his body flooded the small space between us, wrapping all around me.
