Elias’s POV
I made my way to the cellar of the building i.e., the dungeon, as my men like to call it. As I made my way through the secret door behind one of the walls in the cellar, I see one of my men and someone I have never seen before. The men are bloodied and nearby I see Alec with bloodied hands. Well, he certainly laid into them.
“So,” I growl while pointing to my bloodied subordinate. “Jason, you disappoint me, but I’m not surprised.”
“Boss, he made me do it!” he cried.
I slapped him so hard he fell over from the kneeling position he was in and grabbed him by the scruff.
“You disgust me,” I spat at him and threw him to the floor. I turned to the other man. “Who are you?”
“I’m Nicholai. I work for Cole, although I doubt for much longer.”
“You would be right,” I said before pulling my gun out and shooting him in the head. Well, that’s one weasel out of the way.
“Now, for you, Jason. What will we do with you?” I sneered.
“Please,” he begged. “Please let me go.”
“No.”
For hours me and Alec took turns bludgeoning him, until he had no breath left.
“Shoot him just to make sure he’s dead,” I ordered Alec.
“Yes, Boss.”
I started walking back towards the kitchen to the point where I couldn’t hear the gun shot. Soundproof walls come in handy sometimes. I must show mercy, but to the right people. I don’t believe in being pointlessly merciless.
I made my way to my office and dialled for Cole Novikov. I am not looking forward to this conversation. He’s probably going to be pissed I killed his man instead of letting him wreak havoc on him. If I’m honest though, the man got off lucky. Cole Novikov is the pointlessly merciless type. I’ve heard he takes days to kill someone when he feels like torturing them.
After three rings he answers, “You better have good news for me De Luca,” he warned.
“I have good and bad. Good news is that I caught the guys responsible. One of them was mine, but the other i.e., the bad news, was yours.”
“I hope you left my man for me.”
“Sorry. He was working with one of my men, so I shot him for you. At least you now know who shot your brother.”
He grunted. “You should have left my man for me but at least they got what was coming to them. Pleasure as always De Luca.”
“You too, Cole.”
I hung up swiftly not hoping for a long conversation. Cole Novikov is known to keep you talking for hours on end about absolute shite. I don’t have time for that, nor the patience.
I finished up some work and walked into the kitchen to find Lina and Naomi talking over a cup of coffee. They haven’t noticed me arrive yet and I just stand in the doorway pondering this moment. Lina has been like a mother to me from my parents died. I’m glad she likes Naomi. I love how well they get on. I wish my parents could have met her. They would have loved her. Feisty and yet kind, much like my mother. She never took s**t from anyone, including my father. I witnessed long held arguments over silly things, like leaving the toilet seat up, between my mother and father due to their mutual stubbornness, but they loved each other completely. Their love outweighed any obstacle that they faced until the end. I hope to one day have a love like theirs.
“Hello, ladies,” I state, making both jump and Naomi spill coffee on the table. I couldn’t help but smile at her clumsiness.
“Little warning next time please?” said Lina.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to scare the two of you,” I laughed.
“You made me spill my coffee,” Naomi laughed. Before long, all three of us were in stitches.
Once we stopped laughing, instead of grabbing a cloth and cleaning up the coffee, Naomi licked it off the table. Both me and Lina gasped, and she looked up.
“What?” She said blasely. “The counter was clean apart from the coffee, and quite frankly, that would’ve been a waste of coffee.”
Me and Lina just looked at each other again and let out a long laugh, and then we were all laughing again.
“Wow,” Lina breathes. “I haven’t laughed like that in a long time.”
“Me neither,” both me and Naomi chime in.
My stomach lets out an almighty growl, ruining the moment.
“Have you eaten anything today?” Lina asks me.
I try to think, but I haven’t. “No.”
“I’ll make us all something now,” she says happily. “Steak, chips and fried mushrooms?”
“YES!” me and Naomi shout, maybe a little too loudly. “My favourite!”
“Wow, you two are in sync today,” Lina laughed.
“I didn’t know you liked steak, chips and fried mushrooms,” I say to Naomi.
“We haven’t spoken about food, but I don’t just like it, I love it!” she says enthusiastically.
We continued having light conversation and eating our food. Once we were all finished Naomi went to the kitchen with Lina to help with the dishes as I finished off the beer I was drinking. It feels like we have a small family coming along here. Ignoring the fact that I’m a Mob Boss and have people trying to kill me and take over my territory every day.
Suddenly I heard a loud bang coming from the front door. I ran to find out what was going on when I came across Someone I haven’t seen in a long time. Vincent Giordano. I haven’t seen him since I left Italy. As far as I knew he had taken over all the rival Mobs in Italy, but what was he doing here?
“Vincent? What are you doing here?”
He gave me an eery smile, “I’m just here to collect what you owe me.”
“Exactly what would that be?”
“You promised to marry my sister 7 years ago after I helped you gain favour with the paramilitaries in this country. I’m here to get payback for her after you left her at the altar.”
Shit. I hadn’t told anyone but Lina about Andrea Giordano. I hoped that they had forgotten about it since it had been so long. I suppose I was devastatingly wrong.
“What have you done to my man that was at the front door?” I enquired, realising that Eric was out front tonight.
“He’s just knocked out. I would be surprised if he isn’t in a coma now after how hard I hit him.” There goes that eery smile again.
Suddenly, Naomi bursts though the kitchen door in a panic. Then I realise why. The is a man behind her holding a gun towards her head behind her. She runs into my arms, and I hug her to me.
“Well, well, Luca. Who’s this beauty?”
“She is none of your business Vincent. Please don’t drag her into this.”
“Hmmm….” He appeared to think about what I said. “Nope. Give her to me and I will let everything go.”
“What? Why?”
“So now you’ll know what it feels like to be heartbroken.”
The anger rose in my chest like a forest fire, and I lashed out, only to be caught by one of his men. The man banged my head against the door frame to the living room that was beside us and then everything went black.
