‘’Hailey!’’ A scream sounded again from Keisha’s mouth, and we all turned our attention to her. I ran to her side and touched the little child, feeling that she was cold and lifeless. Her mother’s eyes met mine. ‘’she suddenly slumped without showing any sign of being weak… ‘’
I placed a hand on her neck to feel her pulse but felt nothing. I put my head on her chest, too, and expected it to beat still, but it had suddenly stopped. ‘’Hailey,’’ I tapped her to wake her, but nothing happened. She just laid there lifeless, her eyes closed and not breathing. ‘’no,’’ I almost screamed out, remembering how the child had run into my arms a moment ago and I couldn’t believe that she was lying on the ground in her mother’s arm, not moving.
