Chapter 20

1525 Words
I awoke to a sliver of sunlight streaming through the window, hitting me across my face. I scrunch up my face, turning my head trying to get rid of this intrusive glow, behind my close lids. It was still there, slowly waking up, I stretched my arms out above my head, yawning loudly. That wakes me up fully and Ethan comes to mind. I turn to my side, with a silly grin on my face, ready to greet him. The side he slept on, is empty. I reach out my hand and touch the now vacant spot. It is cold, so he must have left a while ago, while it was still dark. Disappointment hits me hard, but I try to shake it off. He never told me, that he was spending the night, I just assumed he would. I sit up in bed, as I hear a knock on my door. Is it him? I wondered and calls out "Come in." The door knob turns and the door pushes open, in walks the least person, I expected to see, Mary-Ann. I was shocked to see her here, especially in my room. What did she want? I wondered. She was beautifully dressed in a grey knee lenght armless circle neck dress, with a black belt cinched in at her tiny waist. Her black hair was in a neat bun, her carefully makeup face was in a scrowl as she looked me over with distaint. "I see you wormed your way into the bunk house," she hissed out snakelike I say nothing, but remained on the bed watching her every move carefully. She advanced further into the room, sniffing the air around my bed. I notice her eyes darking in anger "He was in your bed!" she screams out in disbelief, her hands balled into fist. I slid my back aganist the bedhead, preparing for an attack from my nemesis. "You nasty disgusting slut," she yells at me "You don't belong here, you vile powerless human and when I'm finished with you, you will wish your mother has swallowed you instead, you worthless piece of flith," she continues hurlling torrents of hateful words at me. I had enough of her bad behaviour, taking what Ethan and I had and making it into something vile. It makes me soo angry, that she would call me those horrid names, when I was still a virgin in flesh, my private thoughts about Ethan was another matter, but that was between me and my god. "Shut up, Mary had a little lamb, shut up," I yell at her angrily, chanting it over and over again. The silence in my room is sudden, I see Mary's figure frozen in the room, her mouth wide open, as if she is fighting hard, aganist a force of some kind. Her body eventually betrays her and her mouth shuts close. "Leave my room now, and don't ever talk to me again," I repeat these instructions to her in sessions of three, as that lucky number seemed to do the trick. Her eyes stares blankly into the room, then I see her body turns around and walks with heavy wooden steps as if an extra weigh had been placed on it, out the door leaving it wide opened. I heard her in the corridor, then her steps clunking down the stairs. Wow, I am getting powerful I thought to myself, as I had felt an electric buzz running through me this time. I get off the bed and close my door, feeling a little antsy that she might come back. I was not ready to tell anyone, what was happening to me, I needed more time to be sure about it. So far, all I could do was some sorta mental telepathy, making a person follow instructions using a form of hypnosis, wasn't this what vampires were known for, maybe my dead dad was a vampire on the low. Now how badass would that be. I laugh out loud, startling myself by this crazy outbrust. "I need to take a shower and relax," I say, into the empty room. I take off my clothes and walk into the bathroom. Getting into the shower, I adjust the temperature to my liking, I take a lesuirely bath, even shampooing my exteremely long white hair. Damd it, my arms hurts now. I really needed a haircut, but somehow I was always unable to take a scissors to it. My hair was my inner strength, it was the only thing that remained constant in my life, and when dad disappeared, no died, it remain constant in my wirlwind life. My mom says he is dead, but at twelve years old I have never been able to accept it. His hair and mustash were the same white as mines, I remember him playing and tickling me. Every time he left us, he would return, it was all I knew, so I didn't question it. Mom called his disapperance, business trips, untill one day he just never returned. We waited and waited, until mom couldn't take it anymore and told me that he was dead. I didn't cry, my little mind couldn't comprehend not seeing him again,so I didn't believe her and still waited for him to return home. It has now been six long years of waiting, my hope had faded after all that time, after all I was no longer a silly child but an adult. Yet somehow, deep deep down inside my sadden heart, I felt his essence still. I don't know how to explain it but it was as if we were connected by an invisible thread still. I had tried talking to mom about this, but she started crying and accusing me of not letting the dead be at peace, so after a while, I just gaved up. I turned off the shower, and stepped out of the glass cubicle, I grab one of the fluffy towel on the rack and wrapped it around my head, securing it tight. I grab the other smaller one and dried off the water on my skin. Finishing, I hang it back on the rack, then tried to dry my hair as much as possible, knowing that I would need some sunlight and fresh breeze to finish it off for me. I didn't like using a hair dryer and trys to avoid it as much as possible. I walk back into my new room and take out a thin strap blue and white flowery sundess to wear. My hair was still too wet for more covering clothes than that. Looking at the time, I still had an hour before heading to school. Putting on my white sandals, I left my still damp hair hanging down my back and head downstairs. Breakfast in the sunlight, should do the trick. Was I late or something, no one seems to be around. I pushed the kitchen door open, and was met by the cooks. The three women turned around in surprise, white aprons wrapped around their waist. "Can I help you Miss," one asks me, exaiming me from head to toe, staring at my eyes and hair a bit more. "Just looking for breakfast," I tell her. "The food is in the dinning hall Miss," she explains patiently. "Oh, thanks," I tell her, heading towards the room next door. Pushing open the door, I was greeted with a room filled of teenagers, stuffing their mouths. They all turned to stare at me curiously, and again I heard the dreaded words whispered the human among them. "Good morning," I say feeling ackward, backing up, wanting to leave I see Adeline stands and gives me a wide smile, she guesters for me to come towards her, which I did. "How did you sleep?" she asks sounding happy "I slept fine," I tell her, not mentioning Ethan or bitchy Mary. Besides it was personal and none of her or anybody else's business. "You can sit next to me, I kept a spot for you," she tells me and points at the empty chair, next to her, waiting expectanly for me to sit. "That's really kind of you, but I wanted to eat on the porch, I need to dry my hair before school," I explain trying not to hurt her feelings. A friend here, would really be nice. "Ok," Adeline says with a shug and grabs a plate and loads it with breakfast. I had to force her to put back a few things, as I knew it would get wasted like the food last night. Thinking about that, I didn't see the plate this morning, I wondered if Ethan took it when he left. Adeline hands me a much lighter plate, topped with pancake, eggs and suggages covered in maple surup. I thank her and walked out the room heading to the out side patio area. I open the front door and sit on a wide wooden bench, directly in the sunlight. Feeling the breeze blowing over me felt good. Digging into this delicious food, I knew that my hair would dry in no time.
