Into the whispering woods

230 Words
The Eldorian Forest was a place of both wonder and dread. Sunlight struggled to penetrate the dense canopy, casting the forest floor in perpetual twilight. Ancient trees, their gnarled branches reaching like skeletal fingers, whispered secrets in the wind. Elara, guided by the farmer's desperate account, ventured into the woods, her senses on high alert. She wasn't alone for long. A shadow detached itself from the trees – a rogue named Kael, with eyes as sharp as his wit. He offered his help, driven by a mix of curiosity and the promise of reward. Hesitantly, Elara accepted. His knowledge of the forest's hidden paths and his uncanny ability to sense danger proved invaluable. As they delved deeper, they stumbled upon a scene of chaos: a desecrated campsite, the air thick with a putrid stench, and the faint trace of dark magic. Kael, surprisingly, became somber, muttering about the signs of the Shadow Blight, a corruption that twisted living beings into monstrous forms. Elara knew then that they were facing something far more sinister than they had initially thought. Their investigation led them to a crumbling ruin, an ancient temple swallowed by the forest. Inside, they found cryptic symbols etched into the stone walls, remnants of a forgotten language. Elara recognized some of the symbols; they spoke of a powerful sorcerer, Malakor, who was banished centuries ago for wielding forbidden magic.
