Chapter 2: "Prank"

(Phone ringing)

Beep Beep Beep

"Hello dear, hope you're feeling better now?"

“Better? Hell No" she said sounding very annoyed.

“What's the matter darling? You sound very angry, what happened? Did anyone get on your nerves darling?"

“Mom, where are you?" She said without answering any of her mother's questions. She just wanted to go straight to the point. This matter was not something she could joke with.

"l am in the Hospital, Stop scaring me darling. What happened? How did your medical checkup go?"

"The results ain't pleasing at all, guess what?" She said creating an atmosphere of suspense.

"Why the suspense? Just tell me what the doctors said?"

"Mom, the doctor came to give me the test results and guess what?"

"Tell me dear, don't keep me in suspense. Is everything alright? My heart beat has accelerated"

"Alright? (Giving out a hysterical laughter ) Nothing is alright, I am 12 weeks pregnant" she couldn't believe those words herself then how could her mom believe her?

"What! (Laughing) you're joking right?"

"(Laughing) you're shocked too right? That was the same question I asked the doctor"

"Wait! You ain't joking?" She said sounding shocked.

"I am not joking mom. The result the doctor brought said I'm 12 weeks pregnant. How can I be pregnant? How?" She said sounding very paranoid.

"Honey, don't be too excited it wouldn't be good for your health darling. Please just calm your nerves down, I would be with you shortly” After she was done persuading her to calm down, she hang up and immediately ran outside her office. "I forgot to ask which ward she is in," she said, sounding so confused. The news she had gotten affected her reasoning. This hospital is so big that she could get lost herself if she wasn't careful. She needed a clear directives.

"Doctor Teresa, is anything the problem?" A nurse said looking at the confused doctor who was Infront of her.

Hearing someone's voice she came out from her thoughts " Oh Goodness, do you know the ward my daughter is in?"

"She should be under Doctor Steve's care"

"Doctor Steve? What ward would that be?"

"That should be the second floor below ours, it should be Ward 25" The nurse replied

“Thanks darling,” she said, rushing into the elevator. Getting in, she pressed the button to the down floor. She couldn't process the information she had just heard. The word '12 weeks' kept ringing in her ears and she had the whole thing spelt in her mind. "How can she be pregnant?" She couldn't help but marvel at the sound of the word.

"Cling" came the sound of the elevator giving her the sign that she had already reached her destination. Coming out of the elevator, she felt her palm sweating. Reading the writings on the door, she found her way to a ward having the bold number '25' written on it. Knocking on the door, she stepped into the ward.

"Mom" Selom shouted immediately she saw the woman who got in. She felt like crying her hearts out, she had a surging mix of emotions within her. She looked more like a child who was bullied and needed help.

"Oh Darling, what you said on the phone was all a prank right? You're too old for such games" She said giving her a hug

"A prank? I wouldn't joke with such a thing. Here is the result, check things out yourself" she said handing over a sheet of paper to her.
