Ravenna.
Stepping out of the car, I smoothed out my dress. It was a simple cotton blue outfit that clung to my body, stopping right at my knees, and the neckline was plunging—one of the dresses I had gotten from the shopping mall yesterday.
I was f*****g nervous—never had I been this nervous in my entire life. Not even on the day I married the man I knew was in love with my sister.
Calm, Ravenna. Calm.
Once I had managed to steady myself, it did not take long for a particular b***h to ruin it again.
“Oh… Ravenna,” Kate taunted, her heels hitting the floor sharply as she approached us. She eyed me up and down. “Oh… you decided to dress up. Still pathetic, I must say. You can take the girl away from being a slave, but I guess you can’t take the slave away from the girl.”
“Hmmm.” I rolled my eyes and did not let her words hurt me. “What the hell are you doing here?” I couldn’t believe she had actually shown up at the company just to ruin my first day.
“I guess Ryder didn’t tell you. Of course, he didn’t have to. I work here now. I’m his secretary but more like a partner.” She winked at me. “One to keep him relieved as he worked.” Oh… she was openly admitting to f*****g him now.
She rounded the car, and once her eyes darted around the parking lot and saw that it was just four of us—including the driver, who was never a problem because Ryder had made him sign a confidentiality agreement—she kissed Ryder deeply. When she pulled away, her lipstick was all over his lips, and her fingers were pressing hard on his chest like she owned him.
The sight made my chest ache. Just a little. It was surprising that I had quickly gotten used to them.
“Oh… congratulations on your new job,” I sneered.
I turned to start walking away, but no… Kate would never feel better until she had walked all over me.
“I don’t think a crown princess should look like she just crawled out of someone’s bed. You are really doing everything just to get laid, huh? Just like your mother.”
“Hmmm.” I folded my arms over my chest, assessing her, and I realized that she seemed to have gotten a BBL done. Her ass and hips were bigger in a way that didn’t allign with her thighs. “Same way you crawl out of my husband’s bed, huh? I guess you learned one or two things from your stepmother.”
Her eyes blazed. “What?!” She did not expect me to talk back. “Your mother is not my stepmother! She is just some… seductress.”
“Whatever! You learned seduction from her, and that is why you got your ass worked on. Just to have my husband wrapped around your little fingers, you fake little slut.”
Her jaw dropped, but she recovered quickly, looking at Ryder for some saving. “Look, Ryder,” she cried out. “She is bullying me.” She did not deny the allegations and just resorted to damage control.
Ryder, who had been assessing her like he had not noticed she had gotten a BBL done before now, straightened. “You don’t get to talk to her—”
“Shut up, you asshole!” I poked my ears lazily like his voice was bad music. “You know what? You two are meant for each other. So, I will allow you two to be and head over to work.” I waved my fingers. “Byeee.”
I did not know what happened, but that Valentine’s night—the mockery, the pain, the loneliness, the night of the Alpha king—had broken and forged me into something more courageous. Someone who wouldn’t just watch while they break her anymore.
Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked towards the elevator, straight to the top floor of RavenWolf Security and Logistics.
—————
By the kitchenette in my fancy office, I tried to make the Alpha’s coffee the way Elara, his former assistant who had gotten promoted while he was away, had said.
The Alpha liked his coffee very hot. Not sugary. Bittersweet.
I found his preference rather weird.
Elara had been so helpful. She had taught me how to draft out his schedule. I still hadn’t grasped everything yet, but I wasn’t as clueless as when I had resumed work thirty minutes ago.
Once I had managed to make the coffee, I placed the glass on the tray and made my way to his office, which was just opposite mine.
I took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell.
“Come in.”
His voice though—rough and commanding. It sounded like the first thing I wanted to hear in the morning and the last thing I wanted to hear at night before going to bed.
Twisting the doorknob open, I stepped in.
The office was clean and breathtaking but distant, almost untouchable. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the city like a painting, while polished marble floors reflected soft light. Everything was perfectly arranged—sleek desk, spotless glass, silent machines—but the air felt cold, settling deep, as if no warmth or life truly existed within the walls.
And him.
He was dressed in a black Italian suit, completely different from the man I had asked to f**k me or the one I had breakfast with. He reeked of power and authority that could close every business deal. He sat behind a polished mahogany desk, his head buried in the laptop before him. His scent and cologne filled the space.
I quickly tore my gaze away from him and approached slowly because I didn’t trust my legs, especially not with the way my cunt throbbed slightly at intervals.
“Good morning, sir.”
No response.
Not even a glance.
Oh… he was choosing to keep it professional.
Good.
Exactly what I needed—my body needed to focus and remind itself that he was totally off-limits.
I placed the glass gently on the desk. “Your coffee.”
Still no response.
He just grabbed it and took a sip. His face twisted in displeasure. “Cold.”
“What?!”
“This is cold.”
I was quite shocked because I had actually boiled the water to the highest degree, and even now steam was still rolling out of it. “But I boiled—”
“Don’t argue.” He finally raised his head, his eyes stone cold and sending chills down my spine. “Just accept your incompetence.”
My throat tightened. “I’m sorry,” I finally said. “I will remake it.”
“Don’t bother.” He shut down his laptop and grabbed it. “Let’s go to the boardroom. I have a meeting with the executives.” He walked out of the room.
Oh wow… first day and I was already messing things up.
I grabbed the glass, and it was still as hot as f**k. I swore no normal person would be able to drink it without letting it cool off a little. So what was his deal exactly?
I walked out of the office with one silent prayer echoing in my mind.
“God, let me be able to survive today without asking my father-in-law to f**k me like his little slut.”
But my wolf, Nyx, stirred. “You want him, so… we would have him.”
“No, Nyx. He is my father-in-law. We shouldn’t want him.”
She responded, “Hmmmm. We would see.”
