A new horizon

Today is a very special day. After what seems like eternity I finally have some time to myself. I do not get that often as we are in the process of building this outpost on an asteroid in the Kipper belt. Here we are in the process of mining the heavy water trapped in the snow filled wasteland of the outer atmosphere. As we are very far away from the sun our only source of energy is the portable fusion reactors that are powered by the very hydrogen we mine. 

This hydrogen is not only the life blood of our colony it is the only reason why we have so many colonies in this part of the solar system. The products are stored in large container vessels. Using the elevator system we pump the liquid hydrogen to these massive container spacecrafts that ship this miracle fuel to all the planets for their energy needs. 

Anyway enough work time to chill. I know the perfect spot to go to. It is a small hill just outside the landing dock where all the ships come and load up their cargo. the view from the hill is very nice as you can see the whole dock from a far and it is rather relaxing to watch all the people grind while you are enjoying your meal that you have brought in your mobile transporter. 

So the day was going to be a rather relaxing one from my usual work days and the demands of the company are not that long but I am saving up for a trip to mars. Hay I may not be able to work there but I plan to visit all the same. So ever since my friend got his from luck I knew my luck would not be so kind hence I decided you know what I can save some and go there as a visitor. Life is too short to wait.

Anyway that is a bit far away, now lets get into the mile transporter. This is a special pod that can go to any terrain.It is used for transport as you can stay inside without any suit and have a better experience outside the living quarters which is always closed due to the frequent radiation storms. By outside it means in the transporter and nothing else as the moment you step outside you are dead as you are surrounded by death. In the ancient times people used to say when you are travelling the desert you are always accompanied by death as you can never know when it will arrive. But here you know when it will  arrive the moment you step outside so the only thing that you can do is marvel at the view from the safety of your pod. 

So enough chit chat lets go. I packed my box and got it the pod and started driving. I had taken the off beaten path to avoid any onlookers. When I reached my spot I found my place taken by the workers from the plant. I was a bit disappointed but no matter I will find something better. So I kept on driving a lot further than I intended and reached a rather isolated area. 

Peace at last. 

I let out an audible sigh and sat for a few moments to take in my loneliness. I was at ease after a long time. Finally I had some static moment to think about my feelings. maybe I have everything I need here. especially no one to tell me what to do. But I always have this feeling that I need to be somewhere. Maybe this is just nonsense but I always have had dreams of being someplace else. somewhere there is love. 

Love not in a romantic sense but in a psychological sense where I do not have to struggle I can be at ease with the people around me and we would always have a good time and spend the rest of our days enjoying the little things in life and making the best or ourselves. Maybe it is just a dream but I don't know I have always had it and I would like to make it true someday. 

Right as I was thinking the rover detected a ship landing near where I was stationed. No ship should be detected he we are very far away from the dock. Then I tried to make contact but I couldn't get the signal to the ship. So I decided to use the tracker in my rover to see what is going on. 

The first thing I noticed that it was a civilian ship not a cargo ship which was odd to me. As we have only rarely received transport ships full of mostly workers for the colony. Secondly the outside was a heavily damaged as of it was attacked and they were running. So I drove as fast as I could to the landing site to know exactly what was going on. 

When they landed in not so confidant way no one came out of the ship for a while so went to the ship and started to look for a way to enter the ship. But I didn't have to break into the ship as after a while the door opened and I was greeted with the most beautiful eyes that I had ever seen.

The voice said to me can you help us find a mechanic we need to leave as soon as our ship is fixed we do not have time to wait. 

I asked what are the things that were damaged we may not have all the parts for the ship on this base on hand we may need to bring in some more parts if the damage is very critical. 

No The damage is only exterior but we have damaged our auxiliary tanks so we couldn't run the electronics of the ship. 

OK I am a mechanic and I will fix your ship. It looks like you need to keep a low profile so I will offer to now say anything about you but there is only one request I have.

What is it that you want?

I want to go to the place that you are going. 

You know that we are being chased by people who want to kill us. 

Yes I figured you were running but I don't want to be here any longer take me with you. 

OK, fine Only if you fix it within 2 hrs we don't have a lot of time.

From that fateful encounter my life had changed forever
