Elliot

Elliot's POV “Boss!” “Boss!” I felt someone's hand on me. It shook me violently followed by a loud scream. “Elliot Vance!” My eyes were forced open, the light from the drawn curtain nearly blinding my vision. Why was it so bright? “Boss, you've never slept this late!” I opened my eyes again and this time, I recognized Austin. I groaned and sat up on the bed. “What are you doing here?” “I'll show you.” He answered and pulled out his phone. He shoved it into my face. I stared at the home screen, confused. “The time, boss. The time!” It dawned on me then. It was noon. I threw the duvet off me and jolted out of the bed. “How could I have slept that long?” I asked no one in particular as I ran my hands through my hair. “I am surprised. You barely even get enough sleep during the night.” Austin remarked. He was right. “You need to hurry, sir. The doctor has been waiting for you.” “The doctor?” I asked. Austin sighed. “The doctor you wanted to check Serena.” “Ahh…” my words trailed off. “He came so early.” “Because you made it so.” Austin mumbled underneath his breath. “You're always up by six in the morning.” “Have the driver pick Serena up.” I ordered before grabbing my towel and stepping into the bath. As the cold water touched my skin, I was beginning to feel like myself. The last time I slept like a baby this way was when I was still a boy, when I still had my beloved mother beside me. I increased the water from the shower and didn't realize how long I'd stayed under it until Austin's knock forced me out. “What is it?” I pursed my lips. “You're beginning to cross the line these days, Austin.” “Ahh…I'm so sorry boss. You sound more like you now.” “I need to get dressed.” I arched my brow. “Will you stay here with me?” “No, of course not, sir. It's just, Serena isn't home.” I narrowed my eyes. “Where could she be then?” Austin didn't reply. “I'll be right down.” I said as he left. I got dressed in under fifteen minutes and stepped downstairs. After I greeted the doctor I took my phone out and dialed Serena's number but it wasn't reachable. I tried it for a couple more minutes and the result was exactly the same. Could she have fled? Or is she opting out? The second option is not possible but there's only way to figure out the first. I got up and picked up the car keys lying on the table. “Doctor, come with me.” In the next thirty minutes, we were at the entrance to Serena's house. After a minute of knocking with no response, her friend finally opened the door and let us in. “Serena isn't home.” She announced after offering us a drink. “Can you give me her location?” I asked. “I don't know where she went.” She replied. “Your knocking woke me up.” “Oh…” I returned to dialing her number and when I received the same unreachable message for the umpteenth time, I lost it. I finally resigned to waiting. She should step in through that door any moment. My stomach grumbled. I didn't have breakfast, and thanks to Serena I might not have lunch either. It was almost three in the afternoon. The Doctor beside me was growing weary. If he didn't fear me, he'd have definitely found a voice to excuse himself and leave. By five in the evening, I tried her number again and thankfully it went through. I excused myself and stepped outside the house. The conversation did not last a minute. “Serena?” The call ended abruptly. Where could she have been for hours? She's not with Adrian, is she? I returned to the house and continued to wait. An hour passed before Karen came downstairs, all dressed and ready to leave. She checked her watch and turned to me. “It's almost six. Are you going to keep waiting, Mr Vance?” I stared at her and got up from the couch. The Doctor followed suit. “I think I'll leave now.” I paused and added. “Did you and Serena get into a fight?” “Why would you ask that?” “What do you think you're doing getting involved with Finn?” “It's my personal decision, Mr Vance. I'd appreciate it if you stay out of it.” She replied. “I'll give you a position in my company and twenty million dollars.” I offered. “Stay away from him.” But she walked to the door and pulled it open. “No, thank you. You may leave now or I'll be late for my night shift.” Night shift? I wondered about that before leaving. I dropped the Doctor off and apologized. “I'll compensate you for the trouble.” I drove back to the mansion in anger and hunger. What does she think she's doing? Is this her way of getting back at me? She should have known better. Thirty minutes later, I rode into the garage and was heading to the entrance of the house. Austin opened the door for me. “Well, how is she?” “Not now, Austin.” I declined, seething in rage. I'd have to teach her a lesson so she thinks twice before messing with me this way. I've never waited for anyone this long before with nothing to show for it. Not to add that the two day ultimatum ends tomorrow and I did not know what to expect. What if she's found to be infertile? Would my whole life become meaningless because of her? This has to be her plan to bring me down. I must act before… “What?” Austin's sharp tone interrupted my thoughts. He pointed towards the dinner table. I traced his gaze and just then the light came on, revealing the tasty dishes on the table. I got up. Yes, I was famished but the chef never cooks until I say so. What's this about? I moved towards the dinner area and found balloons and decorative elements. The poster on the wall read: ‘WELCOME HOME, HONEY.’ I looked around. “I'm right here.” I turned and saw Serena stepping out of the kitchen with a plate of pasta in her hands. She was dressed in a transparent nightgown and had a hair tied up in a rough bun. “Serena?”
