I stayed for the formal close of the session and the completion of the documentary record. This was not optional. The session could not close without the presiding alpha's acknowledgment of the minutes, and I had learned, over years, that the work of leaving a room correctly was as important as the work of entering it. You did not walk out while things were still in motion. You waited. You confirmed. You looked at every person who had been present and made sure they understood that you had seen them and that the record was complete and that you were moving forward with a clear picture of where everything stood.
