"Catch Fire" ~ 5 Seconds of Summer

"Ri? Ryan? Where are you two?" came the voice of their father. Both sighed before walking inside the house. Their time had come. "My darling girl" Rodger, their father smiled as the twins walked in. Rhea went in and hugged him first, followed by Ryan. "How are you father? Are you taking care of yourself like you promised?" Rhea asked as the three took their seat on the sofa. "I am fine. And now that you both are handling the company, I have no worries." He said, smiling. "You need to focus on your health more than the company, father. Ryan is there to take care of things there and if he needs something, he will ask you. So just keep your focus on being healthy, okay?" "Yes dear daughter." Rodger chuckled, "Anyway, an old friend of ours, Daniel Delaney is in town. And apparently this time he brought his family along, so I invited them all for dinner. They will be here shortly, make sure they are comfortable, okay? Both of you." "Yes father." Ryan said in a bored tone making Rodger laugh. "I know this is not how you would prefer to spend your evening Ryan, but you can spare one day for us I'm sure." "He is fine, father. Just being grumpy as usual." Rhea said making her twin scowl. Before Ryan could say anything, the bell rang, indicating their guests had arrived. The twins kept to their seat while Rodger went to welcome their guests. "You think he is trying to make some deal?" Ryan whispered next to Rhea. "Maybe? He will tell us, don't worry." "Yeah!" Ryan rolled his eyes, "When he thinks the time is right." Before she could reply, Rodger and Anne were back along with three more people; a man in his late fifties-early sixties, a woman in her mid fifties and a young man, not much older than the twins. "Daniel and Emilia, meet our children, Rhea and Ryan. Kids, this is my friend Daniel, his wife Emilia and their son Shaun." Rodger said introducing the twins to their guests. They both shook hands with the three before everyone took their seats. Soon Anne was engaging Emilia in small talk, and Rodger and Daniel were discussing something about business or politics with Shaun weighing in his opinions, while the twins kept to themselves; only talking when they were asked something. And because things were going too smoothly, Anne said something that made the whole atmosphere drop 10 degrees. "Rhea, honey why don't you show Shaun the house?" Rhea suddenly had no clue what to say, her throat going dry. Ryan feeling her distress stepped up as usual. "No need to bother her with stuff like this, I can do it. Come on Shaun, let me show you around." Anne was giving him a look, but Ryan didn't give a damn, his main priority would always be his sister, and he would literally die before he let anything happen to her. Ryan could see even Shaun wasn't too happy about the arrangement, or his parents for that matter, but with no other option presented before him, he followed Ryan. The problem after they left was, Emilia and Daniel kept asking Rhea one question after another. She felt like she was sitting for an interview. "Excuse me, I need to make a phone call." She said when there was a lull in the questionings. Without waiting for anyone to reply, she got up and quickly went to her room. It wasn't until 10 more minutes that there was a knock and Ryan stepped in, locking the door behind him. "You okay, Ri?" he asked softly, sitting next to her. She didn't reply for some time, just staring out the window in the dark. "I don't even know what that was." She said and exhaled after almost a minute. "You know exactly what it was. There is a deal, Anne is trying to pawn you out to the Delaney's son in order to have a stronghold. I'm so sorry honey, but don't worry, I won't let it happen. Never." Ryan said in order to reassure his twin. Rhea smiled. "I know, Ry. I know." She leaned her head on his shoulder as his arm came up to wrap around her back. They sat like that for a few minutes before he sighed. "I know you don't want to, and trust me, neither do I, but we have to go back downstairs." Ryan said. Rhea nodded. "I know. I can't hide forever." She said. 2 minutes later, the twins made their way back to the living room. "Dinner has been served, please come." Rhea announced and everyone followed the twins into the dining hall. Halfway through the dinner, Anne spoke again. "How long are you in town for, Shaun?" "I'll be here this week. Then I'll be back here in the next two to three months for the deal, and depending on that I'll decide how long I'll have to stay." "Oh that's wonderful. You are taking responsibility of the company already." Anne gave him a big smile that the boy ate up. Rhea quickly got a hold of Ryan's hand to calm him down before he said or did something. "Thank you, auntie." Shaun said, a little haughtily if you ask Ryan. "I always knew this is what I wanted to do. I have plans to further our goals." "That's great Shaun." Rodger said, and again Shaun ate it up. "What about you Ryan? What are your plans?" Daniel asked. "I'm happy with what I'm doing right now. We joined the company just last year after father had a health scare. So we are taking it slow, trying to learn the ropes." Ryan said. "That's good. You should know what you are doing before you jump in head first." Emilia said smiling. "And you Rhea? What did you study? Are you working for the company as well?" "I have a double major. And now I'm just helping Ry with the transition. I'm the HR head." "Double major? That's great. What did you study? Public Affairs I assume what with your HR job?" Shaun asked. "No, actually. She did her graduation in both Business Management as well as Performing Arts from NYU. And then went on to get her MBA. We always thought she would be studying her whole life. Thankfully, she agreed to help me after I joined. I won't be able to do anything without her." Ryan said, making Rhea smile as she looked at her twin. "You don't need to butter me, Ry. I'm already working for you." She chuckled. "With me, not for me, remember?" Ryan said, making her smile even more. "Anyway, enough of all that," Anne cut in, "Rhea, why don't you show Shaun around the city tomorrow? He is here for a few days, and you two should make friends."
