AT ALERT!

The gorgeous being looked back and said, "It's just an escape. You'll all need it when the time comes. Your pain will lead you to me," he said with a voice of concern but without any expression on his face. He turned back to the wall and literally, I mean literally, walked through it. He put in his right leg slowly, his right hand followed along with the rest of his body. For about 2 minutes there, my legs felt wobbly from standing, and my eyes hurt from not blinking. But can you blame me? Because I think that only a lunatic could blink freely in a situation like that. I didn't want to miss any part of it. And I certainly didn't want the mysterious being standing in my room to appear in front of me when I gave my eyelids the privilege of resting. I sat by my bed to process everything I just saw, but as I looked at the wall, I was suddenly attracted to it. I walked to it and touched it, but it was as solid as it could be. I was staring at the wall for about 10 minutes when my mum called, "Rose." "Yes, Mum," I answered, running out of my room after briefly wiping some of the prints off the floor. For some reason, I really didn't want my parents to know about what just happened. I don't know why. Maybe it was because that's how the story always goes in movies, right? I combed my hair with my fingers and wiped off any sign of shock on my face. I walked straight to the kitchen because I knew that's where she was, from the distance of her voice. "Hey, luv." "Hi, Mum. Where have you been hiding?" She said, touching my hair and smiling like I was a child. "Nowhere," I said, still a bit breath-taken. "Okay, but why did you leave your food down here? I know noodles are your favorite." She said, smiling and raising one of her brows. I almost let out a little chuckle because that expression always made me smile. She was so cute and beautiful. I loved my mum deeply, but never dared to show it. I admired her within my heart. "Sorry. My phone rang, and it was in my room. I had to go get it." I lied. "Okay, but is everything alright, dear?" "Yes, mum, everything is okay." "Now take this food to your room and finish it. You know I hate waste." "Yes, mum. I remember," was what I said before taking my food up to my room. I sat facing the wall. I didn't realize that I hadn't blinked until my eyeballs started hurting. I just couldn't redirect my gaze somewhere else. When I was done eating, I walked quickly back to the kitchen to wash the dishes. When I was done, I rushed back upstairs to keep watching. Well, that was the plan. The mistake I made was sitting in my cushion, so it wasn't hard for me to drift to sleep. I continued that week, keeping my eyes peeled out for anything magical. But as my expectations died down due to disappointment, gradually the real issue started to hit me hard. As that week proceeded, I started feeling little rushes of emotion. Some mornings I just woke up sad and depressed, and I wouldn't get out of bed. The mornings that I managed to get out of bed, I went straight to have breakfast and clean with my headphones on. Cleaning for four hours was a lot easier with music. Not just any music, my music. Whenever I needed morning motivation, I played fast songs from my playlist to keep me agitated. But these days, I always turned on my sad playlist. Even though I tried to listen to my regular playlist, I just wouldn't feel it. So I mostly listened to songs like "Runaway" by Aurora, "Blue" by Billie Eilish. Daily fear of what my result would hold ate me up internally. I am very paranoid. I could be so paranoid that I always feared someone or anyone might somehow know all of my secrets and begin spreading them behind my back. One summer afternoon in ninth grade, an incident happened. I was just done taking a shower and wrapped myself up in a bath robe. I was about to put on something strappy. That's when I remembered that I did the laundry earlier in the morning. So I walked downstairs to take my clothes from the drying ropes. As I walked outside to pick up the clothes, suddenly, my towel fell to the floor. At the twinkle of an eye, I rushed the towel back to my chest. I looked around to see if anyone saw it, but there was no one in sight. The next day after that incident, I saw a classmate of mine laughing about something on his phone. It was Zack. Remembering his name alone makes my heart pound with anger. His dorky friends, Jack, Dare, and Jonah also joined him in laughing. But there was something that Dare did that really got my attention. He licked his lips and bit the bottom, looking seductively at the screen. At that moment, my heart started racing. Although it happened in my backyard and no one was in sight, I just didn't feel settled about it. My mind could conclude at that moment, was those idiots were looking at a picture of me. A very naked pic. Maybe my classmate was passing by and then decided to look over my fence when it happened. I just didn't know how, but every part of me told me that I was right. I could clearly imagine my whole class laughing about it behind my back. I cried whenever I thought about it, even though I wasn't sure. It still haunts me till now. This week was the week of pain and suffering. I managed to get through the week, but not without weeping. On the Sunday of the next week, I dressed up to get ready for service. Yeah, my parents are Christians, Catholics. I just went with them to Church 'cause I didn't have a choice. We arrived at Church a little late. My dad and mum settled on the bench at the front, and was about to join them when I remembered that I was planning to pray seriously. I don't usually take prayers seriously, but at that moment, I was ready to do anything to make sure I passed. The Mass Passed On Pretty fast. While we drove home, my dad started talking a lot. He started with, "Estella darling." "Yes, Dad," I answered nervously. I was really hoping that it wasn't one of his loving lectures. "How have you been doing?" "Fine..." I said slowly, trying to figure out what he was getting at. That's when I noticed the awkward look on my mother's face. "Are you sure?" my dad continued. I couldn't stand the suspense anymore, so I had to ask, "What is all of this about exactly?" "Nothing, sweetie, it's just...we thought we've been hearing you cry in your room." 'Oh, that's what this is all about,' I thought to myself. I had no idea that my midnight cries were so audible. I put on my most pretentious face before saying, "Crying?....... I haven't been crying." "Estella, say the truth," my mum instructed with concern. "I hav...............". "Darling, we are just checking on you. We feel like you've been distancing yourself from everyone lately." My dad said, cutting my lie halfway. "I am fine," I concluded before turning my gaze towards the window. In defeat, my parents rested their case. Immediately, guilt set in. They care so much about me, but I wasn't a fan of sharing my feelings or showing emotion. The rest of the ride was very quiet and awkward. Sadly, the awkwardness got more intense when we got inside the house. So I just hurried to my room. I fell on my bed and put my phone beside me. I turned my head towards my reading desk so I could be comfortable. I saw my computer screen turn on. "It should be a notification or message," I thought to myself. I got up from my bed and walked to the desk. It was indeed a notification, an email. I tapped on it and then boom! That was when it happened. The email read: 'Good day, Estella Daniels. Thank you for participating in the college entry examination. Please kindly find attached your examination results below..................................,.................................'
