Marry Me

Serena's POV “Serena.” I turned and saw Elliot Vance standing at the entrance of the building. He walked towards me. “I thought I asked you to wait in the garden.” “I've enjoyed the flowers enough. I need to return home.” I answered. “Return home?” He arched a brow, “The soiled suit is yet to be replaced.” My eyes lit up. “Oh, yes! The arm isn't your size. I'll get that fixed.” “Serena, how about you forget about the suit? I will appear insane wearing that kind of suit considering who I am.” I smiled. “You're letting me off the hook? I know you aren't what people say you are!” “There's a way you can redeem yourself more easily.” He said quietly. I peered into his eyes and suddenly felt the chill coming from him. “Are you okay, Mr Vance?” “Come with me.” He took my wrist and pulled me into the house before I could object. The maids stared at us awkwardly. I tried to pull away but he tightened his grip on me. “Mr Vance,” I whispered. “I can walk on my own.” But he said nothing and did not let go until we were back at his office. A middle aged man was standing by the desk. “Take a seat, Serena.” Elliot gestured as he took his seat behind the desk. “Is something wrong?” I asked, standing by the chair. “Take a seat.” Elliot repeated. After a few seconds of hesitation, I sat. “I'm willing to forget the soiled suit and the replacement if you marry me.” The eerie silence that followed was broken by my giggles. “You don't mean that, Mr Vance. If this is a prank, let's not continue. I already told you I'll fix the suit.” “It's not a prank.” He confirmed with a firm voice. I blinked twice. “We'll have a proper marriage but we'll both sign a contract to end it in seven months, after my father's death.” He explained. I rose to my feet. “I'm sorry, Mr Vance, I can't agree to this.” I took the suit and added. “I'll make sure it's your perfect size before returning.” Without waiting for a response, I turned to leave, however, “Ten million dollars.” I stopped. “Ten million dollars, Serena, and a chance to get back at Adrian and Camille Whitmore.” He repeated. I turned to him. “How did you know that?” He stood and took huge strides towards me, while I took steps backwards until I hit the wall. We were only an inch apart. “Does it matter how I know?” He demanded. “You need more than just your running mouth to deal with the Whitmores, and I'm offering you that on a platter of gold.” I stared into his dark eyes. “If you're scared I'll touch you during the marriage, I won't. We can stay in separate rooms if that's what you wish.” He stepped back, the cologne that drifted into my nostrils followed after him. “Why me?” I asked. “There are plenty of pretty, skinny girls out there who would fit your type.” I heard both of them chuckle. Elliot turned to me and said, “And who said they're my type?” He c****d his brow and added, “Besides, you look perfectly okay to me.” “Well?” I lifted my gaze to meet his. “It's okay if you need some time to think it through.” Elliot said, just as the middle aged man handed me a paper. “That contains the agreement you'll be entering into once we sign the contract.” He added, “If there's anything you'll like to clarify you can always contact me. My number is there.” I stared at the piece of paper, still shocked and in a daze. A few seconds later, I was being escorted out. Elliot Vance had his driver take me home. My phone continued to buzz in my bag and when I retrieved it, I realized I had missed several calls from Karen. She would have been worried sick. Since I was close, I didn't bother returning the call. When I arrived, Karen ran out, her face bearing the wrath of a monster. “I know…I know…” I began before she reached me. “I'm so sorry I missed your calls.” “Damn it, Serena! Why the hell do you have a phone if you wouldn't pick up a call?” I placed my arm over her shoulder. “I'm sorry. I must have silenced it accidentally and didn't hear it ringing.” We stepped inside and shut the door behind us. “Well?” She asked blatantly as she served me hot tea. “Seeing you with the bag, it's obvious he didn't accept it.” Karen noted. “Why did you take so long if he didn't accept it?” “We were having a conversation when his father walked in.” I stuttered. “I had to wait in the garden for a while.” “Wait for what exactly? What was the conversation about?” She pressed further. I rose, dropped the empty teacup on the table and said, “Let's talk tomorrow, Karen. I feel so tired.” With that, I escaped into the room and locked the door behind me. I took out the paper and stared at it for a long time. * * * Meanwhile, late into the night, Camille stood behind the Whitmore mansion with a protruding belly, holding onto the man she truly loves. Finn cupped her face and kissed her for the third time that night. When he broke away, Camille whined. Almost close to tears, she complained, “ I can't take this anymore, baby. I want you now. I want you badly.” Finn held his finger to his lips. “Shssh. Hey, I understand baby. Remember we're doing this for our son right?” She nodded hesitantly while still clinging to his neck. “Soon, we'll have just ourselves and we won't hide anymore. For now, we can't afford to make any mistakes.” Finn explained while kissing her neck and then her belly. Camille looked like she'd burst any moment. “Baby, you need to go back in now.” “I don't want to go.” She sobbed. “I miss you so much.” He kissed her again. “Do you want to lose everything we've already worked hard for?” She shook her head. “Good, always remember that.” He added. Camille left with great pain in her heart. She'd rather be with the hot Finn than the boring Adrian who couldn't even satisfy her in bed. Just as Camille left, Finn pulled out his phone and called Karen.
