With that, feeling as though something unsaid between Mr and Mrs Crawford meant a lot more than they had ventured to tell, Olive made her way to the bus-stop, calling only at the bakery for a loaf.
On Saturday morning Olive set off to the village shop to purchase the things that she needed to cook a sumptuous feast for her sister and brother-in-law.
