Before she could complete her sentence, Kelvin had grabbed her waist and locked her lips in his.
Finn grinned. He couldn't thank Kelvin enough for his help.
Seeing them kissing, Camille had no more doubt. She let Finn take her away.
When Karen acted and pushed Kelvin away, Finn and Camille were already exiting the first floor.
A hot slap dashed across Kelvin's face.
“How dare you!” Karen was mad. She picked up her bag resting on the table and made to leave but Kelvin stopped her.
“Get your hands off me!”
“Listen, I'm sorry.” Kelvin apologized genuinely. “I had no other choice.”
“You definitely did,” she snatched her wrist from his grip, her glare hitting him like daggers. “But you chose to support your friend and deceive that b***h!”
Karen chuckled. “I suppose this has revealed Camille's secret to me. I have the power to avenge my friend now!”
She made to leave again but was stopped once more by Kelvin.
“What did you just say? Did you know Camille before now?”
Karen glared at him. “Will you stop touching me?”
Kelvin let go with a smirk on his face. “Touching you?”
He stepped up to her, close enough for her to breath in his cologne. “If I were to touch you in this place, you'd be on that table with your juice running down your shaking legs.”
Karen's lips parted. Her anger disappeared with no trace.
Kelvin stepped back and cleared his throat.
“So, stop screaming.” He said. “It makes everyone here think I am actually touching you, when I haven't even started.”
Their gaze locked just then, with Kelvin's earlier words playing dangerously inside her mind. Karen still couldn't believe what he just said to her.
How shameless could he be?
She blinked, bringing herself down to earth.
“I'll repay for that.” Kelvin told her, pointing at her soiled dress.
“N-no.” She stammered and then paused. Why couldn't she suddenly speak properly? Damn you, Karen! She cursed inwardly.
“You don't have to.” She spoke again, barely strengthing her quivering voice.
“I wasn't asking for your permission.” He told her. “Come.”
He took her wrist and led them out of the building. Luckily, there was a shopping mall just opposite the restaurant.
Karen was too embarrassed to object or even speak, for fear of sounding just like her heartbeat currently did. Worse, he looked like someone who wouldn't hesitate to do what he actually said.
Her mind concocted a picture of her on the restaurant table with his head between her legs, pleasuring her with his tongue.
Karen quickly blinked and came down to earth again.
They stepped into the mall. He let go off her wrist.
“Pick any dress of your choice.” He said firmly.
Avoiding his piercing gaze, she said. “I already told you, you don't have to. I hate to feel indebted to you.”
“You won't, because I'm only repaying for the soiled dress.”
“You didn't soil it.” She answered back.
“Still, I took part of it. I wouldn't like you to have a bad impression of me on our first meeting.”
Karen met his gaze just then. It lingered and then he broke away.
“I'll select the dress then.” He left her standing there and moved through the rows of pretty dresses.
Eventually, he picked a red dress. It was long and slit from the thigh downwards. The shoulder was bare and perfect for someone with a frame like Karen's.
He stole a glance at her, imagining her in the dress and finally decided it was the right choice.
He had the sales rep pack it and paid for it. He returned to Karen with the bag.
“You can return home now. Accept this as my apology for kissing you.”
Karen wondered what he meant. She'd already slapped him and was rude to him, did he have to go this far for an apology? Was it just a show?
She took it, afraid that staring another argument could have her pinned to the wall this time.
“Thank you.” Her voice came as a whisper, as if she was afraid to talk.
“C’mon, I'll drive you back.”
“You don't-”
“It's late. I need to make sure you return home safely.”
Karen knew better than to argue. She followed behind him, wondering why he didn't hold her wrist this time. Was he also having the same thoughts as her? Not possible.
Even though she felt attracted to him, it might not be the same for him.
The drive to her location was eerily silent. It seemed that they were both locked in a world of their own, however, her glance constantly fell on his arms controlling the steering wheel.
There were muscular, with deep veins running through them. She imagined being handled with arms as strong as that.
She whined down so the night air could bring her back to her senses. How could his words at the restaurant have this much effect on her.
Maybe she should think of something else. Like the relationship Camille and Finn shared to have her look so heartbroken just seeing Finn with another woman.
The car came to a screeching halt.
“Thanks.” Karen said before reaching to open the door.
“Karen.”
She paused. How did he know her name?
When she didn't turn to face him, he said, “Look at me.”
She did and she wished she didn't. His eyes held an unexplainable expression and with his next words, she knew why.
“Avoid Finn. Stop whatever it is you have going on with him.”
Looking into his eyes told her he wasn't bluffing.
“Why?”
“And also, whatever you plan on doing to get back at Camille, do not use today's event.”
Seeing that he wasn't going to tell her why, she stepped out of the car. Karen pondered on his words even as she walked towards the entrance.
Her thoughts were cut short when she opened the door and found Serena in Elliot's arms.
Elliot had a glass of water in his hand and Serena was sipping from it.
She immediately shut the door and left the two. Her thoughts were temporarily taken away from Kelvin and the event and replaced with thoughts of why the cold and aloof Elliot Vance was holding her best friend, Serena in his arms.
