CHAPTER 39 ROGER WAS HAPPY to have got Judy off the council estate. It hadn’t been the best place to live, but now with the money from the sale of his flat he’d been able to put a sizeable deposit down on a semi in a more upmarket street nearby, so that Elliot and Marlon could still go to the same school. He was seemingly getting along well with Judy’s three eldest boys who had accepted his presence in their lives, but the youngest boy was proving to be somewhat of a problem. Elliott hated him with a vengeance. Roger had no intention of trying to take the place of his father, but it would have been a nice start for the boy to give him a civil ‘good morning’ at breakfast instead of the usual grunt, especially as Roger reasoned it was now mostly his own money putting food on the table.
