Ch. 24 : Dancing Demons

The pictures took a little more than an hour, with Devin, Nyla and Sammy insisting on pulling me in with them whenever an all girl picture came up. Even when Nyla’s family joined in for pictures, sometimes leaving only the female relatives with the bride, Nyla kept me beside her, pouting every time I tried to sneak away. Finally, after dozens of poses and changes of scenery, Nyla and Danny shooed everyone inside, wanting to make their entrance as a couple alone after a few more pictures with just them. Nick stayed beside me through all the madness too, making me laugh every time he bowed dramatically and offering his arm to me, like a gentleman from a different century. He’d even tilted his chin up into the air and made a really funny face as he took to speaking with a terrible British accent. It kept me smiling and laughing until we were seated at the table closest to the small stage where Nyla and Danny were going to sit. Devin, Marcus, Sammy and Izaak were all seated at the same table as us too, all happily taking turns to go over to the bar to grab drinks for themselves and their partners. Which left me thinking about Nick. He had asked me what I wanted to drink and I, having misplaced my little notepad, used a napkin to write down the drink I wanted with a pen Sammy lent me. And Nick had simply smiled, nodded and gotten up saying that he’d get it for me before heading to the bar. ‘Is he… my date?’ I wondered, feeling my cheeks burn as I stared at his back while he ordered what he wanted. “Here.” Devin called out to me when Nick turned with drinks in hand, carefully making his way back. “My brother got this for you earlier and kept forgetting it at home.” She handed me a brand new phone with a pale gray rubber cover around it. It looked to be the same brand as Nick and the others with a few apps installed into it when I opened it. I then turned and pointed to the device when Nick sat next to me, placing my drink in front of me. He paused, then smiled and nodded before looking over to his sister. “Thanks.” He called out loudly, wanting to be heard over the music that was now playing from the DJ’s corner. “Of course.” She answered back, looking at Nick pointedly as a silent conversation seemed to pass between them. After a long second, Nick turned back to me with a much softer smile, his finger tapping on the corner of the phone as he spoke. “I wanted to get you something more useful to you. So you didn’t have to waste time looking for a pen and paper to use.” I nodded and smiled, wondering if I could really accept something like this before he continued. “Think of it as a gift, ok?” He leaned in just as the music changed. “I’ve already added my number into it too…” I felt trapped as I looked at him, my eyes locked on his as he leaned in even more, tilting his head ever so slightly so his cheek brushed past mine, his lips by my ear. “Put myself as your emergency contact too… I hope you don’t mind.” I didn't know what I could say to his words, my body stiff and locked in place in response to his closeness. But the light scent of his cologne, the smooth way his hair was combed back and the pale gray suit with a black button down that he had on… It all added to the overwhelming rush of heated thoughts and urges that took over me. I even felt the undeniable pressure begin to grow between my legs that forced me to clamp my thighs shut. A shiver of need took over my body, making it hard to breathe normally, though I fought to appear calm while he was so close to me. He is an incredibly sexy and handsome man. And with the elevated emotions whirling around us, I was betting that something was bound to happen between us by the end of the day. Though my nervous stomach and trembling hands showed that I wasn’t sure if I was really ready for anything at all to happen. Those very same nerves clashed with the feelings of anticipation and desire, causing a fluttering to erupt in my stomach and making my heart race. “Ladies and gentlemen!” The DJ started, lowering the volume of the music and speaking into a microphone, thankfully saving me from the burning gaze that Nick had trapped me in. “Please assist me in welcoming our lovely couple, the stars of the day, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Nyla Floss!” I stood with everyone else and clapped as Nyla and Danny walked in. Nyla held Danny’s arm, her fingers curled into the crook of his elbow while she waved and blew kisses out to the guests. Danny high-fived those closest to him, waving and cheering as he led his new wife towards the head table on the low stage. The music resumed as the long awaited couple took their seats at the head table. A few guests who I assumed to be family went up to them and chatted happily with the newlyweds, hugging each other and shaking heads before more guests approached them. The events following their entrance flowed smoothly after both Nyla and Danny had something to drink and eat. With the first of these events being the newlyweds first dance. After watching Nyla and Danny both whirling and spinning blissfully around the dance floor, more couples joined them, each representing the length of time they’d been together as the more older married pairs joined in near the end. After that, loud and bouncing music was played for everyone to dance to, giving all guests the chance to interact with Nyla and Danny while the catering company began to serve the first round of food. After the meal, and a few more rounds of drinks for our table, a few wedding games were played where Nyla and Danny’s knowledge about the other was tested. With them sitting back to back and holding one shoe belonging to each other, questions were asked and they both answered silently, simply lifting the shoe of the person they believed represented the question best. Then, after all the laughter died down, Danny got down on his knees and snuck under Nyla’s dress, making her face turn a bright shade of red while several Demons