Serena's POV
Seeing that Elliot had begun calling after the third horn of the car, I expected to find him in it but he wasn't.
I waved goodbye to Karen as the driver sped off.
“Mr Vance didn't come with?” I asked the driver after a moment of silence.
He shook his head. “He's busy.”
“Busy?” I hissed and thought inwardly, coming to pick me up would have made headlines. He should have known that. If we don't make people believe in this relationship how could we convince his father?
I picked up my phone and dialed his number.
“What is it?” He demanded, the moment the call went through.
“Furious already?”
I heard him sigh. “I am busy, Serena. Why are you calling when you're already on your way here?”
“You should have come pick me up yourself, babe.”
A moment of silence passed.
“There's no need to put on an act, we aren't in front of him yet.” He paused and added, “I couldn't let you make me lose it, so I sent the driver instead, and you made him wait for minutes.”
“Tch! You're no husband material!”
He ended the call.
I stared at my reflection through the mirror, I'd indeed changed. The woman staring back at me was certainly not the same one Adrian offered to put in the servant's quarters.
I couldn't wait for the whole world to know about this marriage. I should focus on convincing Mr Vance first.
A few minutes later, we arrived at Elliot's mansion. Although I'd been here, I still marveled at the sight. It was a breathtaking aura on its own and I couldn't get enough.
The driver stepped out and opened the car door. “We're here, ma'am.”
I nodded, clinched my bag, and stepped out. Just as I did, Elliot was waiting at the entrance.
There were housemaids and manservants everywhere tending to the grasses, flowers, fountain side, and even the cars parked in the garage.
Could it be why Elliot kept a happy expression as I walked towards him? Has the acting already begun? Didn't he just reprimand me earlier?
Well, I should go with the flow. I might not know a lot about Elliot, but I'm sure of one thing. He hardly smiles and is always on a cold, solid expression.
Since his expression is far from cold now, that only means the acting has begun.
I reached the entrance and took his outstretched hand.
“I missed you!” I giggled as I threw my arms around his neck. Everyone was looking, this is my chance.
When he straightened up, I tightened my hands around his neck, tiptoed and brought his lips upon mine.
The gasps from everyone around filtered through my ears and it was exactly what I wanted.
Elliot broke the kiss, grabbed my wrist and pulled me into the house. Everyone was busy talking about what they'd just seen that they failed to see his expression turn cold after the kiss.
Oops, did I go too far?
…..
Karen did not need to be told that that was Finn's voice. After struggling with Kelvin's grip, her hair was tousled and her clothes were rumpled. She looked like she'd just stepped out of the lion's den.
“Open up, Karen. I won't leave until I speak to you.” Finn said from outside the door.
Karen turned to Kelvin who immediately said to her, “Do not let him know about my presence.”
She nodded as he sprinted up the stairs. Karen arranged her hair and clothes before opening the door.
“Hi. I'm sorry to disturb you.”
Karen's expression remained unchanged. “What do you want?”
Finn chuckled, he was hurt by her pointed expression but masked it with his laughter.
He walked past her and stopped at the center of the room.
“I kept wondering why you suddenly rejected me…despite getting on well with me from the start…” he paused and continued. “I didn't wonder much because now that I think of it, you're the only woman I actually liked.”
He turned round and met her gaze.
“I was soft with you, Karen. I've never been that way with any woman and you took that for granted.”
Karen didn't like the expression on Finn's face. It appeared like the devil himself about to exert revenge.
She mustered courage and said, “I don't know what you're talking about, Finn. You need to leave.”
“From here on, I dictate what you do Karen. Not the other way round.” He said coldly.
Karen chuckled. “Have you also lost it? I will shout for help if you don't leave right now, Finn.”
Despite her threat, Finn settled on the nearest couch. He looked at her and said, “Go ahead. Shout for help, and you'll never see your brother again.”
Karen was startled. Her eyes widened upon hearing Finn's words. She stepped up to him.
“Where is my brother?”
“Now, you suddenly want to talk to me.” He laughed. “Seems you women like to be coerced.”
“You crazy son-of-a-b***h!” Karen cursed. “What can a cheat like you know about women?”
He rose and grabbed her arm in a fit of rage. “Don't you dare call me that.”
“Let go!”
But his hand tightened even more. He said to her, “You have no idea what I've been through Karen. You should have stayed obedient and all of this could have been avoided.”
“You're hurting me!” She cried and then he let go.
His hands went into his pocket.
“You asked what I wanted earlier,” he said casually. “You, Karen. You and your womb.”
“Never!” Karen rebuffed, eyes filled with tears.
Finn's countenance turned dark. “Winston got lost from your family home years ago after a fire accident, didn't he?”
“You…” Karen gritted her teeth. “How dare you!”
“I know where he is, Karen. In fact, I hold his life in my hands.” He told her despite the tears falling down her face.
“We will get married and you will bear a son for me. Until this is done, you won't get your brother back.”
He paused and added. “Try anything funny, and I'll end his miserable life!”
