I stare out the car window, looking at my surroundings in awe. This was certainly different from home. No palm trees, or even a glimpse of ocean was in sight and we had been travelling for almost two hours.
I was feeling both excited and nervous at the same time. I was finally here in America, Missouri to be precise. I was heading to a small town, called Bluemoon.
I could't find it on the map, but was told by my mother, that it was close to Ha Ha Tonga, State Park, in Camdenton. It sounded mysterious, and I couldn't wait to explore and make new friends.
"We should be there in about fifteen minutes" my driver who's name was Ian said, glancing at me in his rear view mirror, for about the ninth time.
I pretend not to notice, his puppy eye look, and nod my head, in acknowledgement.
The area seemed pretty forestry, with a few open fields teaming with wildflowers. After about ten minutes, Ian turns the black landrover left onto a beaten dirt track.
Thick trees lined both sides of the roadway and after five minutes in, we come to a barrier across the roadway. Ian slows the vehicle to a stop, and a burley looking built man, dressed in a guard uniform steped out the booth, and pressed a button to move the gate railing.
I heard Ian say "Hi, Paul. Is all well?"
The security guy nods his head, and we drove through the barrier. The road was smooth and paved and after leaving the barrier, which was strange.
"It's to deter unwanted guest," Ian says, he must have noticed by confusion.
"But isn't it a town? I thought you would welcome visitors," I tell him, feeling even more confuse. I may have came from the islands, but even I knew that visitors equates money.
"Don't fret your beautiful head about it," he tells me, closing off the topic.
The trees suddenly opened up, to reveal the town. It was beautiful in the sunlight, rows and rows of older design buildings, bustling with various business and people going about their daily life.
In the middle of the town sat a huge water fountain, with a were-like looking creature, as its main focal point.
"You all like the show, teen wolf here?" I jokingly asked Ian.
"What show? I know no such show," he replies confusely, turning to stare at me.
I pointed at the statue, "Oh, that," he shrugs his shoulders.
"It's always been there, its part of our history." he tells me indiferently.
As if it was normal for a town to have statues of wolf beasts as their founding fathers.
I begin to wonder, what sort of Alice in Wonderland situation I was in, where a town in the middle of no where, had a were-creature as part of it's history.
We drive out of the main town area and, I see a vast lake in the distance. It was sureal, the sunlight sparkling on it, like gem stones.
"Can we stop there at the lake?" I ask Ian sweetly, batting my eyelashes at him.
He glances at me in the rearview mirror, and says with a devious smirk on his lips
"Sure, for a kiss, I can do that."
A kiss! He must be mad, I don't even know him from Friday and my first kiss will not be bargain for. I huff internally, seething at the audacity.
My silence must have alerted him to my distaste of his crude suggestion, because he hunge his shoulders in defeat then says
"Fine, I'll stop, but only for a few minutes. Orcale Anna is waiting on us."
I ignored his words, as all my focus was solely on, getting a change to explore that manificient lake. Ian turns onto a side road leading to it, and in no time we were infront of the lake.
He parks the vehicle and I hustle out, walking quickly up to the lake. I stopped at the edge and closely examine it. It had to be at lease half a mile long, surrounded by trees with a few benches dotted here and there.
A jetty stood at the side, with a few boats anchored to the dock. I peer even closer and could make out a few conoes and jet skies.
"This should be fun," I whispered to myself.
"Yes. It can be great fun," Ian says startling me, standing too close.
How did he sneak up on me so quietly? I wondered, turning to look at him with a frown etched across my brow.
He has a big silly grin on his handsome face, yes, it is true this i***t was a looker, as if knowing something I didn't.
I move away from him a bit, and begin walking back to the vehicle, leaving him standing there alone.
He soon follows and get back into the driver's seat, and off we are once again.
"What's the name of the lake?" I reluntantly ask him.
"It's called Wolfhead Lake," he aswers glancing back at me.
I say nothing. These people and their fasination with wolves. I pray that the woods doesn't have any wolves, cause I really can't handle being eaten, without at least getting my first kiss!
We drive pass contemporary design houses, with beautifully landscape lawns in passing.
We stop at one of these houses, it was painted in red and blue. One would think, that those colours would not match, but somehow it did. Ian pop the trunk and remove my luggage.
He drags them toward the house. " Aren't you coming?" he asks, glancing over his shoulder at me.
I quickly get out the vehicle, and follow him towards the house. As we neared the front door, it suddenly opens and an older slim woman, with long graying hair, blue eyes, and dressed in a colourful flowing dress, steps out to greet us.
"Head Warrior Ian," she greets him, with a smile.
"You can put those, in the Lilac room, first floor, third room on the left," she guestures towards my luggage.
"Yes, Oracle Anna," he responds, nodding his head and heading into the house. I watched his bulkly frame walk away, wow he was really built like tank. I pity the fool that would be brave enough to tackle him.
I found their exchange, to a bit weird. This place better not be no cult. Would my mom really ship me off to a cult, I wondered. No, I'm just overreacting, but then again my mother was unusual.
The old lady named Oracle Anna, looks at me, still smiling, "Welcome, to my home child," she says.
Oh, my God. I'm in a cult. That's how they greet you, in the movies. Afterwards, they brain wash you with their indoctrination. I am going to have to call my mother first thing, when I'm alone. They better not try, to take away my cell phon. I stand there silently fuming, with these wild thoughts racing through my head.
"My child. Are you alright?" I hear a soft voice asks. Snapping out of my daze, I find Oracle Anna's face, up close infront of mines.
"Yes, Miss Oracle Anna, I am fine," I quickly answer, stepping back a bit from her.
"Wonderful!" she exclaims, grabing my hand and leading me inside her house.
"Did your mother, tell you anything about us?" she asks me curiously.
"Not much really, mom said you would teach me, all I needed to know," I answer, realising for the first time, that all this was not normal.
"Well, no worries, my dear. I will teach you our ways, and guide you on your path," she says cryptically.
"Let me give you a tour of the house first, and then show you to your room. I am sure you must be tired, after that long drive," she tells me, while showing me around.
It was a decent size house, with a large living area, decorated in earthly tones, with comfortable looking cream couches. There was a study room filled with books, and a large antique desk with a chair sat behind it. A cream love seat sat in one of the corners, next to the large glass window.
The kitchen was also large and modern, with all the amenities one could desire. There were lots of huge bay windows, letting in the light, which in turn made the kitchen, feel as if it was one with nature.
As we neared the staircase, we met up with Ian or Head Warrior Ian as she had called him.
"Oh, you are still here, I thought you would have left already," she tells him, with a frown etched on her face.
"I am leaving now, I have to report back to Beta Ethan," he answers, quickly walking out the front door.
That was odd, what was he doing upstairs so long? I wondered, to myself. It took at least ten minutes, for her to show me around, I mused to myself.
We head up the beautiful wooden staircase, and onto the landding. We walk down the long corridor, then entered the third room, on the left, which she had mentioned earlier to Ian.
"This will be your room, for the duration of your stay here with us," Ms. Anna says to me, with a smile, waiting for my reaction to the room.
Who was us? I asked myself. Wasn't she an splinster. I was told that she didn't have a husband, the reasons why, I was unaware of.
