Chapter Three Isolde’s Interest Ophelia stared at the mirror while her mind drifted away. She couldn't help but think about the Prince. As he emerged from his magnificent carriage, his blonde hair shined in the waning light, and his blue eyes glimmered like the evening sky. His jawline was chiseled and angular, lending a sense of masculinity to his appearance. He had high cheekbones that added a touch of elegance, while his full lips curved into a confident smile, revealing a hint of charm. The dumb child who had run away from her when they were kids was now a man. But he was still as dumb as he was years ago. Ophelia let out a frustrated sigh. "Your mind seems to be somewhere else, My Lady," Lady Liana said and smiled. She was brushing Ophelia's hair, preparing her for the night. "It seems your conversation with our visitor from earlier is still bothering you," she added. "I can't help it, Nana. He is such a child, and the fact that he looked more muscular and masculine from before doesn't change that," She muttered. Lady Liana chuckled. "Do you remember how you jumped onto your Mother's arm and cried your eyes out all because the Handsome Prince thought you looked like a troll and ran away?" She asked. Ophelia laughed. "Yeah, I do, Nana. Besides, I was only a child then," Ophelia said with a smile on her face. "Mom and Dad had told me that he was a handsome and nice person, and I..." Just then, the smile on Ophelia's face disappeared. Lady Liana noticed and placed a kiss on her forehead. She knew what was bothering her. She helped Ophelia out of her chair and onto her bed. When Ophelia was tucked in, she started singing. She knew Ophelia was still traumatized by her past. The images of her parents being cut down in front of her. "Sing for me, Nana," Ophelia pleaded. Lady Liana smiled as she sat next to Ophelia and smiled. *** Leonidas stepped out of his room. He had to admit, he had an amazing night here at the duchy. He moved through the estate with ease, treating his exile as a mere vacation. Besides, that was what his parents told him. He made sure to talk to and comment on the beauty of every female servant who walked passed him. He was enjoying his stay here. *** Later in the evening, Ophelia went looking for Leonidas. A letter had arrived for him from the castle, and she wanted to give it to him herself. She searched everywhere, but couldn't find him. She was told by his guards that he had gone for a walk and instructed that no one should follow him after having breakfast. She had to find him. She knew he was up to no good. As she walked by the garden, she halted as her eyes landed on him. He was standing far too close to one of the maids. His hand lightly brushed the maid’s arm as he whispered something that made her giggle. Ophelia was furious. "Your Highness!" She called out in anger as she walked towards him, trying to maintain her composure. "My Lady!" The maid cried out and bowed. As she was about to straighten up, the glare on Ophelia's face made her scurry away. Leonidas, who was watching the whole scene, sighed and then smirked. "You know, Lady Ophelia, I almost had her. She would have been the one to finally make my day exciting," He said to her. Ophelia stopped right in front of him. "She is just a child, Your Highness, what does she know about entertaining a royal," She said to him, trying to sound as calm as possible. Leonidas smile left his face. "You are right, Lady Ophelia. Why didn't I think of that," He said and ran his fingers through his hair, trying to look attractive. Ophelia was about to hand him the letter when he pulled her closer, wrapping his left arm around her waist. "Since you are a lot older, I guess you'll know just how to make a royal like me feel good, right?" He teased. Ophelia smirked. "You might not know this, Your Highness, but you were exiled to my Duchy, which means you are under my care. And I don't think the King and Queen would mind if you lose a few limbs, just as long as you learn to behave like the good Prince you are meant to be." *** Ophelia lay on the bed the moment she walked into her chamber. She had succeeded in scaring the prince earlier, so hopefully that was enough to keep him in check. All of a sudden the door opened, and an excited Isolde skipped into the room. She jumped on the bed and lay next to Ophelia. With a smile on her face, she looked at the ceiling and daydreamed. Ophelia was about to ask her what was going on when Isolde's words made her frown. "He looked at me, Ophelia. He looked at me and he smiled," Isolde said. Ophelia didn't even need to ask to know who it was. She turned and looked away, not saying a word to Isolde. "I saw him wandering in the halls, looking all charming, and then he glanced at me and smiled. I was captivated by him instantly, Ophelia," She added. Ophelia rolled her eyes. She didn't know what her best friend saw in the Prince. To her, he was just a jerk. All of a sudden, Isolde spun Ophelia around and helped her to sit up. "Why did you do that, Isolde?" Ophelia questioned with widened eyes. Isolde had a huge smile on her face. “He’s everything they said and more,” She said, her eyes bright with excitement. “I think... I think I could be the one to make him see reason.” Ophelia frowned slightly. "Don't be delusional, you can't do that," She said to her. "But I can, Ophelia. I'll try my best," She said. Ophelia frowned. "And how do you plan on doing that?" She asked. Isolde bit her lips. She didn't know how to say it, but she just had to. "You can help, me talk to him," She said. Ophelia scuffed as she got down from the bed. "Are you insane, Isolde?!" "Yes, I am, Ophelia. I am insanely in love with Prince Leonidas!" She yelled. Ophelia was shocked, but she still refused. Ophelia didn’t want to get involved, especially after what happened earlier, but Isolde was her best friend, and she could see how much she wanted this. She sighed. "Fine. I'll talk to him."
