Clara’s POV
The next morning I took the card Alicia gave me and dialed the number inscribed in red below. A male voice answered me from the receiver. “Eagles Nest Services, how may I help you Ma'am?”
“ Uhmmm my Name is Clara, Clara Brooks I need your services. Where is your office located?” I said. “Ma’am it would be easy if we schedule a meeting for you with one of our men and he takes it from there” he replied. “You don't have an office like a meeting place where I can see things for myself?”
I asked.
“That won't be necessary Ma'am it's best if you just go straight to the point.” He answered. Unsure if this was the best decision I continued “alright what am I to do?” “You will meet him at Maybelline Restaurant in town by 5:00pm” came the crisp reply from the receiver. “Okay” I said and ended the call.
I was tempted to pick up my phone again and call them back to tell them I am no more interested. This organisation sounds shadowy. Why don't they have an office, why can't I visit the office? Is this genuine?
Well I reasoned again if I don't try to end the threats in my life. It won't stop magically. Let me try…
I was at Maybelline at exactly 5:00pm. As a business owner I knew the importance of time. So I honour people’s time as well. As I looked up. There he was striding towards me, the most beautiful being I've ever seen in my life.
He had charcoal black hair, a well formed physic, a tall slim frame like he was carved from the gods. He had a pair of seriously attractive dark eyes that was piercing and will always make you run for cover. He was incredibly handsome.
“Good Evening Ma’am” he greeted as he extended his hands to me. I took it and shook him in reply “Evening to you Sir, are you from Eagle’s Nest?” “Yes, I am here to see a certain Ms Clara Brooks”.
I smiled at him and said “here I am” we sat down. “How exactly did it start?” He asked I tried not to get distracted by his looks and aura. I gathered my thoughts together, swallowed hard and began “I went to Fenty Shopping Mall to get some groceries.
Then a man was shot right before my eyes. I don't know the man nor do I know his killer but if I see the killer anywhere I can identify him.” I paused for some breath. “ When it happened the whole area was in a mess and I also ran so hard for my life.
That was when two men in black came after me. A guy I couldn't make out helped me escape and since then I've been on the run. They killed my cousin Cindy. Please Sir, help me. Help me find the killers” I finally concluded. He was looking at me intently and there was this uncomfortable silence about him.
His perfume was masculine and it felt familiar like I had smelt it somewhere before. “Come off it Clara” I said to myself it's just your imagination. I ve never seen this guy from Adam so many things were happening to me and I was practically living in fear.
It's normal for me to hallucinate. I brushed off the thoughts and paid attention to him. “This is what will happen I will investigate the situation and offer you protection as well.” He said calmly. “When are you returning to Boston?” He added “the day after tomorrow” I replied.
“Good he said we meet there” he stood up and went. My eyes never left him. Till he was out of sight. I looked down at my hands and silently wondered. I hope this man does a good job of helping find Cindy’s killers and protecting me from the bad guys.
I slowly stood you and was on my way home. That was when I realized that I had got so carried away that I forgot to ask the bodyguard his name. “Danmit Clara your so shameless I thought to myself with a smile” I have to find a way of looking away and being in control of my thoughts around this disturbing man. Besides he just a stranger. Which is more upsetting.
With a sigh, I pulled at Alicia’s driveway and headed to the house. “Hey girl, how did it go?” She greeted me warmly. “Not bad I replied. He will do” “ I hope he will she said I just want to see you safe and happy.”she added with a sweet smile.
“Okay talking about bodyguards when will you get yourself a permanent bodyguard?” She teased mischievously. “ Oh Alicia can we just drop the subject I…” she cut me off midway. “No buts baby girl you need a man and you know that.”look at you since Peter left your unable to move on it's been five years already.
“You know am so busy with the company I actually don't have the time” I defended. “ “No excuses Clara you need to move on. I know your still hurting by his betrayal but babes it's been five years. Time to move on” she insisted. “Okay, Okay I'll try”. I said I had to give in to end the argument.
Naturally I was the type who never like to argue neither did I like confrontations. I was always dreading the boyfriend topic not because I was still annoyed with Peter but because I honestly had no time to date.
Have a couple of men on my DM but they don't move me. I feel am doing fine. Am okay. The company is good and so am I. I picked up my bag to head to my room and I suddenly heard “if you still insist on being pig headed over men maybe the new bodyguard will change your mind” she said gleefully. “You suck Alicia” I retorted behind my back at her as I entered my room.
