He still lay motionless. Once again, the inexplicable fear overtook him. He saw the four legs of the horse still standing motionless a little to his left. From above, the voice came calmly and steadily. “I do not really like your tactics, soldier,” the rider spoke mockingly. “If a girl finds me so repulsive that she runs away from me, I would be too ashamed to chase after her.” Grattan remains motionless. Apparently, the rider regards him as a soldier who intended to assault a woman. He cannot yet decide on the best course of action, but realizes that he must hide his face at all costs.