hooted and cheered for her. My own face was burning as I watched him reappear from beneath her skirt with the lacey white garter between his teeth, his eyes locking with his blushing bride before he stood up and showed it off proudly. Danny then walked over to his friend Marcus who stood waiting for him and snapped the garter around the man's wrist. It was then that Nyla and Danny ushered forward both Devin, who grabbed the bouquet she had sat on the table, and Marcus to the dance floor, announcing their own excitement for their close friend's upcoming wedding. Devin and Marcus danced beside Danny and Nyla, waving over Sammy and Izaak as well as other couples as the flashing lights dropped down to a more romantic setting. “Lora.” I turned to the faint sound of my name, finding Nick standing beside my seat with a hand outstretched for me. “May I have this dance?” I blinked at him a few times, stunned, before slowly placing my hand in his. He smiled even brighter at me once my palm lay against his much larger one before pulling me gently out of my seat. My heart hammered in my chest loudly as I followed him to the dance floor, seeing all the loved up couples as they danced and swayed and tenderly gazed into each other's eyes, lost to the music that played. I felt my hands become clammy with nerves and anxiousness as he turned to face me once he found a nice little open spot on the dance floor. His large hand then moved slowly across my body, pulling me flush against him, his fingers grazing my lower back. His other hand moved upwards, touching the bare skin of my upper back before resting it between my shoulder blades. My body, now ignited into a flurry of sparks that I’ve never experienced before, made me feel so very high as I looked into his eyes. Almost as if I was floating as our bodies softly swayed from side to side. My hands rested against his chest, feeling the taut, lean muscle that was concealed by his formal clothes and I shivered involuntarily, imagining things I shouldn’t be in such a public place. “You look beautiful, Lora.” He muttered to me, leaning down so only I could hear his words. “You’re making it hard to focus on anything else.” I smiled a little shyly, feeling the weight of his eyes as he looked at me. Yet we continued to lean and sway to the slow lilting rhythm of the song. The silence between us saying so much more than I could possibly say right now, yet my own inability to speak made me feel suddenly desperate to say the words I wanted him to hear. No matter how crazy and stupid I may sound. “Fuck.” He mumbled abruptly, stopping our swaying as he bowed his head for a second, nearly resting it on my shoulder before lifting it a second later. “I really want to kiss you right now.” Something took over me once those words left his lips. Something akin to courage, confidence and an insane surge of impulse that made it impossible for me to stop myself. I gripped his shoulders and rose up on my tip-toes, still a bit too short to reach him in heels, and looked right into his eyes as I leaned in. He didn’t waste a single second once I made my intent clear, holding me even more tightly against him as he too leaned down to meet me. His lips were warm and soft against mine, making my eyes flutter closed the moment they touched me. My hands looped around his neck as our lips danced to their own music, holding him close and relishing the feel of his body against mine. Something took over the both of us as the kiss stretched on, something that stirred within my chest and awakened my deeply slumbering Core that controlled my very power as a Siren. It was as if, that something reacted to Nick and his kiss, filling a piece of me that I didn’t even know was hollow in the first place. Complete… Whole… Flawless… Beautiful… Passionate… None of these words seemed to fit or describe what I was feeling. Though the rush that swallowed us both, carrying us away into this burning NEED made it near impossible to think of anything else. My entire body filled with a soothing heat that coated every single inch of me. From the crown of my head to the very tips of my fingers and toes. This warmth made me feel connected to Nick somehow, though it hummed from somewhere deep in my Core, also reacting to my power. Everything had been set ablaze within me. And I wanted more. So. Much. More. He pulled back for just a second before diving back towards me, groaning against my lips as they parted for him. He tasted of whiskey and something else I couldn’t quite place, something just as smooth yet still somehow sweet. I knew, as we continued to kiss, that I would have moaned several times over if I was capable of making a sound. And right that minute, I was glad that I couldn't, still vaguely aware that we were surrounded by many people. When we finally pulled back and away from each other, we were both panting and still holding each other close, trying to regain control over ourselves. Our foreheads pressed together while the seconds ticked by, taking the time to fully calm ourselves and our reaction to that kiss. “You’re mine.” He suddenly said, leaning back to look at me, a bright smile on his face. “No wonder I couldn’t stop focusing on you.” He added with a chuckle. It took me a moment, still staring at him while my mind buzzed with his words. But slowly, those words clicked into place and my eyes widened. My mouth parted and mutely gaped at him like a fish out of water. And my grip on the lapels of his suit tightened while I continued to spin his words and that kiss over and over again in my mind. Blinking back the shock I felt, a smile taking over my lips as the sting of tears took over. My emotions overwhelmed me while the itching, unbreakable need to sing rose up again, tugging at my chest and pressing on my throat. Nick, this man that had all but taken over every inch of my mind since I met him… This Human man that showed me that there was indeed good in those that were nothing like me… He was my Match.
