Chapter 24 Jax was a few hours into his shift at Calhoun’s when Matt Hayes, all decked out in his sheriff’s uniform, took a seat at the bar. Jax wasn’t surprised Matt had stayed in the small town nor had he been surprised that Matt was the sheriff. Matt had always been a rule follower—always been the good side of the fictional tracks. “What can I get you?” Jax asked. “I’m guessing a beer doesn’t go well with the uniform.” Matt laughed. “I’ll take a root beer.” “You got it.” Jax grabbed a pint glass and filled it up with root beer before pushing it across the bar. “Thanks,” Matt said. “I hear you and Kristen had a bit of a shake up.” Jax looked at the sheriff like he’d lost his mind.
